Thanks for the clearify ! It's really important to know the difference, especially in Germany. Here are only two handed knives allowed, without a "solid standing" blade. In general, no flipper, thump point, holes, etc. nothing only this nailcurve.

Thank you Mr. Andersen and Knife Center stuff. People used friction folders for centuries in every day real tasks. A slip joint, if used with respect, can serve well. I like the ZT and the Lionsteel, very nice the stop pin on the Artisan Cutlery knife. If You are interested, take a look on the Pattada, friction folder made in the Sardegna island, Italy. In the past people of this island used this knife for self defense without any lock, or guard!.

I have a Boker Jens Anso Cox Slim in N690BO w/Micarta scales, a gift from my favorite cousin in Germany - very stiff walk-n-talk on that one! But the knife that has had the most use out of anything I own is a Spyderco Kiwi 3 - the tiny all-stainless one. I can get away with carrying it into the most uptight locations (such as through metal detectors at the gov't office where I did IT work) and it's all you need for 95% of your day if you aren't being outdoorsy, or doing manual labor. Sure wish Spyderco would bring out an updated version as my blade is getting a bit thin! I had to laugh as I saw a NIB one being listed at $129... Out of what was shown I like the Boker Kansei Matsuno Wasabi, the Artisan Archeo, and the LionSteel Thrill.

You mentioned that the finger choil gives you added safety and that you "would feel very confident putting it into true heavy work". Personally I don't agree with this. I'm in the UK and can't carry locking knives, so I started out buying slip joints and made sure to get ones with finger choils as intuitively they seemed safer. But really they do almost nothing to keep the blade closed. There's very little leverage due to how close the finger choil is to the rotation point. Paradoxically, I actually feel safer and more "locked in" with friction folders like the Svord Peasant Mini, rather than slip joint knives. The reason being that friction folders like this have an extended tang that you can hold on with your entire hand, and this gives much greater leverage on the blade than a finger choil does. Holding the Svord Peasant Mini in my hand with pressure on the tang, it feels like a locking blade - I could possibly even baton with it! But a regular slip joint with a finger choil, no matter how hard I press on the choil, it doesn't take much force to close the blade down on my hand (and pinch that finger in the process)...

Half of my knives are slip joints. I EDC every one of them, including a Scout Knife made in the 50’s. I’ve never once cut myself on any of them. Even without a half-stop, all of my slip joints have been plenty safe and secure. I think- though I could be wrong- that slip joints get a reputation for being unsafe largely because they are everyone’s first knife as a kid. Watch a kid do literally anything. They are utterly spastic, no matter how simple the task is. You and I were just as spastic when we were kids. Now that we’re adults, we have the mental and bodily coordination necessary to operate a slip joint successfully. I have even used the back end of my blade as a mild wedge/pry bar of sorts without any issues. I was doing janitorial work for my church, and any time I replaced toilet paper I’d have to pry the wetted-together end of the rolls loose because it was done very unprofessionally and could be a pain to get the roll started. Even if I put quite a bit of pressure on the back of the blade (I used the spine in order to avoid slicing up the TP) I never came close to cutting myself.

@simonh6371
@simonh6371 Год назад
Same here, I have the S90V version and put a thumb stud, agree it's slow opening though so I prefer to carry my Spyderco Urban at work when I need to open packaging etc quickly. But I'd rate the Wasp over the Bokerplus XS, even the 14C28N version if you want something at a comparable price. Also it's made in Europe (just!) which is better than made in China. And all 3 blade steel choices - 12C27, 14C28N and S90V - are better than the Bokerplus's 440C.

Failing to include the Bestech Junzi seems a shocking oversight. The Junzi is surely one of the best modern oho slipjoints in production. Cheaper than the Hinderer and the Liong Mah, more fancy than the Boker XS and UKPK, stronger spring and better grind than the Zipslip; safer than the ZT. The spartan is ridiculous and the Terminus has terrible ergos up by the index finger. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work. Kind regards from the land of the slipping edc - the UK😒😎

I have got the Spydie UKPK with custom Micarta scales but switched to the Kizer titanium Zipslip. Reson was because the ziptie mod (cheap emmerson wave diy) broke the first set of scales on my Spyderco after like the 10th time pulling it out my pocket. As the Kizer is all Titanium, this cant happen again. The reason I have to go for a slipjoint is, that in Germany any folding knife is not allowed when it locks and can be opened one handed (applies to pretty much any folder). Thus you need a non locking blade if you want to go with a folder. Well.... until i saw this video I was sure the Kizer will be my edc for the next 10 years at least.... but this archeo is a must have :P

@iwilleaturbabies 3 года назад
@@connorhastings596 Not really, the side to side play is improved, but the up and down isn't. It's an issue with the detent I believe. You just need to shape the pivot area of the knife blade, to match the area of the spring that is touching the blade pivot area. If they match, then you can move the blade without disrupting the spring. They add the little notch at the very tip of the spring to indent in, and hold the blade in place. That’s how Kizer and Mikey v were able to cheat out the parent on this “new innovation”, as you obviously and clearly pointed it out before that spyderco did do it years prior. Misleading patent
