Great video Kate, toileting is something that isn't talked about enough and should be part of the conversation people are having even when selecting a a camp site

Absolutely mate. Hard to understand how so many people are trashing these beautiful places.

We use a brand called Who Gives a Crap in our biogas toilet because it breaks down almost instantly in water. We use a portable bidet bottle more often than paper, just plain water. I have a 250ml portable bottle bidet, they do a good job.

So great to hear. Yes I see a few videos on them. They look great. I should try it some day. Thanks.

I'm drawn to shitty puns, but I think a dry descriptive 'how to...' (as is) works, especially as you are planning a series of these. Also I like that 'how to go to the toilet' comes right after 'how to make coffee'.

hahaha maybe the coffee should come before the poo vid. I'm so keen for a shitty pun, was thinking dont be crap...or something hahahah

I read an article recently that suggested using dog poop bags to carry out used tp. You could then pop that bag into your resealable trash bag or use the leftover bag from a rehydrated meal to double bag. I think the best way is to always pack it out.

Yes great idea. I agree best to take it home when you can. Happy hiking

TP for portable toilets is designed to break down quickly. Camping stores sell it and we only use this for its breaking down properties.

Hey Kate. Saw some pocket tissues in a shop recently called The Cheeky Panda. Made from Bamboo, it says they are plastic free, free from tissue dust, fragrance, pesticide, chlorine bleach and B.P.A. Scary to think that others may contain all of that, and who would have thought that tissues contained plastic! Might be a good one to try in an experiment. Hope you are going well. Cheers :)

Great video, @KateGrarock ! I was so disappointed to see so much toilet paper at every point I thought I could duck into the bush and pee on the Portuguese Caminho. If every woman used a pee rag like the Kula Cloth, that would make a huge difference, because it's not just about number 2s! I'll now look at some of the alternatives suggested here for those. 😊

Awesome idea for a series. What a great experiment, with some quite, and kinda scary results. I will definitely be taking Eco/Quick Breakdown Toilet paper with me in the future. I would certainly consider "packing it out" if I hike in a sensitive area. Cheers

hey Kate nice one I didnt realise toilet paper takes that long to break down wow . Here is a good tip not many people know and I use and that is to get a gumleaf or similar and bend it from tip to tip and use it like a poop scoop. works quite well , so instead of wiping you kind of scrape it . I hope that makes sense . give it a go . you might want to grab a few leaves to be sure . go tha gumleaf poop scoop
@KateGrarock

I really like your idea of using smooth stones. I reckon I’ll give some smooth river pebbles a go next time I see them. But I’ll pack a few squares TP just in case. Great video and important topic. 😊
@KateGrarock
@KateGrarock 5 месяцев назад
Thanks mate. All the best. Even if you start with the stone and then do a little safety wipe with toilet paper. Would be nicer packing out rather clean paper. Happy hiking

I think also there is a "movement" towards WAG bags, though I'm not sure how environmentally "friendly" they are considering they are a lot of plastic.

This made me giggle. But yeah I hear a lot about it. Great to see the evolution of how we hike and to keep learning better ways to leave no trace. But yes must be a balance.

Actually Kate, I have seen a water bottle Bidet on some American hiking channels. Haven't tried it myself. Only thing is, it uses water supplies.

it would be nice if councils installed more drop toilets on the big trails for what I suspect, is an ever increasing number of people getting into hiking.

Who gives a crap recycled toilet paper breaks down really well. Those tissues can not even bexflushed because they do not break down. Title? "Have a shit/crap in the woods/bush". There is nothing worse than going on a lovely walk and someone has crapped on the surface and dumped half a roll of toilet paper strewn on top. As a passer by do we just leave it there? That is a question I have.
@KateGrarock
@KateGrarock 5 месяцев назад
Couldn’t agree more about the paper issue. It’s hard hey I’m not in a rush to go poking around someone’s toilet waste but we need to find a solution. Oh yes so good re who gives a crap cheers. Happy hiking and thanks for your support

THATS A GREAT POINT - so just chuck some soil over?@@SamClarkPhoto
@SamClarkPhoto
@SamClarkPhoto 5 месяцев назад
@@KateGrarock I usually chuck some sticks, logs, rocks etc over it. Whatever I can find. Its not just about whether it breaks down but also potentially spreading disease to wildlife etc. Rubbish (dependent - its not gross, heavy, I have the capacity etc), I will take out with me.
