DO NOT GO HERE !! In this episode we travel to Coffee Bay, located on the Wild Coast of South Africa. This ended up being a very BAD experience for us and therefore we suggest, you do not go here!!
These are our reasons why we feel this why. If you do not like to see any negative reviews....DO NOT CLICK ON THIS ONE!!! These are our own personal opinions from our experience and in no way the general view or perception of all South Africans, or visitors that have been here before.
We left our beautiful accommodation in Port Edward, which was a quick stopover on our way to Coffee Bay. As soon as you go past the Wild Coast sun, this is when the fun and games begin. The roads are terrible, filled with potholes, cattle running around, along with bad drivers who don't seem to care about other people on the road.
There were numerous times we nearly had head on collisions, as the over taking on blind spots seems to be the norm here. This being said, we should have known that the travel was treacherous, as google maps told us it would take nearly 6 hours to travel 376 km...WOW.
Once you eventually arrive at Coffee Bay, you are overwhelmed by the beauty of all the glorious views, which quickly evaporates as you start to experience the locals that stay here.
As soon as we got to the "famous'" Hole in the wall, we were harassed by 5 guys, who wanted to take us on a "guided" tour......when you have everything pointed out and can see yourself where to go. These guys will then take it upon themselves to just follow and "guide" you, when you haven't asked them to. They will then, at the end of your time, ask you for an absurd amount of money and get rather nasty when they don't get what they want.
This was the start and the rest was no better. We want to again reiterate, that this is our experience and not others.

DIRECTIONS TO THE HOLE IN THE WALL, ONCE ENTERING COFFEE BAY:
- Continue on the "main" road once entering
- Go past the tavern and "supermarket" on your right
- Continue, till you get a split on the dirt road....go right
- Carry on this road that will take you up the "hill"
- Remain on here, until you see the sign for The Hole In The Wall Hotel
- Turn right when you hit this and continue
This will then take you to the hole in the wall. Please keep your wits about you and be prepared to be pounced on by all the locals.
