Don Rickels was a genius. He could rip people to shreads but everybody loved him. He was described as one of the most generous, kindest entertainers in the business. He did a lot of charity work and helped a lot of people just starting out.
Make note: no prepared material. Speaking completely off the cuff. Not a single vulgar word uttered. And simply killed the room. That, folks, is what we call a genius. The Best of The Best.

He would tell a story of when he was going to the restaurant in the old Sands Hotel and Casino in Vegas, and a woman walked up to him. She said, "Mr. Rickles, you are my husband's favorite celebrity." He graciously replied, "Thank you." The lady then asked, "Could you come and insult my husband? It would make his year." To which Rickles said, "Madam, if I were your husband, I wouldn't need to be insulted."

Yeah, he was one of those comedians who was snarky and sarcastic, but funny and loveable (and whose legacy of humor has truly been respected and upheld by such great comedians as Carlos Mencia, George Lopez, Amy Schumer, Jimmy Kimmel and Fallon "sarcastic statement"), RIP Donny.
The amazing cast he put together…. Clint, Don, Donald, Telly and his brother George , Carroll, Len, Jeff Stuart, Harry, Gavin, so many stars in that movie it’s amazing…. Pretty much the whole cast….
Absolutely scintillating, classy act funny as hell, doesn't need to resort to profanity to draw audience attention. RIP Rickles I stumbled on him on RU-vid about 8 years ago and followed every single act of his performance right till he was gone. Will always miss you dear Don
This clip is an example of Rickles at his very best. Watching this carefully, the viewer will notice that Don does not waste ANY words. Both the words and the intonations are spoken flawlessly! And further, it is very very funny! Amazing act, super nice job Don Rickles!
I didn't think it was " very, very funny " at all. The best bit was about Clint watching his dog bark and that was only so so. Anyone who says this clip is Rickles at his best is insulting him.
bby nuck it’s all subjective I thought the “watching his dog bark” joke wasn’t funny at all... it’s not insulting I’ve been following him for years seen him in person a number of times and watched all these clips and in my opinion this is one of his best speeches/roasts
When I was 16 I was moving cattle near Merle Haggards home in Bella Vista California.. Clint Eastwood was getting Merles mail.. One of the cows spooked and ran toward Clint as he was walking back up the driveway.. I roped the cow right before she would have hit him... He turned around and I said that was close ! He smiled and said you are doing a good job... I was only 16 so I wasn't star struck to get his autograph... I was worried for his safety... It's a good memory...
Don Rickles was the best in being roasted by him. He knew every gag in town and wished he had lived longer. He truly was a great comedian. Don - RIP - We "still miss you!!
Watching the older roasts, it makes you appreciate what true comedy and roasting is all about. The modern day attempts are feeble, with some of the most vulgar, profane and despicable things you could see/hear until you turn it off in disgust. That is in large part because the roasters lack true talent, so they try to cover for it by cursing and trying to be more obnoxious than the last talent-less hack. As others have said, Don Rickles was great, having passed just last year at 90. RIP Don, as you are gone now, but your quality comedy will live on!
RIP funny funny man...I saw you in Vegas at the Sahara in '73....You insulted the dress I had on...Never forgot that...Say hi to Dangerfield up there for me...You both were always my favorites...You sure are going to be bringing much laughter up there...
They were good friends. You wouldn't invite Rickles if you had a thin skin. Rickles knoew a lot about most of the people he roasted and wasn't afraid to get personal. One of his nest roasts was of Reagan at his second inauguration.
It hurts knowing these guys are gone, or will be soon. They left such an impression on all of us. I love Don Rickles. And Clint and Telly Saval and all of em. It must've been such a great time to be alive. It'll never be the same. That generation was special and didn't even realize they were.
I love those guys, those were "Real Men", seriously they were genuine characters, they weren't perfect (but who is), but they were a hell of alot better than most of these ass clown actors and actresses today who think they're hot shit (in fact they are, they are steamin' piles of shit), great guys all of 'em.

what can anyone say about don that hasnt already been said? a legendary comedian. everyone wanted to be roasted by him. because everything he said, he said it with love and everyone knew it. he was a sweetheart deep down and everyone knew it. the world misses his humor
Breaks my heart to know he is gone. What a blessing it was to have that man on this earth....pure talent and grace. He would roast them in the beginning.....and by the end, they knew he loved them. Don Rickles .....there will never be another for sure. He now walks the streets of gold with the King of Kings ..our Lord.
Thankfully we have these video clips of him to watch. I was just watching him in an old The Andy Griffith Show episode the other night. He was hilarious in that too.
Back in the day, ... it was an honor to get roasted by Rickles. Just seeing Don stand up, I was already laughing, you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth, he didn't care who you were!

Sorry to hear today that Rickles is gone. There's another video where Don says, while roasting another party, "There's Clint Eastwood, hoping someone will recognize him." He could tear the hide off anyone. God Bless and welcome him.

I remember having a copy of 'Hello Dummy' of Don Rickles stand up and laughed out loud every time I listened to it. I knew the jokes but his delivery still made me laugh....
