@@AubryMadgin It's possible to buy an extra wheel support bracket ( second down in the options list here dofreality.com/order/ ) which makes it sturdy enough for DD wheels.
Honestly, thank you for the great Review, as always. Cant imagine how many sim racers made their purchasing decision because of you. Keep it up - we appreciate the heck out of you.
Vr is more immersive for sure. Hot natured people such as myself have the ac on full blast and a fan on and im still hot with the headset on. I use monitors for long practice then switch to VR for race time.. Just to give you an example of why some still use triples.
Been running my H3 for about 2 weeks now. This thing truly is awesome once properly tuned. Just added a couple bass shakers to it yesterday which really ups the immersion. Combined with VR, I'm at a level of realism I never expected to reach. Couldn't be happier. The profile is thin though, so expect flex, especially at the wheel deck. I added a few supports to it and it's now handling my 12nm DD just fine. I've actually seen a guy mount a full 8020 rig on top of it too! That said, I'd certainly recommend buying if considering.
@@macarollo I seriously considered the H6. My thought was to just go all in as I really wanted the full 6 dof, plus it's like a $600 savings over upgrading later. But after talking with some existing owners, most feel 6 dof was ideal for flight, while 3 dof for driving. Based on those discussions, and my wallet, I went H3. Now that I have it, I don't regret my decision at all. I don't know how different the 6 feels compared to this, and I know you lose out on true surge/heave, but I don't think it's something I'll ever worry about upgrading to anymore. Inside VR this is super impressive, and I'm gonna agree with others that the rear traction loss of the H3 might be the ideal setup for driving. If you don't have the cash for the 6, I wouldn't even hesitate to go for the 3. It's beyond good. ;) Feel free to ask any other questions. I have a few short videos of it up on my sim channel too.
@@paulriccobene Thanks for the info. I have been considering H3, but I was thinking why not keep saving to get the H6 as it looks even better, but it's great to hear your perspective. I use Rift S now with a stationary rig, along with bass shakers. I used to think a motion rig was just out of the question, until I saw the great value of the H3
@@macarollo I totally get your thinking. IMO, if you can swing the H3 now, I'd go for it. Hear the Rift S is nice. Need to upgrade my O+, just waiting on newest Pimax reviews.
this almost makes me cry. I got a g29 just for fun a year ago... and now iam freakin addicted. I cant even imagine how something like this feels like. Really thinking about getting one the next couple of years, that would be soooo sick.
For me, I had to spred the payments of this H3 rig over a few months and paid with PayPal and being shipped in 3-month period being over $1,850.00 dollars. I now have it on order and will be receiving my unit within 3 weeks they said after paying for it. [DOF reality could not ship the product until fully paid for, but that was okay for me!]
Funny, yesterday I was just watching an old video review of SRG (Accuforce wheel vs Bodnar vs OSW), and I have to say, the hairstyle has evolved for the better. Those hair tips are now looking so healthy! Thank you for provide the capillary update!
Had one of these since September last year absolutely worth the price. Immersive as being in a real car. Once u get it dialled in vr its a thrill ride of all rides.
@@user-by2kq6qr3z u can feel as much acceleration as u want. The angle in which the rig moves can be far more than u would feel in a car. The only thing u won't feel is g forces. First time I tried a car like a ferrari or other car I was stunned in the way I thought I was goin to lose control of the car especially in vr ur mind can be easier to trick in vr as ur senses are heightened. I'd say for single monitor the motion isn't as immersive but not tried triples screen. Honestly for how much the h3 costs its not a toy even tho it's in the lowest bracket of motion technology well worth £2000 all day long.
9:55 the lockwasher is supposed to go under the nut, not under the cap screw. That is the purpose of a lock washer - to keep tension on the nut to prevent it from working itself loose. I also have doubts about placing the lock washer against the rotating knurl of the rod , that should have been a regular washer , if using anything at all. - but whatever - still a great review
I see a mini Quad! haha. dude I am currently researching this stuff hard.. been wanting a pro style sim rig for decades .. I think the time is now to pull the trigger
@@mariostone5501 it works fine but "ve realized rhat 3DOF systems don" t have the highest priority on a Sim rigs. Wheel and pedals are more important, also VR headset come first... then all the motion and tactile systems can improve the Sim racing experience. Has the H3 pro with bigger motors for 6 months now and it's applsoultly awesome. Software constantly updated with new support rally games in VR is ridiculous.
So jealous, I purchased a wheel pedels and VR for racing sims, and I love it, grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst circuit racing, but two corners and a hump in on a rally stage, an my brains dazed and confused, shame cus I love rally. i imagine that a set up like yours would cure the nausea too. If so I'm in.
Interesting about those bigger motors. Did you take a look at them? What is the more powerful motors setup? Stip 1500rpm, 24v? And do you keep the same size and ratio (25) gears as in this video?
@@christopherpope1800 rally games genuinely make you want to chuck lol which I am guessing is like the real thing. The rig really shines in GT3 and sports cars weres there's some movement in suspension plus the kerbs stuff
Fantastic review. If I could offer a suggestion, maybe try some drifts or dirt tracks so we can see the traction loss work in low traction scenarios. I think the wreck got me what I need though
fondoo - what pedal set you want to use ... for me the the pedal and wheelbase mount look very fragile and I assume a lot of flex in 65kg brakeforce on HE pros. I would love to read your opinion before I order 2 sets of H3 this summer
@@RalfBlees my fanatec DD2 and v3 inverted pedals are coming on monday. i know for sure I need to stiffen the wheelbase mount but i think im good with the peddals. follow my channel, i will have some content
I highly recommend to replace the original wheelstand as it is much too weak and has too much flex, especially with a heavy wheelbase. It has also very limited for positioning the base to your demands. I replaced mine with a set of aluminium profiles (around 80$)... much more sturdy and infinite possibilities for setting the right height/angle etc. Also, the pedal plate has flex as well (@scott: certainly NOT solid as a rock, my previous RS1 seat was much more robust). That could be solved with attaching wires between the plate-wheelstand-seatframe.
@@iseeq72 Now I would love to see how you have done that! Have you gone with 4 arms instead of the original 2? I would assume that would have to be substantially heavier than the original, even though aluminum itself is so much lighter...?
Thanks for the great review, I noticed that in the DOF Reality site that the upgrade and the Consumer and Professional H3 models don’t show the urethane wheels as part of the yaw mechanism. It would be a shame if this feature is not available, it would seem that the wheels in combination with th dampers offered would be key factors to smoothing the overall motion of the unit.
mate i just love your reviews, for me. yours are the pinnacle of reviews and I purchase on your reccomendations, money is a thing for me but this is a game changer for me, thanks for your time effort and expertise, kind regards jay. contacting the manufactures for a set up . @@jarrodkerr6500 AWESOME!!!!! I'm getting ready to pull the trigger. Any desire to upgrade to the H6? I haven't seen too many comparisons between the two. I'm wondering if you LOSE anything going to the H6.. like if some aspect of it isn't as good as the H3.
@@stevetb7777 Do it pull the trigger!!! Lol as for my intentions to upgrade no not really it dos every thing I really want it too maybe some time in the late late late future but I wouldn't really care that much if i didn't i think that the H6 is more for getting the fill of the G force than the H3 because it can move in every direction with a floating seat but i tend to find the G force feature more distracting so i turn it down i prefer to get a fill of what the car is doing in the suspension rather than G force but i mostly focus on circuit racing so it may be different for other people but i would say if your picking between the h2 and the h3 definitely go for the H3 if you can :)
33:10 holy moly lol the left wheel caught some air there I might really go for the H3 one of these days H6 is tempting, but seems to me that h3 should be good enough for racing and most likely more durable too. Much less stuff to go wrong, at least
As always, excellent content Barry! I recently purchased the DOF Reality H3 following your review. It was quite a process to put it together. I had to adjust a total of 7 mismatched holes in many of the steel beams and sections with a file. They were off up to 5mm, and thus impossible to be assembled without adjustments. Even at this low price point I was quite disappointed. It’s done now, and I’m looking forward to trying it out when my OMP Champ seat finally arrives.
Hi Wolfram, Andrey asked how th DOF Reality H3 has worked out for you over the time you have had it. Would love to know if you have any regrets in the purchase? Right now if you still have it you are around the 3 year mark?
Another great review, thanks Barry! Considering the price point, I'm really curious how does it compare to SFX-100. Have you considered reviewing that platform? I'm sure some nearby fellow sim racer fan with SFX-100 would offer a test drive in their rig, to avoid you having to source all the materials and build one yourself for a review... 😊
FireBullet better still, imagine the SRG SFX100 build bring done as only Barry knows how. Watching him build the SFX would be like an episode of “wheeler dealers”
Wondering if rig is strong enough for DD wheel base and Heusinkveld pedals? The pricing for this motion rig is just perfect but the structure looks like static rigs can’t hold the strength of DD wheel base.
You are so easy to listen to and also make everything very clear to those of us that are just starting to look at these simulators. I have a question, is it feasible do you think to home build one the of these units, a friend has a metalwork shop and said that there is nothing very complicated in the frame. ?? The only thing is the software implementation and that is where I think the issue for me could arise. Am currently searching round for some plans and also a BOM as a starting point. Thanks for your videos they really are brilliant and its so nice to have a video from across the pond where the presenter isn't shouting and saying awesome every 10secs ;-) Keep up the excellent work
Hey Kent. Congratulations on your sim rig! Have you finished building it? If so, how do you like it so far? I'm looking at possibly getting one of these myself.
@@atrain132 Not yet. I'm planning on making some modifications to beef up some parts, so that slowed me down. Check out sim_rig on Instagram for the modifications he made to his P3. He has an honest assessment of his P3.
Those polyurethane wheels need a retaining top rail. Did you see that lift when Barry rolled it!? Product would not be long for this life with that level of uncontrolled motion.
So? If you can afford this thing = You can afford a few little poly wheels, having a mechanic weld in new rails with warranty for life etc would cost more than a lifetime supply anyway ROFL
Great video as always, Barry. Also, I noticed what looks like an Ender 3 in the background. It would be really interesting to see what sort of things you have printed that relate to sim racing. I'm sure you have plenty of things lined up to review but it might be an idea if you ever do run out of new sim toys to review in the SRG.
Seems like a nice compact solution although it would be hard for me to go for such a fixed rig from a 80/20 profile rig that's very flexible and sturdy. One thing that rig still misses is a GS5 seat for the longer duration G-Force effects. A good sim racing setup is basically like having a good 4-way speaker with proper separation of frequency ranged effects... Tactile = Tweeter FFB Wheel = High-Mids Motion rig = Low-Mids G-Force Seat = Subwoofer
for me I am looking at either a 15K next level Sim + wheels/pedals, frame, seat, adding it closer to 17K (free shipping) or a DOF H3 for 3.5K including shipping to Australia + wheels/pedals, frame, seat, adding it closer to 6K (in AUD). So, for a person who will play for about an hour or 2 a day the DOF H3 is the perfect choice simply on price. I am not paying 17K for a sim It is over the top for something that probably has a 400% mark up on it, that probably is not that much better.
Around 38:55 look at the it in slow motion and see the upper potion hop off the lower yaw track on left wheel! I wonder if you could flip this thing. 😂
Motion sickness went away for me after doing VR over time. When the quest went to 90Hz I never got sick again even in flight sims (worst for me) ...my h3 is on order.
Did you have to make new threads for those holes that got powder-coating on them? We see you using the tap by hand during the video, but then there's a clip where you're using a cordless drill and what looks like the same kind of tap. I don't know anything about machining so I can't figure out what you do with a drill and a tap. I thought you had to do it all pretty slowly. I love your videos. I don't know what kind of preamp or filter you're using, but the fuzzy sound is great.
Super review... would of liked to see you try the rig out of the box compared to after you added dampers to see your thoughts ?? Can you advise what the difference was with compared to without dampers .. Super Many thanks
Yes, would love to due my style of review on the SFX100. It would require a lot of time for me to do a project like that. As it will require a rather extensive video production effort. And right now, and for a least the next few months, I will be busy with review material I have already commited to. So, I have to wait until the timing is right.
Sim Racing Garage thanks for replying Barry. Only you can do justice to such a build. I’d be happy with weekly instalments But we all fully understand your commitment to other projects. But please put this high on your list.
@@simracinggarage3026 just talk less in your reviews and you will have time to do more. Your reviews are way too long and you talk too much about the things that don't matter. Naming bolts, no speed up when you assemble something - total waste of time
Barry are your arms that strong/defined from working out with weights? or is that just a side effect from using a direct drive wheel? i feel like the power of the strong wheels would really strengthen your arms over time. is that how you got so much definition in your arms? If your wheel is responsible for it, that is just an awesome bonus to getting a DD wheel that i never considered. Edit: sorry for asking such a basic and pointless question after you put so much time into this video; and that's all i can say for it at the end, i really really loved the content and i watch every minute of it. but that was just something i noticed, and it seems every youtuber with a DD has that muscular Definition in their arms, even jimmy broadbent. so I'm curious if those wheels are doing that, my CSW 2.5 just doesn't have enough strength to do that. it has increased my grip strength tremendously but that's about it. My hands used to ache on long sessions and now they do not. I have the money for a DD wheel but my chassis isn't strong enough for one so every little thing matters right now in making my decision to buy a DD and new chassis. I would be purchasing equipment that has the SRG approval only, and generally speaking you get what you pay for and SRG has proved that time and time again. so this investment wouldn't be a budget build that ide be doing. If it will make my arms stronger that's a big positive aspect. i never enjoy working out but i love sim racing from beginning to end, so it might make arm day a fun day rather than a chore. if DD wheel=Stronger arms then that means DD wheel=better health and that's a huge buying point for a guy like me. Anyway i know you cant respond or even read every comment, there simply is too many. So if you read this Barry or anyone, thank you for your time. Perhaps another DD wheel owner will read this and tell me their experience with their arm strength in relation to getting the new DD wheel and ill get to the bottom of this question! Thanks! - your subscriber Mike. Y
Thanks for the review Barry. With some moderate fabrication skills, do you think it'd be easy to make some adjustments to the rig to make the pedals adjustable for leg length and a tilt axis for the steering wheel? I know you only review the stock setups, but just to gauge your thoughts for those seeking flexibility.
So I’m super new to this. Just got my H3 . I told them I’m just starting and I pulled a good old fashion me and didn’t read the fine print. The fine print was it didn’t come with a seat! What seat do I need and what all will I need to make it adjustable and what not
I have the P6 with DD1 and HE Ultimates. The pedal plate is solid as a rock-no issues there. The DD1 does introduce some flex front to back, but lateral and rotational flex is nonexistent. Love my P6.
What is the effect of not having the monitors moving with the chair? I’ve seen the more powerful P3 and P6 models that have the monitors mounted. And although it’s not recommended for the H series I’ve seen someone do that as well. Just wondering if not having the monitors moving with the sim detracts significantly from the realism.
Amazing detailed Video, thank you! I'm really looking forward to buy either the H3 or P3, but can't decide if its worth spending the $ plus. In the sheet on the website it says P3 has 40° motion and the h3 only 20°. What does that mean? Since that is a big difference, it might be the point to make a final decision. The rig might gets used at maximum of 2 to 3 hours a day, since it is a shared project. Is that enough to go for the better durability of the p3 motors? As far as I found info, the motors don't make a noticavle difference during use. Its just they're supposed to last longer. Thank you and sorry for the long post 😅
I'm thinking about going with the H3 but I'm not sure if I want to bite the bullet and just go with the P3 system. I know the bigger motors would be good but not sure if it's worth the extra money. 🤔
The P3 has higher range of motion, speed, and torque for not much more money. Do you plan to review that unit and can you make a recommendation of pedals and steering wheel units to make that the best rig? Really appreciate your feedback and testing and am leaning toward this unit ( 6’2” 250) and would like your opinion.
Hi Barry! This seems like a great place to start as it doubles down as a rig. The question I have is, will it be able to deal with CSL V2 loadcell pedals without bending, and CSL DD 8nm wheelbase? If yes, I'll take this under consideration.
How much side-to-side space will I need for the H3? It would be in VR use, so no need for monitor space. I'm wondering how much side-to-side space is needed given the seat seems to extend past the base while in use.
Love the content. My question would be how well does it pick up the road surface and rumble strips.. And how does it compare to your P1 personal sim rig? Thanks for the video
Dude u can feel every road detail wen u get it dialled in. Even feels like goin up hills n down. Hit one kerb with one wheel u feel it in whatever direction it was that hit. Hit a wall boom feels like hitting a wall hit a car or bump u feel it. It's some bit of kit had one for a while now. Only issue I have is the app for running it crashes quite a bit but u can over look this easily for when it runs good it's dynamite
Hi and thank you for the video! Do you have experience between de h3 and p3? It says on the website, that the p3 has 40°motion while the h3 only has 20°. I wonder if you notice that difference during racing since the p3 gives you the double rom when I understand it right.
Barry; how would you compare something like this H3 setup against a four-post motion such as the SRTmotion, which comes in at a really decent price point for 250mm/s. In looking at 'cheaper' systems, where does the most benefit lie - in more inputs (albeit lower quality) or more accurate, smoother responses.
How wide is the front base? The pictures on their website the rear looks wider. The max space I have for the front base is 28”, or 711 mm. Rear isn’t a problem for me.
Hmmm I think if I am spending a few thousand, I would want a more rigid wheel mounting system... Seems they have tried pretty hard to design a balance of rigidity and lightness though. On the website, it looks like the shifter mount on the H6/P6 is sitting on an extra arm that is added. I wonder if it is actually connected and if it provides more rigidity...? That might make the upgrade quite a desirable option...
Can we assign wich motor for wich effect ? (Sorry for my bad english) I would like to use the traction loss motor for both traction loss AND lateral G-force
Hi Barry! I am going to be taking delivery of my HPP-JBV pedals in the next few weeks. Could you make a "five-minute-quickie" video of your 1010 pedal mounting solution, please? I am not sure of all of the brackets you are using and the required lengths of 1010 to use. I am considering using 1530 on the front and back and 1515 on the sides (just one layer of extrusion) and that will be sufficient to give the pedals a strong enough base so that they do not move on me. Thanks in advance if you can respond to this request (written or a video).
Please Sir im 5.7 foot tall, but my concern is that i would have only a 5 feet long space to fit the simulator, do you think will fit? which is the dimension from the end of the pedal platform to the end of the simulator? thank you so much for your time and help on this matter
