About the Speaker
Dr. Niven is an intensive care physician, and Associate Professor in the Departments of Critical Care Medicine, and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. He is also the Medical Director of the ICU at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary. He received his MD from the University of Calgary, and went on to complete subspecialty training in Internal Medicine and Critical Care at the University of Calgary. He also completed a PhD in Health Services Research through the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary, and the Knowledge Translation Canada Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research (STIHR) fellowship in knowledge translation. In 2016 he was recognized as a rising star by the CIHR Institute for Health Policy Research, and in 2017 he was recognized as one of the Top 40 Under 40 in the City of Calgary by Avenue Magazine. His research utilizes methods in health services research and knowledge translation to improve the delivery of evidence-based care to critically ill patients.
