Dokken's best tune. I have breaking the chains, back for the attack, tooth and nail, under lock and key, and i can tell you that this song is their best all around song. A masterpiece! God bless!
How cool is G Lynch w/ his red tank top that just says..Balls?..and playing Guitar God on top of an active volcano..cool doesnt even begin to describe...))...loved these guys back when I was in high school...
I'm so glad even people younger than me (20) are getting into this stuff. I absolutely love Dokken, they are my most listened to band. My mom and I crank them in the car. I wish this look would come back with the guys looking like this, because I am really into this look, very appealing to me!
I agree motley crue used to be always my favorite seen them alot but the more I listen to dokken I connect with them I love all there music, motley crue had filler songs on their albums dokken had none I can listen to the whole album without skipping any songs because their all great songs great band
This was the SHIT!!! I loved this song and still do! This was metal/hair metal at it's best... I love how this has held up for 30 years or so. Maybe we weren't so lost and misguided after all! We had some kickass musical heroes! This is like a guitar lesson in a song... do it this way and not the other way... George Lynch was beyond awesome back in the day!
you say' ( maybe we weren't so lost and misguided after all )- thank you bratha!!! -that's some beautiful shit. I think about that sometimes. God bless!!
This was preppy metal, only way mtv would even touch metal ..I had long hair, People often laugh about the way they looked in 80s I look so cool.. They talk about their cloths , Laughin I say, about your hair ,did you cry? so cool swear
Danny Hood I had a long ass jerri curl all the down to the mid section of my back, and I wore skin tight 501 blue jeans, and tight muscle shirts. Lived in south central los angeles. Which was very rare to be a black headbanger at that time. But' I fuckin loved every second of it, rock n roll for life!!!! (lol)
david banner One of my very best guy friends back in the late 80's was a black guy..he was THE ONLY black guy into metal that we all knew. He was cool as hell! Had great taste in music and he had such a cool look too. Very unique all around. Those were the best times ever....wish we could go back and do it all again.
Wow, just wow, words cannot express. Amazing hard rock band and one of my all time favorite groups. George Lynch has the 2nd most sought after tone in the guitar world (After Eddie Van Halen). This was the first song I heard from them many years ago, and still one of my favorites. Rock in with Dokken!
'80s hair metal in all its glory. Love George Lynch's tone on this song -- he and Warren DiMartini were really the best of that batch of players (IMHO). They could "shred" but also write songs that had some actual melody. Don Dokken's vocal on this track is also pretty darn good. As the poster said, one of their best. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd never seen this vid before. Thanks for posting!
ThrashIsBack100 I know that, but perhaps it would be cooler if we experienced the actual phenomenon when it was still growing up instead of just going to RU-vid and type the song we want to hear
Right on..someone has the exact thoughts as I do. Love Dokken, listen to them at least once a week! That "Alone again" video drives me crazy with that blonde driving that big truck!!!!!! Cheers from Canada!
little known facts about this video: dokken borrowed the mirror set from flock of seagullls. george does his solo on Kīlauea volcano and the crew had to offer one of don's hair pieces to pele for her blessings.
I am an African American and I CRAVE for days like these when I could listen to these guys, Michael Jackson, Journey, Prince, the Babies, Pearl Bailey, Blue Oyster Cult...all at the same time is the tome of the day. The industry have destroyed the music and it no longer belongs to the people.... Most of the music today is the same and sucks!!! Let's take it back!
George Lynch was one of the first guys that played out of box, unorthodox if you get me.He was also one of the very first who used strict alternate picking in many of his solos, with the characteristic fan shaped fingers. He also was the FIRST who created corky and spooky atmosphere with his guitar. He also was one of the first whammy bar masters and his tone was a guide to every hard rock band of his era. As a counterpart his riffs was never monstrous and innovative.Long live George Gus GR
the first time i saw them i was with dad i was drinking coke well it tasted funny, when the band started to play i pointed at don dokken and started to laugh uncontrollable I did not realize I was drunk he looked like he had a pink flamingo on his head, my dad said oh shit took one smell of the coke i was drinking it had rum in it i was 16 the waitress thought he said rum and coke!
One of my favorite dokken songs. Grew up with this band but they didnt get the airplay of many bands.. Very underrated . Nothing today compares to 80's rock.
I agree ------ Maybe someone should start a petition - signature --- Put this to the test for years we have heard how much we miss the old MTV and what it used to be. Well most of us that remember the many phases of the programming --- but still it would be interesting to see if this could actually happen. Even if we did re-live these times once again.... it is worth it..... most of us would agree - it was a better time in many ways.... In a positive and realistic way.... I hope some agree with this....
Just found my old tooth and nail tape from like 1984, brings back memories. 80's metal still kicks ass. Was looking for "so many tears", from back for the attack, but its not on youtube, if someone has it, they should post.
what's really crazy was that during the guitar solo, they actually shot this scene near an active volcano. what makes it ironic was that shortly after that shot was finished, the volcano that they were near actually erupted. honestly, that took balls to do this at a volatile area. kudos to george lynch and wayne isham for boldly risking everything for the sake of metal.
As Jeff said in one interview, Don is a romantic type of guy. The lyrics he sang with his epic voice PLUS Mr. Scary's solos - those two factors made Dokken awesome. Not to forget Pilson's thumping bass and Mick's solid beats. Keep rockin' !
Your right! that is the way metal bands hair was in the 80's know diff form todays hairstyles by todays artist!it should not matter about your hairdo but TALENT!and Man george Lynch is a genious!
they played at delta down race track in vinton louisiana it was a free show to.. i would have paid anything to see them. i saw a huge banner leaving town a couple of months before teh show i pulled over quick to buy the tickets only to learn it was free.. i hope they come back soon it was great i got some really good pictures to
+andrew lynch So was I 18 when dokken came out and saw some of the best heavy metal ever during the 80's.There will never be another era like the 80's' the shit they call metal now days sucks to high hell .
Well atleast I have all the songs to listen to and no one can take that away. Bring back all this music. Mostly all I listen to is the 80's Rock and I love it. I will keep on Rockin....lol
Dokken were one of the best underrated bands of the 80's and a bunch of great guys as well. As far as their image they were doing what every top 80's band was doing so not sure why that it is surprising to anyone. (big hair, leather pants, etc etc) I guess anyone that didn't grow up then doesn't have a clue.
Great fucking song. When I first heard this song, I didn't listen to it for over 10 seconds and it was an awesome song. That opening riff Lynch plays is so strong, a guitar god his is.
I should've known better Should've seen right through Over and over falling in love with you Wanting you for myself- my first mistake Finding out the hard way Was all that I could take You were just using someone And I was the one She said "You just got lucky" I believed your deadly lies "You just got lucky" You're a devil in disguise Don't wanna hear no lies- no apologies Imagination gets the best of me I'm looking everywhere- still I see your face
I know it's annoying to me that where I live not many listen to this as much, but moving soon so I'm glad. More Dokken fans where I'm going. Although I prefer being by myself, lol. I also have that with my cousin, she's 16, and she always pretends to like what I like, some of it she does maybe end up liking it, but not most
Here George Lynch proves that you dont have to play with hyper speed and 1000 notes per beat to make a good metal song. Easy'n'nice melodic lines with lots of attitude, great tone and thats it! Great song from metal's greatest era.. I've got my own family now,a little daughter,a beatiful wife,my hair isn't long anymore but i'll listen to these songs 'till the day i die. Gus GR
lots of these great songs didnt get mainstream airplay on mtv, usually super early in the morning or late at night lol, i was a kid when this stuff was on so it was hard to hear it then
Your right, Lynch's hair is awesome in this video. Lynch had the three things that made a guitarist great in the 80's; great hair, awesome pants, and the ability to shred like the devil himself.
100% truth that whilst they were filming the Volcano solo, the Volcano began to errupt. Lynch's shoes melted and he was helicoptered off the Volcano. It was his awesome shred probably
thats so true dude. when someone says dokken you automatically think george lynch, not don dokken. he was a major part of the band and the reason the riffs/songs were so badass. now-days not even worth blowing the thought of seeing dokken. wish i was born 30 years earlier =(
excluding things like death magnetic, i think surely production and recording quality has improved on records. it'd be nice to hear the same song recorded on better stuff surely? i was born in 89, and the only reason i found out about these bands is because i play guitar and wanted to learn songs with interesting guitar lines, and tbh Lynch is the man.
Lol that actually is true. I was watching an old Dokken interview and he said his shoe soles were melted when he stepped off the volcanoe and it erupted a few hours later. Only Lynch could pull of something that badass lol.
i know what ya mean, 1 day ill go to holywood for a months just for the 80's metal clubs there, and im tryna start an 80's metal styled band but cant find anyother dedicated musicians, if all else phails ill go solo, whatever it takes
This music has something.. I dont know what but it gives me a chill everytime it arrives to my ears. All these years i have listened to almost every rock form etc, even Nirvana..but brother there is nothing that can beat the 80's and believe it or not most people agree with it. Iron Maiden,Ratt,Judas,Metallica,VH and the list continues to abyss, just tell us 10 big bands that made an impact through the 90's,even 8! Dont try it.. Gus GR
All those 90s grunge bands have come and gone literally, most singers and some of their band mates have overdosed and died but our genre were the ones that were on drugs
On that subject, a lot of musicians are fed up with the music industry. Several years ago Steve Walsh (lead singer of Kansas) described the music business as a "sucking, swirling eddy of despair punctuated by brief moments of false hope." He was right, and still is -- record companies & radio are now controlled almost entirely by slimeballs who only care about greed rather than music. It wasn't always that way, but things really turned for the worst in the mid-'80s. It's been rough ever since.
