Very good teaching on just "What is The Gospel". A number of years ago the producers of the "White Horse Inn" radio program went to the NRB and Christian Publisher Conference in Washington, D.C. They asked those who both decided what was published and what was put on both so-called Christian radio and TV, "What is the Gospel". You never heard such humanist junk. There were replies such as, "it is that which makes me feel good about myself" and other such responses. R.C. Sproul was on the WHI radio program a few weeks after they aired these replies and he stated he had to pull over because he was crying so hard. The church needs to have a basic understanding of just what is the Gospel from the bible.
It says in Luke 9:6 that the apostles were sent out preaching the gospel. But they did not then understand about Jesus' death and resurrection etc. So my question is, what did 'the gospel' mean in this context? Something about the Kingdom of God being at hand, I would guess; but what were they preaching, exactly?

Around 18:00, Carson says that Peter says "repent and believe" in Acts 2:38. This is Peter's response to the listeners of Peter's Pentecost sermon, at the inauguration of the church. Yet Peter doesn't say, "repent and believe." He says, "Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Do you know the Biblical definition of "Repent means" and rare is the preacher that makes the point - To Repent" To change one's mind about something" NOT HOW MASNY TEARSwnYIU CONJUR UP. So in English, how many have been thrown off the TRAIL!!! Same thing with,"hades/hELL" - a REAL place, the His hearers knew about,, where Molech the pagan 'god' had children sacrificed". Now DO WE 'sacrifice children?" Yes by the millions. Currently, it is a never-ending traSH PIT. aT THE END OF THE DAY, HOW CAN WE EXPECT TO 'FINISH WELL" . Looking at the Gospel is like looking at a cut diamond. It has many facets, each reflecting light in a slightly different direction. Dr. Carson presents several facets of the Gospel and each facet reflects "the light of the Glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." Listen again and take notes. You will be greatly edified.
The gospel is the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM! Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! God resurrected the Messiah! The Messiah will resurrect his people! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21 Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
It doesn't take an hour to give the gospel out when Jesus saves us the trouble by giving the one and only TRUE GOSPEL to Paul in 1COR 15:1-4........hitting all around it doesn't count......it must be used exactly as given or we fall under the curse in Galations 1........so beautifully simple and concise you know its the real one .......only a few know the one and only...........
You are correct: it does NOT take an hour to give out the Gospel . But it takes much more than a lifetime to comprehend all the wonder contained in the Gospel. In one "calorie dense" hour Dr. Carson outlines the wonder, the surety and the hope of the Gospel and it is a feast for the soul and the mind.
Thank very much for the teaching but something not notified on this teaching , that the main reason of the gospel. So, what is that ? , how you receive the salvation of God after you persuade by the goodness of God, it seems to me there are most preacher and teachers of today got to present to their congregation, the history alone, not the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, may I make a short conclusion to, Christ die, we repent, Christ was buried, we buried with him in baptism, Christ rose from the dead after three days, as the Spirit that’s raised Christ dwell in you, there is hope for eternal life, amen ( act 2:38) God bless.
ASK THE PERSON WHAT HE BELIEVES!! No matter what he does!!If you want to know if one is a Christian? Don't snoop in his life, but ask him outright about who Jesus is TO HIM. TARES AND WHEAT/ What if you asked David in admidst his sin. ??
He's not complicating it at all. He's showing the complexity and wonder of the simple Gospel. No other religion in the world can be understood by a child but cannot be fully comprehended by the greatest intellect. As C. S. Lewis says in one of his Narnia books: the inside of the room is larger than the outside.
Beautiful beautiful we must stick to the biblical truth and not an idolatry made of false gospel that is tickling and heart fleeing, shortened water down issue and problem in our churches and evangelical groups today we must preach the scriptures biblical truth not a blonde haired blue eye if we need Perfect savior who came and accomplished the fathers will perfectly and now the spirit of God the holy spirit effectually draws each and every sheep home to a saving grace and amazing saving grace, true saving faith it is beautiful to watch, wretched vile sinners here the truth and come to knowledge of who they truly are and get a slight grasp on the holiness of God that we will never fully comprehend how beautiful that is and how much we fell at being true ambassadors of Christ, may we be humbled and may we stick to the truth of the scriptures thank you, Mr. Carson for the truth of the Scriptures
The statement, all sin is sin against God, is a statement without value. That is because there is wrong doing that is not sinful. Wrongdoing against Don is bad, violation of US law is not wise, Wrongdoing against God, or violation of His law, is sin. (Third word about 15 minutes in)

@@markwhite5926 Yes. Once again, you're right. When Jesus died, was it for the entire world? Yes it was. Then the entire world is forgiven. It cannot mean anything less. However, being forgiven does not mean 'saved' (there's a fine line between this and universalism). To believe that Blood was shed, therefore there is forgiveness then the believer is saved. Others insist that they must do something to be forgiven - in essence Jesus isn't enough. These folks will be barbecued.
@@IanTanLK The phrasing I apply here is Jesus's death was sufficient for all, but only efficient for those that call on him (those whom he foreknew-predestined and so on).
NervousNorman I am so glad that Don Carson uses notes: he has expertly condensed several weeks of teaching into one hour long event. Having heard him in person, I wish all preachers had the ability to condense and present such profound teaching on an occasional basis. This is not a weekly “talk” he is giving here to familiar people he knows personally, but a deep “lecture” to teach the teachers.
What does his using notes have to do with anything? Most people who give lectures use notes. Carson is one of the top New Testament scholars in the world and we are immensely blessed we have free access to his lectures.
