So funny to see Don Adams cracking up! He always played Max so straight, it’s great to see him laughing. What a great guy and you can tell how much fun he and Rickels were having.
You notice through the whole video, Rickles laughing at Adams equally as hard as Adams was laughing at Rickles. They are trading off and having a great time, really enjoying themselves in great admiration for each other as you can easily tell in the video. Johnny Carson once said on a roast "Some of your friends are here tonight. Don Adams could not be here tonight, and I can say this I think, that Don Adams and I are probably the two of the closest friends that Rickles has.."
This iz what I love about humanity...go back to the old school, it's more of the same, we're all goofy fooks, and I freakin love it. this stuff is timeless
This is why I love RU-vid: Who thought to tape this when it was on (mid-'60's), and then save it until they could share it with the WORLD? Somebody did...
These two really liked each other and had a blast working together. Years ago I found out that many TV situation comedies post their "blooper out-takes" on RU-vid. And no matter how great and funny the particular show was it's the bloopers that most of the time are over-the-top hilarious and have me in stitches.
I don't know if anyone else has caught this, but in this episode Don Rickles's name is Sidney Burns. In an episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show (4 1/2 ) Don Rickles plays a hold up man. While he is in the elvator he reads off a name and it is "Sidney Burns".
When Don Adam's goes into the phone booth, he simply fold's his arms and then just drops to his knees. The producer wanted a way to make things look smart. They thought about installing a trap door but it would cost money. Then Don Adam's said 'I know, why don't I just simply drop to my knees!' They're like ' Yeah!' So, that's what is going on when he does that!
Kids in my school always tried to imitate it that way. Funny thing is, we thought he had a trap door and we were just doing the cheap knockoff. I had no idea we were doing it exactly like him, LOL
My former girlfriend had a trap door at the front door of her home. She had to stop using it because it would malfunction and trap the UPS, FEDEX, mailman and the newspaper, pizza delivery person and some girl scouts selling cookies. (It was supposed to trap burglars and other criminals!) She then just got a doorbell cam. Problem solved! 😂 1:27 1:27
most of these guys back then served during ww 2 and saw combat, injuries, deaths, etc. They had so many more life experiences that today's little squirts can not even imagine.
And that's no joke. Both these guys were in the Pacific. Rickles was shooting at Japanese planes out of a torpedo boat in the Philippines and Adams was straight up at Guadalcanal. Mel Brooks was in the Battle of the Bulge. Maybe it takes a world war to produce a quality generation of entertainers. The shit Hollywood tries to bury us in these days, I think it might be worth a try.
Mel Brooks never directed an episode of Get Smart. In fact he only wrote one episode and that was the pilot. The director of this episode was James Komack.
@@BloomLewis Hopefully after two years you now know that was Mel Brooks saying‘action’, so I’d say he most definitely was directing this episode. Sorry to spoil your attempt at trying to sound intelligent.
THANKS for this!!!! You have GREAT TASTE!!!! Rickles was, is, and will always be - THE KING!!! He should have done more stuff with the great Don Adams too!
Part of what makes this video is hearing Mel Brooks off-camera getting pissed as these two joke around. This is as close as we'll ever get to being there...and it's a great thing.
Don Rickles was known for the voice of Mr. Potato Head in TOY STORY. Don Adams was known for the voice of Inspector Gadget in the INSPECTOR GADGET cartoon series.
+batterymaker No, he didn't direct any episodes. In fact people think that Mel Brooks had a bigger role in the making of Get Smart than he did. He and Buck Henry wrote the first episode and that was it, he didn't have any part in it after that.
Is there any one else addicted to these 2 scènes? Priceless. Yes, as Mark T says "going toe to toe with Rickles".Still, as hammer-to-jezebel says:" Jews being Jews". Are there any more bloopers like these ones? That's right, I recognize Mel Brooks voice in the background. Makes it even more priceless, this clip.Merci loomyaire!
ils s'amusent tout en faisant ce qu'ils aiment, tout en étant aprécié par tout le monde, tout en étant récompensé et tout en gagnant de l'or en barre ... lavie est un jeude cartes
@Dave Posess The director for this episode was James Komack. Mel Brooks was rarely on set, he'd come on for about 15 minutes every once in a long while, do a little comic routine then he'd leave. So no the voice of the director was not Mel Brooks.
During World War II, Adams joined the United States Marine Corps--at the age of 16, lying about his age. Adams participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal. His combat service was short-lived; he was shot and contracted blackwater fever, a serious complication of malaria, known for a 90% rate of fatality. He was evacuated and then hospitalized for more than a year at a Navy hospital in Wellington, New Zealand. After his recovery, he served as a Marine drill instructor in the United States
Being the director of a sitcom...with a comedic disruptor.... x2... just sit back and let the assistant direct call the shots...the 2 guys on stage that is....lolhahahahahaha
Its wonderful to see these BTSes. Stuff you would NEVER see on the air. ( It would NEVER have been allowed to go to air in those very conservative times ). Today, yes, no problems, anything goes today. But between takes, they could say anything. I have even seen the Late Chief of Control (Edward Platt) swearing in another RU-vid video somewhere out there. Classics. ✔😱😲😨 Its good to see the BTS Outtakes of these old 1960s TV series.
Anthony is right. The story as I recall it, went like this: Audition calls early in his career went in alphabetical order starting with A. His first wife's last name was Adams, and he decided to take her name for show business because he'd get more audition chances that way.
no matter how far back you go in time, don still is bald and somewhat old. this looks like it was 45 years ago, and dons STILL bald. what a dinosaur. love him though
I thought his name in The Little Black Book was Sid Krimm. I might be wrong thiough, you csn here his name said in this clip from the show: /watch=RHCHwBGrZLQ&feature=share&list=PL31dBc2gQEfNKspjHZg7qAvh-xrqZelBD
