Literally every single other Lego youtuber: I’m going to use the same white background as everyone else Tommy: Hold my smoke machine and cool looking lights
I personally like the TIE wing size. The oversized wings of the last two models just looked too big and awkward to me. I think this one may not be as "accurate" but, to me, the proportions look so much better this way
Fair opinion i personally think there to small the wings need to be a bit bigger not talk the same size as the 2018 one but 2 studs on all sides would have the ship much better
The 2012 TIE was less pieces, and is substantially larger. It can be done. But! The 2018 TIE fighter is actually too tall compared to a minifigure. Assuming a minifigure is about 1/42 a human, then a TIE needs to be just over eight inches tall, and the 2018 version is taller still. It's not that 2021 has to small wings, the cockpit is actually too big.
Pretty dumb throwing monetisation out the window and alienating a large portion of Lego fans (children) just to drop like 2 swears. The guy is reviewing Star Wars Lego for god sake
Honestly, LEGO has been too expensive for me to get back into it as an AFOL, but price ranges like this are really tempting me. This is excellent value for money, it's like back in my childhood in the 1990s/early 2000s.
I appreciate the simplicity of both sets while small in scale, they’re still amazing sets. The fact that I can buy 2 for 70 instead of buying 1 is an amazing concept. Good on Lego.
I got Poe Dameron's Black Leader X-Wing for about £60, and the First Order TIE Fighter for £45, none were on clearance either. The prices have just gotten steeper since TFA, even for smaller sets. Come on LEGO, step it up!
I think the TIE Fighter's figure selection is optimal since it's a nonspecific and massable ship, unlike Luke's X-wing. A better opportunity to include desirable side characters, like say Tarkin, would be a new Vader's TIE Advanced.
In terms of accuracy and details, I'd go with TIE fighter. The X-wing has a blocky/squarish engine, the landing gear doesn't retract, and R2-D2 sits too high
Just a note having the tie fighter and the razor crest. the tie being smaller makes it scale a lot better with the razor crest which i really enjoy since they dogfight multiple times in season 2.
@@TommyCBricks but the Tie! No stickers. No oversized proportions. $40 for 432 pieces in 2020 as opposed to $70 for 519 pieces in 2018. Good figures to use for army building and Mocs. Awesome stud to tile ratio. The tie fighter is a great set for any lego Star Wars fan that looks amazing on a shelf without any mods. The xwing is also a great set, but really needs the extra mods and relies on some stickers to look good. Now your modded xwing is top notch, but for your fucking money without any mods, I’d give it to the Tie Fighter.
@@Th3WindFish_ yeah the tie is really good only actual mod id do to it is add those gray inner wing beams that are on the outside of the wings but not the inside
I will say though that I will eventually get the xwing and do the mods after watching Tommy’s last vid. Also the tie fighter could have come with Tarkin
@@TommyCBricks yea, both ships are finally fairly priced, and not overpriced! This is amazing for peeps who don’t have 80$ to spend. These aren’t a waste of money, rather, they are the Dawn of a new and exciting era: LEGO scaling back their prices!
I actually really like the new tie fighter, it feels like it has an old school 1980s vibe from the original kenner toylime especially with the sizing and if you have the money for it the fact that it's so cheap means you can but multiple of them and army build them really easily
Dang forget the sets your video production is amazing!! The brole clips are so nice! Would be sick if you could give me some tips im trying to improve my video quality! But dang great video glad I found the channel love seeing another British afol
Thanks man, I've studied lots about media and editing but as the end of the day I'm just having fun with it so I don't really know what to talk about improvement on quality but maybe research in area you want to improve on and never let your "improvements" feel like a chore always have fun making your content!
You can still further mod the X-Wing with a 2018 style nose cone and still better landing gear. Look up Ron McPhatty on Rebrickable for his instructions, I will be working on that and trying to figure out how to de-square the rear section (seriously its really blocky and needs some rounding off).
@@TommyCBricks Same, I got the instructions for 2Bricks' version but I wanted the new X-Wing for some practice and to get back into lego. To make a long story short, I gave all my sets and pieces to my nephew a few years back and am starting all over again. This X-Wing is the first new set I've had since 2005 or something.
The TIE is the one for me I've started to collect a few of them to break them down later on to make Interceptors out of them.. actually 'Advanced Interceptors' Since I love the idea of giving shields and a hyperdrive to Interceptors Also the minifigs are nice and mass-able.. I'd preffer the previous Stormtroopers but I don't mind the new ones either
Maybe the Tie is that little bit cheaper so you can have two chasing the X-Wing? In the movies there always seemed more Tie fighters than rebel x-wings in the battles
If you want Luke’s X-Wing, get the junior’s set. It has everything you could possibly want: Luke, R2, and a stormtrooper. Not to mention, a relatively accurate X-wing. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if I’m joking.
Genuinely enjoy your reviews, not just for that you are thorough, which you are, but you say it in a non-PC way that’s brutally honest about the pros & cons.
I disagree in getting one over the other. I'm getting both, you can get 2 ships for the price of 1 from the previous years. For the price in the UK 45 for a X-wing and 35 for a Tie fighter there's no money wasted. The last rebel X-wing was at least 80 and the solo tie fighter was 60. It's a no brainer for me definitely getting them as a pair, I can't wait for the cheaper imperial shuttle and slave 1 if I remember correctly they are rumoured to be £70 and £50 again I see no problem, more people on tighter budgets and like other theme's can get what they want at a better price.
If I got the tie I would probably mod it to have bigger wings but the X-Wing looks better to me, especially with your mods. Also, well done on getting 3k subscribers! You deserve every single subscriber and you make the best content, I honestly don't know why you don't have more! (I'm sure it was only a week ago you were on 2k, you're growing fast!) Soon you'll be the next MandR, I know it 😁 keep going with the renders and I can't thank you enough for all your help
i find that its good that you dont have a super special fiure in the Tie because if you buy these ones you wanna make a army for an example and not a (for an example) Darth Vader army
Legos at Walmart recently went on sale and against my better judgment I bought 3 Tie Fighters, I was gonna get 1 X-Wing and 2 Tie fighters but then I said to myself "Screw it" and bought the Tie fighters.
I changed my tie fighter wings size and it’s not hard except getting the outer grey ring. That is extremely hard to get right so much so I ended up looking at the scale of the solo tie fighter (which is just a tad bigger than minifig scale) and ended up using that. But if you have a couple black parts it easy to get the scale up.
honestly I *just* bought the Tie (here in Canada its almost $60 with tax) I personally bought it to make into my own custom "ugly" ship or just change into another tie variant, as I'm ok with adding my own parts for a cheaper set to bring it up to scale. I've already seen cool mods to turn it into a outlander or a interceptor!
I've got them both. I originally got the 2018 X-Wing and am keeping it as my primary. BUT... I've been able to buy up 12 of the new 2021 X-wings and will add your 6 mods for a custom Rogue Squadron. The 2021 TIE I picked up by chance recently, I'm happy with it, AND can mod it into an Interceptor with NO additional pieces, ABSOLUTE GENIUS!!! Great price if you want to build squadrons. Here we go, Rogue Squadron vs. 181st
To me, outside of the better engineering on the new X-wing, both of these sets are a step down from their previous incarnations. Clearly the intent was to bring set prices down by reducing build size/pc count. Which is fine for those operating on a budget, but less so for those of us looking for more detailed/accurate builds
@@poolee77 agreed. It almost makes me wish they had a tiered set arrangement system for SW. The mini-fighter sets the tier 1. Sets like these as the tier 2 (affordable and simpler). Sets like the '18 X-wing as the tier 3 (more robust, detailed, but still playable). Then UCS as tier 4
Might be a bit of a hottake, but i have the impression that the TIE Fighter is perfectly proportioned if you compare it with those that appeared on Andor.
I was able to get the x wing a couple of days ago for 35 Euro. The set was of course new. Here in Europe the thing costed 50 Euro when it came out. I am extremely happy with this bargain.
The tie fighter is perfect for army building tbh, its cheap, it litelary has a pilot and a trooper along with a droid, aaand you can make a tie interceptor about it
i bought 3 of the tie fighters and following alternate build guides I now have a tie fighter, interceptor and advanced for under $100 (bought them on sale for $31 each)
First video and insta sub, you say all I need to know, the quality of the videos is great and it's not talking down to me like most of the kid-like videos I've tried to see. I'm a new lego collector at 30! I know it's weird but whatever, better to start now or not at all.
Honestly I like them I’m getting the tie fight and x-wing for my birthday so that’s a plus my only thing I dislike is how small the tie fight is they could’ve made it 2 studs higher that’s all I wish but I ain’t complaining and also congrats on 3k! You do deserve more seeming that your vids properly take forever.
I call the 2021 TIE Fighter the “chonky TIE” and I actually like the stubby proportions on this TIE Fighter because I think it fits the proportions of the mini figures better. I only wish that it was blue instead of light grey.
I think both are good. Tie can be turned into other sets easily and is 1/4th the price of the Solo set now. X wing is not too bad in size but will require more bits to do anything with it in terms of mods.
To be fair, 35 pounds (35 euros at this current time) for a tie fighter... if you buy two and a moc design to make this tie fighter to make the right scale, then for 70 euro (moc design included) you could have a proper tie fighter with some decent minifigures. Instead of paying 80 retail or now like 200 sealed for the Solo tie fighter version. I regret that I've stayed away from this tie fighter set as I'm a collecter that didn't had any Tie fighters in my collection, I do own the 2007 Xwing (set 6212) and tbh it still holds up to todays standards scale wise and the looks are not bad either. Very nice review of these sets! Love the added smoke and lights to make it all more hyped 😆
Although the x wing is more iconic and the tie fighters wings are not accurate, I enjoy the tie fighter more as a “lego set” due to the fact that you can do so much more with the set. As someone who doesn’t have that much money to spend on lego, I love the fact that I can design and build different versions of the tie fighter using the exact same pieces.
That steam was so annoying I was trying to look in the tie fighter cockpit but I couldn't see any details, also this video could have been a little more cleaned up and comprehensive
@@TommyCBricks no worries maybe put the steam a little more in the background too cause don't get me wrong it's a great way of showing the sets off and the aesthetic is nice
I will not be buying an X-Wing until they give us something that is not Red 5 or rogue squadron. Blue and/or phoenix squadron options are there but Lego refuses to give the fans lip service. I already got the tie fighter. I’m going to mod the wing connections but I really like it.
Honestly da new x wing is better to me. It feels sleeker and not so bulky or oversized. Not to mention the laser cannons on the old one were PAAAAAATHETIC, while the new ones are so satisfying because they actually TRIED to make them look good. Personally I like how the wings fold now too, it just feels smoother to me
x-wing may have slightly better figures, but tie fighter figures are way more army buildable, which is probably a lot of the point in such generic figures, most people, if they have the money, would buy at least 2 tie fighters, because they're a really common ship, so not having any rare or named characters makes everything about the tie fighter more massable
Personally I think the TIE is better. I think the cockpit is better then the 2018 one (which I own). The detail on the wings is really nice. I've bought a 2021 version to use as a base for making a TIE interceptor. Personally I really don't like the 2021 X wing . I think the nose is fine, but the rear just looks off.
I like them both and I got the tie fighter when it first released but I also wanted a x-wing so I also got that last year but I think the x-wing is better in my opinion cause it looks more accurate but the tie fighter is also really cool
