Wow! It is more than obvious that correct grooming tailored to each animal makes an enormous difference in the perception of “correct.” Love that Lexy pointed out the proportions or length to height and how to level that out...how to achieve the look of a level top line in a super athletic dog! And...the EARS! Many of us struggle to Understand what the correct (or preferred) appearance needs to be. Millions of thanks🐾😊‼️
Yesss!! So tired of people thinking we shouldn’t do much grooming. I think when you make the dog looks the best you can (without trying to change the dog) you are doing all you can to enhance their best qualities!
I couldn’t agree more! And I have been very very fortunate to be able to work with and showcase individuals that have the same mindset! I feel very lucky! This is how everyone learns 😊
I’m coming from shelties too.. I just went to a dog show to check things out for this breed and I was surprised at the different grooming that was there! Love this video thank you!
I can not find anyone around here to trim my mini Aussie. In fact, the rudeness I get from so many groomers when I’ve tried to get my mini trimmed is insane. Love the detail you give and I wish more people were like this
They don't need to be trimmed. Mine is 2 years old and never had a trim her life. When I do take her in for a wash I give strict instructions that no trimming is allowed.
@@bobalooloo02 I found a place that trimmed him. No shaving or anything but little small trims around his feet and belly and bottom since he has hairs that drag.
Though I don't quite understand the necessity for dilution of the facial merling, I loved this video. Mini American's are such a cool breed. Very similar to our aussies, this one is a wonderful example of how far the breed has come in such a short time!
I honestly believe it was her personal preference but it is a noticeable difference isn’t it? She explained in great detail to me how new the breed is and how hard my hard-working so many are at preserving them. I must tell you I am definitely looking forward to sharing some upcoming videos on Aussies as well! Another fabulous breed!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I am about to start showing for the first time ever in a few months and having the list of supplies is amazing. I have so many questions now. Thanks again.
If you click on the show more link in the description of the video you will see an entire list of all of the products used. And then this video actually goes over all of the products that she uses ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-16__J1Nam_4.html
I’m not sure if you will even see this but I have a mini American Shepard that I plan on showing. I groom him at home and I’ve struggles with his coat not to part in the middle. Any tips on this?
Great video, love the top line fix. Just remember for anyone watching and showing in Canada. Whiskers are PREFERRED by our Breed Standard, so leave them on! And for newbies...be careful with those pointy scissors around the face. :)
Thanks Jen and Lexy this is a really great grooming video especially for the newcomers to the breed. When the breed was first introduced they were supposed to shown in natural coat which is great except this breed has an undercoat with various textures. I agree with Lexy 100% this is a dog show so the dogs should look like they are going to a show. Would you do a beauty pageant in jeans and a sweat shirt?
I agree with Lexy as well. While grooming should never change a dog, it should always enhance the virtues of the dog. Grooming should always be about presenting a clean/well-dressed dog. As a handler whether that be professional or amateur/owner we should all be grooming our dogs with that same philosophy.
Lexi, thanks for the great and honest video! I learned a lot that could apply anywhere. Also learned about this adorable breed! This is a lovely bitch. Please do say every time you change scissors. Thinning is new to me. Thank you Jen!
Absolutely fabulous feedback thank you so much! Yes we need to make sure we point out when we change equipment. And yes, Lexy truly is an amazing teacher! And her honesty is beyond refreshing 😊 i’m so glad that you enjoyed it. I hope that everyone is able to get a little something out of each breeds videos that they can carry over to their own breed
Lexi, Thank you for the great grooming lesson! It is very impressive how you use your knowledge of the breed standard and well honed grooming skill to bring out the best in a nice bitch. Thanks for sharing!
When selecting a puppy, do you have any advice on what to look out for? Whether it’s their ear length or body length? I am getting an Aussie but I want to select a puppy that will grow up to be really good looking.
Look at the AKC, CKC (Canadian Kennel Club), or UKC breed standard for them. MAS are not aussies (they are similar), so there will be some differences in the standard. Here's a list of breeders I highly suggest (USA/Canada). MAS is short for Miniature American Shepherd. Bertrom's MAS Flying M MAS Dynasty Minis (my personal favorite) Cornerstone MAS Tanasi Bluff MAS Skidmore MAS Meadow Run MAS Flightsong Minis Casita MAS Hampton Hills MAS Mill Dam Creek MAS Exquisite Aussies Crimson's MAS Wigglebutt MAS Moonbaby Aussies Riverside MAS Sidekick MAS English Farm Kennels Epione MAS
It’s definitely coming! So glad you enjoyed this one! They all have fabulous tips don’t they? Biotin for afghans? I give my Chihuahuas biotin for coat. Just a standard pill.
Some cornstarch is fine but dumping it on their face like that is NOT fine. If you wouldn't dump it on your baby's face or body don't dump it on your dog. And for what? so you get a little money IF they win? Absolutely a hard NO.
12:40 the dogs head could easily try to turn into the scissors point! And dog whiskers do serve a purpose! They help dogs know how near something is! "Dogs have whiskers to help them explore the world by sending sensory information to the brain. Dogs don’t have the strongest eyesight so they rely on their whiskers, particularly when locating small objects or anything up close. Any touch or air movement near a dog’s whiskers stimulates the nerves at the base, sending vital signals to the brain. Whiskers help your dog figure out what things are and determine the size, shape and speed of objects. They can even help them see in the dark and work out if they can fit through small spaces." They are dogs! Even if the ears are trimmed the whiskers is what is part of a dog for a reason!
Brandywine Sustainable Farm the mini isint a miniature version of the Australian sheperd. It’s an entirely different breed. And Australian shepherds go up to 70 lbs while minis go to 40 or 30. I’d say a mini American shepherd is lazy because my 1 year old MAS is pretty lazy or it’s just her.
Truth be told I had to cut about 15 minutes of information from this video because she went into great detail on the differences. Again, that’s why we have decided it warrants its own episode. We are working on the details now 😉
@@AvgasLL how can you say they're a completely different breed when they're all literally from generations of Aussies lol . Genetically they're the same breed.
Бедная собака! Как она выдержала столько времени стоять? Машет ножницами перед глазами,мне стало плохо от страха.а эта пудра,ужас! Отняли год жизни у собаки
Oh my god why did you put baby powder in that dogs eyes!!! You snipped her ear a few times and were rough on her eyes no wonder she wanted to pull away. Baby powder causes cancer and your just letting her breath it in wtf
