The Porsche engine is both more interesting and exotic mechanically (especially the 2.5 S with the variable vane turbo) and revvier and nicer to drive. I know I'm in a minority but of the two I think it sounds better too. And you can have it with a manual. So in powertrain Porsche nails it when you consider all these factors. As a package and an experience, however, the Alpine makes a much stronger case, the more so with that heritage and the looks. Cheers! DT

I was thinking the same. But anecdotally I'm hearing a number are going to people with serious supercar fleets to sit alongside proper exotica. Not sure they'd be buying Caymans to the same ends so there's clearly 'something' about the Alpine offering they like.

Dan Trent Iam gonna buy me an Alpine next year. The Cayman is in the same range (58.000) as the Alpine but only if you don't want any extras in the Car.Take 3 or 4 options in the Porsche and you get to 65+ really easy. And the Mx5 is a nice Car i have to admit that but i would not buy one(well its personal preference).

with same options that this alpine, a cayman 718 = 70.000 not 58.000 ! and the alpine's hp/kg ratio is better ! more over, among porsche owners u look like a poor one with a cayman so it's badge... and lotus for the same price u get none equipments not even a radio and need to buy another car for daily use in fact light is right, it means more fun and much less expensive when it comes to gas tyres etc

Try the car and you will understand the business case. It's pure pleasure and joy even at low speed.
