My boy had urine tests, but they said it was only for bacterial infection. My Vet told me his situation was inoperable once we knew. The infection first appeared in July last year, 2022 as a urinaryinfection. I lost him last Monday, 13th May 2023, so the infection came back, the tumour had grown to block the urethra and a procedure was done for a biopsy and to relieve the bladder. I guess my vet knew what was happening. I mentioned Milo's plight in comments on you previous video. Once again I know all about it now. 😔 Ps in Australia

My 14 yr old spayed female German Pinscher was just diagnosed with TCC based on ultrasound and then this BRAF Mutation Urine Test. Thank-your for this explaination. Recommend two people for this free catch. one holding leash and keeping dog entertained and another sneaking a low bowl or french fry tray under the dog. Waiting for oncology consult next. Thank-you so much for your videos explaining this cancer and diagnosis process....

Hello, Dr. Sue, this is such a great channel that I wish I knew about sooner. My dog has had urinary issues since January, my vet would test his urine on-site and conclude it was just an infection and keep giving him antibiotics. They finally sent me to a specialist last week and the ultrasound revealed that he had TCC and not in an area that could be completely surgically removed. I wish my vet had recommended this new kind of test for my boy. He is scheduled to have surgery this week to hopefully remove a good amount of the tumor and we will try treatments after that. I love my boy so much, I hope the surgery reduces his pain. I read on Pet MD that bladder removal and replacement with a synthetic bladder is possible, but I am having a hard time finding current information on this when searching on google. Do you know much about this and what other treatments would you recommend besides just chemo (or radiation, which the vet did not mention as an option)? Vemurafenib, EGR-Directed toxins, Piroxicam, or holistic mushroom extracts are the leading things I have read about.

I doubt she will want to answer this question. I can tell you the procedure cost me $397 for my female at specialty clinic in the pacific northwest (Washington Sate). This is a lot cheaper than previous endoscopy with biopsies for a different cancer two years ago in the same dog...over $10,000 for tumor removal and 6 biopsies of the intestinal tract. So I can see why Dr Sue is so excited about this BRAF....

@@jenniferredfern3930 Thanks Jennifer for your kind reply. I actually found the test with Antech labs and they helped me to send the sample from my patient to one of their US labs. Unfortunately the result was positive.

Is the Braf test common knowledge by vets today? My dog was diagnosed as probable TCC and referred to a specialist who would then biopsy it, confirm it's cancer then send us to an oncologist. (waiting for our appointment) My dog is very stressed out at the vet - even pulled a ligament in his leg when the were trying to do the ultrasound - a urine test sounds way less invasive than a biopsy.

It is a commonly known test by veterinarians nowadays . Ask your vet about it. They may have to send the urine analysis to New York where they conduct the test. Certainly less invasive than a biopsy. Good luck
