I'm no expert but have corrected nose high poor steering in one of my boats by raising the prop tube so the boat rides lower in the water at plane.

Probably not a bad idea but I'd try to set the prop lower as dropping trim tabs will lift the stern and reduce stability! Better off keeping them parallel with the hull or trimmed up a few degrees just above I've found.

A quick adjustment to prevent hooking on the turn is rudder adjustment, pull it rearward at the bottom so it pushes water up off the rudder and prevents the rear lifting and nose diving when tuning and causing what is essentially over steering.

1) keep the nose down with the aluminum trim tabs on the sides. Bend them down a touch at a time until you find the sweet spot 2) steering: I dunno, it seemed to turn on a dime when you were going at a REASONABLE speed. the longer the boat, the larger the turning radius.....and yes, you have to slow down to turn.....but you could put on a bigger rudder if you want to turn sharper.....also, what's the torque on the steering servo? If you're ripping at full throttle the pressure on the rudder is immense. You could be stalling the servo.

@@KevinTalbotTV No prob, I'd first look at the servo and if that is high torque, make yourself a larger rudder. You have a bunch of lexan around the shop. 1/8" or 3/32" cut it into the shape of a guitar pick about the height of the existing one and maybe 2" long, and crazy glue it on. (or rivet it). You could bevel the front and rear edges to reduce drag.

Absolutely not! Bending the trim tabs down will improve low speed only! They are best used for fine trimming in conjunction with the prop angle which is solely responsible for the thrust angle and should be adjusted to suit the weight of the battery the water conditions and prop type! My boats were significantly faster than this 20 years ago!

Kev you gotta mess with the trim tabs on both sides of the prop to get it to stay on the water. If you bend them down just a little it’ll create just enough drag to keep the front end on the water. As far as steering you need to drive it like an RC car and let off the throttle to steer instead of yanking it at full speed.

It is so important to remove and grease the prop shaft on all boats every few runs or they won't last long but no one ever shows it Im still waiting for one of those rubber boats to get popped . With the kids around I would run the boats with out the turn fins on, then you would see some carnage ! Keep those batteries forward boy's. Cheers from New Zealand.

Quite incredible how far we came when I look at my collection of early 2000s boats with brushed engines and heavy 7.2 volt NiMH batterypacks. Even my two "racingboats", that were build to race from hull to prop would be no match at all for modern RTR big company beginner boats.

To get it handling better you need to adjust the trim tabs. The angle is wrong which is why it is porpoising on throttle and doing backflips. Moving the batteries forward was a good move but ultimately you need to adjust the trim so it carves more and bounces less.

It would steer better if the rudder were directly behind the prop. Having it off to the side like that means it’s not redirecting the prop’s flow, but rather that of the relatively still water to the side. Having it off to the side likely also means that it steers better in one direction than the other.

I've had a Sonicwake 6s boat for over 2 years, it self-rights and absolutely never has sunk, haha, not even close. I bet the traxxas is fine as well. After having the sonicwake I dislike boats that dont have self-righting. Run-time of mine is insane, Prolly 60 or 70 packs through it, takes on very tiny amounts of water. What all boats do suffer from though is electronics heating up. Upgrade ESC's and all bullet connectors to make it so you can go wide open throttle from start to finish.

Hey Kev! The newest version Xmaxx is technically v5. A lot are calling it v6 but the 5th Xmaxx to come out was the ultimate. Most don’t consider a limited production run to be a version, so it’s v5.

Instead of ….you hungry ? ( RC cars ) . You Thirsty ? ( RC boats ) Prop strut angle may be up from what I see . Move very little down prop side and give it a try with your batteries in your forward position . Has more effect than trim planes . Trim planes if 4 of them on model the inside ones are for straight running , outers for turns . If two trim planes they combo straight and turns , gonna have to feel it out a bit . TRY TO KEEP STRUT AND PLANES PARALLEL TO BOTTOM OF BOAT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. STRAIGHT EDGE ACROSS THE HULL OVER THESE PARTS WITH A FLAT RULER . GOOD BASE SETTING ARE FLAT , PARRALLEL , SQUARE TO BOTTOM TURN FINS AND RUDDER KEEP SHARPENED AND POLISHED , IT’ll KEEP YOU FAST AND RUNNING A LITTLE NOSE UP AND STEERING .

Kev, I want to see you fly RC Planes in a video. Please do a video flying. Get a 90m EDF jet from Motion RC and modify it to see how fast you can get it to go. Also, put an EDF on the Losi Promoto and send it. lol. I love it when you post new videos. The best channel on RU-vid.
