Definitely stand up for yourself and your fur babies. I am the squeaky wheel when the occasion arises. I always try to flatter and coerce before resorting to more extreme verbal measures but I definitely don’t take no for an answer. I have had hundreds of interactions with customer service reps/managers and physicians/vets, and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been told “no.” It pays to educate yourself and to, respectfully, stand up for yourself

I am the exact same way. I say oh ok…that’s fine…I understand…thank you so much for your time……😑 until the point you realize you have to say what you want.

I hate putting a thumbs-up on this video because of the news you had to share, but I thank you so much for telling us what's going on and letting us know why things are the way they are in the veterinary world. I had a wonderful holistic vet only 12 or so miles from me, and she closed her practice last fall, somewhat unexpectedly, due to family health issues and the climate of complaint we seem to have developed in which people blame the vet for everything that happens to an animal. It's not the vet's fault that the animal is sick or beyond help, especially if you wait for years before you bring it in. Even during the covid crisis, she was as helpful as it was possible to be. I truly miss her advice and knowing that she trusted me to tell her what was happening so that she could do a better diagnosis. I truly value that in any doctor, but most especially at vets because our animals cannot speak for themselves. Brava, Dr. Judy for representing all of us and our furry friends.

Thank you Dr Morgan! My girl Yuzu was able to come off her dry eye meds as well, following your diet recommendations! She was told meds throughout her whole life! Surprisingly, this diet also got rid of corneal dystrophy in both my dogs! They had a pretty decent sized lipid deposit on both eyes and they both have clear eyes now! Amazing what diet can do ❤ I am so sorry to hear about Georgie boy 💔

We rescued a schnauzer mix last year and this July I thought she had a UTI. She was given antibiotics and she continued to dribble. I took her back and her vet did an ultrasound (no sedation) and she had a bladder mass. Turned out she had TCC ( also did the braf test) it is now Oct 12th and we had to have her euthanized 2 weeks ago. She was peeing pure blood and wouldn’t eat or drink. We had her on Deramaxx and started palladia. We are so heartbroken. She must have had it when we got her but no one knew. It’s crazy you couldn’t get a simple ultrasound without them wanting to sedate him. Our vet did several (no charge on 2) and chest x-rays in the office. Thank goodness we had access to that. We miss her so much. I hope your baby is still doing well.

I am so happy I live in Mexico, my vet hospital does not argue with me knowing my education and experience from over the years with them, they trust my input and if I want them to do something even though they believe otherwise, they WILL do whatever I ask. And they NEVER sedate my dogs, or any dog that I know of to perform the procedure you asked them to do, that is just unheard of. And I would NEVER allow it either Dr Judy.

What a frustrating situation but don't waste your time and energy being angry at a vet like that. You don't want to do business with a vet that won't talk to you anyway. What a jerk. I'm like you in that distance wouldn't be a factor when it comes to the health of a pet. George won the lottery when you became his parent.

Unbelievable I’m at the place so sorry my cat has the same problem she had 7 years of peeing problems and many appointments finally got an ultrasound after four years of off and on bladder, inflammation or infections five different doctors and no one ever wanted to check only change the diet for the prescription diet that was it. Never changed her food only raw and good quality, canned food Thank you for telling me your story. I will fight for my cat.

This has been my frustration with the vets here, too! They won't listen when I know something is wrong. I'm so glad you found someone to listen to you. Since you are a Dr., how do you recommend finding a new vet? I don't want to sound like a nut, so what are things I should not say? 😊 BTW I live in rural Indiana so alot of country vets that don't follow holistic values either.

I’m so sorry Dr Judy that you had to go through that with the ultrasonographer. It is so frustrating when these professionals are unwilling to listen to the pet parent and work with them. I had a similar issue when my dog broke his tooth and we had to go to a veterinary dental specialist about an hour and a half away. They were the only ones to be able to get us in quickly because the other dentists had waitlists weeks out and I didn’t want my dog suffering that long. Anyways, I explained everything but as soon as I chose to do the extraction rather than crown since the crown I felt was too risky as they had to do another procedure to lower the gum line. This made me feel that there was a money component since the extraction was half the cost of the crown. They basically made me feel like I wasn’t doing what was best for my pet. Also on the day of the surgery I told them he has a sensitivity to opioids and to please not use opioids in their sedative and anesthetic protocol. They knew I was an ex vet tech and knew I knew what I was talking about but ignored me and said they have the best anesthetic protocol and they were the specialists 🙄 When I picked up my dog he looked so drugged and couldn’t keep his body temp up. Honestly I thought he wasn’t safe to take home but they were closing so I wanted him with me. I looked at the list of drugs they gave him which included 4 different opioids including butorphenol which he reacted to in the past and I had told them that. I was so mad! They sent him home on codeine which again he couldn’t tolerate. I couldn’t even talk to the actual vet on go home instructions and the tech was so dismissive of my concerns. Then to top it off about 12 hours later, he started having straight bloody diarrhea and vomiting and it was so bad he was leaking diarrhea. I immediately took him to the emergency vet who said he had hemorrhagic gastroenteritis secondary to anesthesia. Butorphenol normally caused diarrhea and it is why I told them he was sensitive. Having morphine, fentanyl, butorphenol and codeine altogether tipped him over the edge. I called the specialist the next day to request the records which they were unwilling to give until I showed up and demanded them. Also found out my dog did not breathe well under anesthesia and needed mechanical ventilation the entire procedure. This was by far the worst experience I’ve had with a vet second only to the other vet that misdiagnosed my previous cat with lymphoma and said I needed to put her down. I refused and got a second opinion which found she was constipated and just needed an enema. Having a veterinary background helps a bit, but we still hit these frustrating roadblocks with the professionals that insist they are always right. I truly feel sorry for the average pet owner that has even more difficulty getting leverage and their voices heard when it comes to their pets care😔

I really feel like I need to have my dog’s teeth cleaned because he’s past due. However it freaks me out to put him under anesthesia because he was recently diagnosed with mitral valve disease (he has arrhythmia & murmur). I think he’s stage B2 iirc. My vet said it was ok to go ahead and do the cleaning but is it too risky? I know how bad it is for the heart to have plaque building up in the mouth 😬
@onlyinparadise4613
@onlyinparadise4613 Год назад
Go with a board certified vet dentist for your dog’s anesthetic dental cleaning. It’s a lot more expensive but you’re paying for piece of mind. Don’t use a regular vet for your dog’s dental cleaning! They are not trained to handle dogs with heart disease under anesthesia. My dog is in your dog’s situation and he had two yearly dental cleanings. He did great! Clean teeth 🦷. If you have any concerns, I’m here to help.
