These videos are so perfect to relax, just the soundscape of the game and expert gameplay… I rewatch them to fall asleep at night and ASMR wishes it could knock me out that fast. Great videos, so happy to see your subscriber count growing! Quality content, I hope you break 100 soon, then 1000 :)
hell yeah ive enjoyed this series. keep it up. commentary could be cool. or like text to explain some of your strats. could be a lot of exiting for a 3+ hour run though
Congrats! Watching your early game really taught me a lot, just got done with a 9.5k run. Probably could have gone longer but at some point my cobalt tree randomly broke the cobalt square? Is this something you have experienced before? It's possible I accidentally hit it with my drill but I honestly don't remember doing that.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful. The tree needs a bit of room to grow so it'll actually break a few nearby blocks. I put a visualization below to make it easier to explain, but in case the formatting breaks, a 3 block wide, 2 block tall rectangle above the seed will be cleared out by the tree as it grows. 🟩 = block that the seed was placed on 🟥 = block that will be broken ⬜ = ignore this, just there to help format it cleaner 🟥🟥🟥 🟥🟥🟥 ⬜🟩⬜
@@mathewkostrzewa Thanks for the response. That explains it because even though I had my tree set up in a very similar way to yours I must have just needed to move the seed one square further away since the cobalt was in that range.
Could you explain why you mine every fourth row instead of every third (before you have the probe)? Knowing there could be cobalt between those early game tiles kills me Edit: I see now at the end of the run that you go back and look with the probe when trying to survive the last rounds. I assume it's more faster to mine like that so you get down to the higher tier depths earlier, then when you don't have much left that you can mine efficiently you go and take a last look?
It's also because Iron has a habit of appearing in clumps big enough that you'll almost always spot it anyways when you dig in 3 wide gaps. So you also cut down on digging and expedite finding even more iron which is more important than cobalt or water early on.
I do go back later, but the big thing is that the priority is getting resources ASAP. Getting iron early on is very important, so that's what I tried to focus on (could still be doing that a bit more efficiently). By trying to 100% clear everything as you go (which is what I sort of did in my last upload), you get all the resources by the end, but at a much slower rate, which means your prestige bonus doesn't get built up until late into the game and you miss out on a lot of potential score.
i feel like all good runs have teleporter and probe/lift. feels like these are necessities at this point. for this reason i think gadgets should be selected rather than random in order to get a good prestige run. thoughts? do you think you can get a good scoring run with other gadgets?
I agree, I'm definitely in favor of removing the RNG aspect of gadgets in Prestige. As far as other gadgets, it's hard to beat the efficiency of TP + Probe. Strip mining without probe in the deeper layers is really inefficient and it's easy to miss out on cobalt and water unless you're spending a ridiculous amount of time clearing everything. Having to go all the way back to the dome every wave and force every resource to go the full distance without TP is also pretty rough.
@@mathewkostrzewa In all honesty I think the best scores are going to be drillbert and tp, the sonar is quite helpful for consistency, but if you're extremely lucky (which is bound to happen to someone) drillbert is the better option
Under what circumstances would you consider it worth to get the 50 drill? a bigger map such that your scans would need more coverage? My lizard brain really wanted to see that upgrade by wave 35-40; but I guess an earlier score has more of a compounding effect than non-slow drills? Somebody p[lease make a spreadsheet because I need convincing. PS: Amazing run man. Seriously - bravo!
Thank you! I wouldn't get the 50 drill upgrade unless more layers were added to the point where the resource gain would be seriously slowed down by mining speed. Since there are a limited amount of resources available, spending 50 iron is a large investment and the extra mining speed honestly doesn't feel like it speeds up the process much.
@@mathewkostrzewa do you think probe is a bit too good compared to the other gadgets? It seems when combined with teleport there is no competition with the other options. I think there should probably be a cooldown on its use, what do you think?
@@andygeary3531 I think TP and probe are really strong together, but they also need to balance around the other game modes as well. Not sure if nerfing is great either since it'll make it harder to beat the current scores on the leaderboard.
@@mathewkostrzewa I understand what you are saying but not balancing OP gadgets because it will make old scores unbeatable is not a hood reason imo. It just highlights the fact that it is OP when the scores can't be beaten when using other gadgets. Balance comes first imo.
Yeah they have an anti-cheat system and keep separate leaderboards for runs that got flagged by it and runs that the anti-cheat deemed legitimate. Unfortunately it led to a lot of false positives, including some of my runs, but I still had the #1 spot on there with my 24k run I uploaded before. Looks like they just put out an update and fixed up the leaderboards, this run is on there now 😄
They're quite big (9 layers deep), but far from infinite. I hit the end of it towards the last hour or so of the video and end up finding every resource in the level.
So you start sane mining and go psycho mode as you descend. Also, seems like prioritizing iron ore node clusters over single node cobalt is a better starting strat. Early game gathering speed matters way more than early game multipliers... good intel. Will I head over to another channel now and pass on this knowledge as if it were my own, even though I've never played one minute of this game? Maybe.
Why did you never get the 50 iron drill upgrade? Your last drill upgrade was during the first half of the video and by the end your drilling was painfully slow, surely the upgrade would have payed off right?
Mining rough soil at layer 8 and 9 would still be pretty slow with the 50 upgrade, IMO it's too expensive and doesn't provide enough benefit to be worth it compared to locking in extra Prestige score long-term (by the time I'm at layer 8 and 9 I'm not too worried about getting the last bits of iron immediately, plus the waves delay is quite long anyway which gives me time). If iron was infinite I'd definitely upgrade it more, but you're working with a limited amount and need to be able to put points into Prestige still.
It requires a bit of momentum before upgrading, otherwise they will just go through it. With that said, not sure the exact amount needed so it's possible I could be overestimating it a bit.
For me, find 1 cobalt and then dig around and see what else is nearby that can go with it. Having multiple cobalt is ideal (but it's rare that they're close together), and having water is great too if it's nearby. I could've kept 1 iron there as well, but I chose to take them early instead since I got unlucky with my first 2 iron ores only having a total of 3 iron in them and didn't want to fall to far behind.
Just to get a better idea of how to pace myself and know where I'm at. Around wave 40-ish is when I want to start overcharging my repellant (I think I started a bit earlier this run since I had water in my tree).
Ok so i need a fully random game to generate me a block of cobalt AND water in place where i can connect to a ramdomly generated seed to grow infinite health and water JUST at the door of the dome, and OF COURSE he also got a teleporter, AND a probe, sure the guy has amazing skill, but there is a lot of luck involved in this run
Yup, not pictured are the many hours of resetting it took to get a viable setup (nobody wants to see that, and I don't blame them 😅). It's just an inherent part of trying to get a really high score, and knowing how long it'll take to get another viable run makes it more tense when you've actually got one.
What's the point of getting the Accelerated Reflection upgrade? Obviously I'm missing something here because you're much better at the game than I, but from my experience it just doesn't seem to do a whole lot.
It's to help catch fliers more consistently. They sometimes vanish too fast for the slower ones to reach, or get a chance to let off another shot before they get slapped down.
