I remember the first time I saw this. I totally expected it not to work and the eggs to go flying into Johnny. The fact that it worked perfectly and they still started throwing the eggs around was hilarious!
Johnny was such a good sport: one of the eggs didn't make it into the glass, but he had one in his hand, which he discreetly dropped into the glass at the back to complete the trick for Dom. ~ 3:13 and forward a bit. Classy Guy if ever there was one.
@@PanzerBuyer I was thinking the same thing. He looks to have saggy, pudgy jowls. Otherwise, he's much slimmer here than I remember him being. Perhaps he lost weight? Or you're on to something, and it was the perception of that era?
An "agg"xemplary human being, beyond re"poach." In "egg"cellent shape, i might add (Two Eggs,, raw. Something, else, not Fried and a non-"Fowl"tered Cigarette, please. One "poultry" Cigarette? No?)
hilarious, i thought by the title the trick would "not go as planned", what wasn't planned was johnny's reaction to the trick. dom's set up was great, acting like he didn't know what he was doing and starting to use the broom like a bat.
@@janblackman6204 After Johnny Carson retired, the ONLY talk show host that I liked was Jay Leno. He wasn't immoral and vulgar at all. He showed real class and dignity. He showed respect for the audience and he was an intelligent host.
I like how they’re actually doing comedy and not just talking about the news and politics.. and this is back when they didn’t have multiple channels dedicated to the news
The difference between commentating on politics and being a political commentator. The best hosts are the ones that can make jokes about both sides and leave no clues to their political leanings.
@@Highley1958 You'll be the Planet's Grand Poobah of Orange Wig/Toupee Sales, by the time Pinnochijoe Binladen is through. You will wish you were, at least and, in your free time, you will be begging, for President Trump, to bake a Breaker's Dozen Eggs, in your Shorts.
only talk show I've discovered that even comes close for laughs and spontaneity, is the BBC talk show Graham Norton, the fact his guest drink and are allowed to interact on set, sometimes makes for hysterical moments
And Now we have... Late Night Wannabee Politicians who Only Raise our BP before we go to bed.. and already After a long day of stress and news! Oh Johnny how You and those True Stars Are Missed~
Johnny made jokes about everyone (well, until Wayne Newton made him stop), but now all we get are partisan hacks aligned with one party or the other while doing their bit to control the narrative.
Yeah, but I have no idea why. Dom saying or doing something he thought was funny, and Burt laughing that ridiculous laugh of his, was, well...... crickets. I used to watch those two on Johnny Carson and thought, WTF are they laughing about? Rodney Dangerfield, now he was funny!
Yeah, Steve Allen was the first, but he left the show to focus on studio demands for his other show, but returned with his own show years later, but was too much of a pompous ass to succeed. He had incredible wit and intelligence, but it was no match for his arrogance. Then Jack Parr did a pretty decent job, but he burned out and just couldn't comprehend what he needed to adjust to get to the next level, so he gave up. Johnny stepped in and was just brilliant, he went with the flow, was genuinely interested in most of his guests, honed his own natural talents and everything just clicked. The only one close to Carson is Letterman. If you watch Leno and Carson side by side in monologues Leno is an amateur, Dave is 110% polished and fluid. His range is amazing-Dave was able to be silly and self-deprecating in the moment, then switch over to make guests feel relaxed and respected, but then he could be incredibly insightful and sharp when it came to serious subjects and guests. John Stewart is also another Letterman-level host, a lot of the same qualities, just a bit different comedy style.
@@repealthepatriotact man you cannot touch Connan now, right now he's my all time fav, maybe a little over the top but he's sharp and never ever boring host. I agree Johnny was the king he is the greatest the US has ever had.
@@samuellp1146 Conan is a very good ask and receive host with a comedic edge involving an hour of celebrities promoting their current stuff, but Ferguson only had a half hour and the guests got quickly thrown off balance by his improvised constant witty banter, exposing more of who the guests really were behind their masks. You absolutely could not be fake on his show because you would have been blatantly exposed. That's why I watched him, to see the true nature of these rich and famous people that you couldn't see on other shows. Imagine if he had had an hour, an earlier slot, and a budget for some writers to push the envelope right to the edge......
I shouldn't spoil it for you, but Johnny dropped the egg into his briefs... and faked smashing it like Dom's. The egg was down there with Johnny's other two eggs!
This is that good old Vaudevillian Slapstick humor and comedy that makes for great entertainment. So few people today even remember this. Today's voyeuristic reality tv is just so empty and lacking in any real entertainment. It is just watching the neighbors thru their windows. This is entertainment that I could watch every day. Miss watching this with my grandmother when he was on live.
I grew up watching Johnny, I like all the videos before I watch them! I've seen quite a few that I first saw in my teens about 40 years ago! He was indeed the master
One egg did not make it into the glass, but Jonny slipped it in and then showed the glass as if it went in during the trick. LOL Then, I noticed, the trick only needed the 5 eggs. So the basket of extra eggs was there for the planned egg fight after the trick. Even planned, it was funny.
Always loved Johnny, and truly sucked when we watched his last show. There will never be another that compares! RIP good sir, thank you for the wonderful memories.
I barely remember Jack Parr, but I grew up watching Johnny and all his guests do such hilarious stuff, like this, that you were laughing so hard you cried !! I wish America still had Real Comedians like these guys !!!!
For those of you who are a fan of Dom DeLouise, check out the movie Fatso if you’ve never seen it before. If you’re a fan and grew up in an Italian culture, it is so relatable and funny. You just might recognize some of your family.
Hi how are you doing? I hope you are safe and in good health. I’m Lara from California, looking for a new friend and I saw your picture here. I hope you don’t mind, thank you.
I am fortunate enough to say I saw the tonight show when it aired live and still get a good laugh over the show decades later. Johnny Carson the undisputed king of late night.
The first time I saw this, I laughed so hard I peed my pants! I just love these guys Johnny Carson was one of my favorite shows at night to watch. Don DeLuise is one of the funniest men I’ve ever seen. He is hysterical that same night Burt Reynolds came out and did the shaving cream or whipped cream. Whatever that was,I died. It was so funny. I have never laughed so hard and every time I see it now I crack up! rest in peace Johnny Carson, Don DeLuise and Burt Reynolds you all were fantastic. You’ll be in my hearts forever. I’m glad I got to see you.
When I worked in talk radio, I did phone interviews with Ed, and Dom. Both of them were very nice. It's hard to believe all three of these gentlemen are no longer with us.
@@GBLynden no egg on us. We were in the front seating area just to the right of a camera. I was about 13 years old. My parents were close friends with the VP of production. Try and find the entire show because when Burt Reynolds comes on it gets really wild!
It went political hard left and right into the toilet. Johnny did political zingers, but he was and equal opportunity zinger, and never mean spirited. They also didnt make hate politics 100% of the monologue, or show like todays late nite wannabes do.
Somehow, in this age of ridiculous political correctness, cant see any of the jerks on late night doing that. They would complain that they're bias against all those hard working chickens. And of course, Oprah would probably eat the eggs. Long live, the king of late night
I was 9 years old when this aired. I'm 56 now. This was when late night was great night. Nowadays, things are woke and it's literally killed the entertainment industry. It's not just the entertainment, it's everything, everywhere.
I did this as a kid with toilet paper tubes instead of matchbooks. I don't remember where I'd seen it, but my grandmother let me try it on the bar in her kitchen.
I never watched Johnny Carson growing up. I’m glad I get the chance to see some of it on RU-vid but it would have been better to watch it back in the day. It was clearly the best of late night television. Late night TV today sucks.
Hi Nick how are you doing? I hope you are safe and in good health. I’m Lara from California, looking for a new friend and I saw your picture here. I hope you don’t mind, thank you.
After all these years it's still funny as hell. Maybe more so. When the King of Late Night meets one of the funniest men on the planet, you know that sheer hilarity is inevitable. Heaven must be a really fun place. R.I.P. Johnny, Ed and Dom.
We never missed the Tonite Show with Johnny Carson. What an amazing man. He will always be the king of late night. I took my girlfriend and parents to see him in Jones Hall in Houston. Johnny was hilarious and tailored a lot of his jokes from local events. One was about Marvin Zinler of Eyewitness News. He was a consumer advocate. But he had a bit part in the movie, the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Johnny made good natured fun of Marvin who was super popular in Houston. Marvin’s nightly segment would include him finding restaurants that had roaches, weren’t clean and had “slime in the ice machine!” That’s a line everyone knew in Houston. I audio recorded the Johnny Carson standup with my parents. I forgot I did that until writing about the past reminded me. I’m going to try to find it. I’m sure I still have it.
Compare this to the crap we have now on late night....with EVERY host on EVERY late night channel. All we get now is politics and offending half the nation. And they wonder why nobody watches the lame shows nowadays compared to the good ol’ days with Carson. Carson was there for ONE reason...to entertain!
This sketch remained on Johnny’s anniversary special for several years. It’s not included here, but Burt Reynolds came on next and planted a hidden egg on Johnny!
