Kirby have you ever noticed that you talk over people before they’ve finished speaking? It appears that you are too focused on what you want to say next instead of listening to what the other person is saying. I know you’ve got to keep the conversation moving and I know being in camera can be difficult but I think you could improve on this. Thank you for your videos. They are wonderful.
Timothy I don't agree, I hope you can understand that Kirby is very knowledgeable about shoes, fit, comfort and history, this is his shoes and his first fitting so he should have almost equal to say, I did not see Casey not being happy with him interrupting instead he agrees at the end by always saying exactly. I am subscribed to Kirby's chanel, and very gratefully and watch his video chanel religiously and not to mention, this Casey to my opinion is one of the best outstanding worlds top bespoke shoemaker if not the best.
What i like about Kirby Allison is that he respects the process and tradition of shoe making. I am really happy that such kind of youtube channels are there for a small minority like me.
It is such a pleasure to see two of my friends " at work" .Love the room full of great objects ,I imagine the beautiful smell of all that. Remarkable shoes Dominic made , classic shape . He is my kind of shoemaker doing all from the A to Z , this is so hard . A real art! Thank you Kirby for this clip ,this is so important for all of as.
Dominic is awesome! a real heart and soul for his art and craft, much humility too! side question: who made your suit? love that lapel and gorge and medium rope shoulders!
Yeah, unfortunately Dominic, because he is independent, doesn't have an extensive travel scheduled. He hits a few cities, though, in the United States, including New York. Might be worth reaching out to just to see if you're interested...
I love it when you find a video where you, initially, think Oh, jeez, what a waste of hours of your time ... then, as the expert talks more and more, you discover a whole new field to start exploring. Perfect
It’s amazing, what is a ubiquitous design in the hands of Dominic turns into something that stands head and shoulders above other similar cap Oxfords without resorting to tricks which make the design look contrived (I know you like the brand but it’s this that turns me off Cleverly) this really does have the old school look to it. Oh, and love Dominic’s “teddy boy” style jacket
I totally agree. This is why I start with a black captoe oxford. It is the gold standard of shoes. The design and classic... and really allows the shoemaker to showcase their design aesthetic. Cn't wait to see these!
The GC Hampshire is a beautiful shoe, no doubt. It will be interesting to see how I feel about these once I have an opportunity to wear them extensively.
There is a technique whereby the leather can be shrunk using some heat and steam. This prevents the shoe from having to be ripped apart or remade. Can be effective if the amount of volume that needs to be shrunk is minimal.
In some of your videos, you mention wearing a stroller. When composing a stroller, can you simply wear a pair of trousers from a charcoal/grey suit, a vest from, say, a light grey suit, and a black jacket, or are there some regulations on where you acquire the pieces? In other words: can the outfit be made ad hoc from bits and pieces of a wardrobe or does the outfit have to be made with a stricter standard, like a suit (same fabric and such for all pieces)? Do the same rules apply to morning dress?
Great question. Yes - the stroller can absolutely be put together "ad hoc." You would just need a solid pair of trousers (no pattern in the weave) so that it works with the jacket. Try it and post a picture on instagram and tag us.
@@kirbyallison Thank you. I now feel more comfortable knowing that the stroller is not such an unforgiving dress. I am planning on wearing either a stroller or a morning dress on our national day the 17th of May next year, echoing the dress of our royal family. I will try to remember tag you, most likely also wearing a couple of articles from your website. Thanks again and kudos for achieving 70 thousand subscribers.
I dont even like shoes but these videos are absolutely amazing and extremely addictive. My new word (bespoke uniquely executed in all aspects of suits shoes and Davidoff cigars
These videos are great! It's really informative to see perfection in action. Makes me a more informed buyer in the future. Maybe I'll go for a pair of made-to-order Edward Green Chelseas in a couple of years.
I enjoyed this video but bespoke shoes can be "tricky" due to the fact that typically your feet can swollen and have different feel throughout the day. In addition, leather stretches overtime and the fit will potentially change.
Absolutely true. Often, bespoke shoemakers will probably do fittings in the afternoon. And obviously, they take into account the stretching of the leather, too. A great craftsman expresses the sum of his knowhow in every item he finishes.
Kirby, 3 people didn't like this video. They clicked on a shoe fitting video and then didn't like it. Maybe try, i dunno, having some trapeze artists in the background. Or possibly some Hollywood style explosion going off in the background. Some softcore pornography on a tv on the wall. How knows? I just know that 3 people clicked on a shoe fitting video and didn't like the shoe fitting video.
@@russ9921 I'm just confused as to why 3 people knowingly clicked on a video of a man having a shoe fitting, then disliked it. Wasn't it exciting enough for them? When i click on a video of a man having shoes fitted, and the video is actually of a man having shoes fitted, i got what i expected and i liked the video. I am just curious to know what the 3 people didn't like. That's all.
Generally speaking, you're right. But looking at the shoes most of today's modern bespoke makers are making, this generalization doesn't hold ay more. Just take a look at a pair of GG's or Cleverley's... they are anything but bulky.
@@Russell-1 If you look at the measurements on English, French, Spanish and Italian Shoes, it is clear to see. English Manufacturers compared to French for example. The English Measurements are greater in widths all from the tip of the toe to the heel. I have found it impossible to find a luxury French Shoe Manufacturer who have ready to wear "H" width fitting shoes. English, much easier.
