Don't Feed Your Dog These "Natural" Chews (Feed These Instead!) 

I'm sadly going through this with my aggressive chewer young dutch shepherd. She broke off and cracked one of her top incisors on a hoof and it has to be pulled next Monday. Sticking with bully sticks and yak chews from now on. Love all your videos!

Every online (American) vet I’ve come across bashes bully sticks and promoted dental chew brands like Whimzees and pedigree 🤢 I’vr seen multiple dogs chow down whimzees toothbrushes within a minute. 0 dental value that way. And the dog wasn’t an aggressive chewer either

My dog also fractured one of his teeth, but it was on an ostrich bone. I took him to the vet and they suggested not to give any chews that you can't break with your hand.

My GSD gets tummy aches from bully sticks. He manages cow hooves really well. Some he will only chew a little on and never touch them again and others he chews up that there is nothing left over. He loves chewing hooves when he is in the mood and takes his time munching around on it. Here in South Africa I have never seen Yak chews. I have come across Buffalo horns but they look super hard - plus they are so expensive so I cannot afford them anyway so I avoid those. Thank you for your informative videos.

I give antler chews. My dogs are pretty gentle and only use it to scrap the surface of their teeth as I see, so they works great.

Ears are the best options here. Very safe and cheap; my doxies loves it. *One ear=2days of chewing. **For long sessions: horns (better than hooves). Regards from Brazil

I give my dogs carrots and water buffalo horns. The carrots help keep their teeth clean, THEY ACTUALLY CHEW THEM, they're super digestible, they're good for their eyesight and poops, and I can eat some too! And they're pretty low in sugar. I'm diabetic, so I keep mental tabs on low carb treats and snacks, and I LOVE baby carrots. They chew the horns carefully and slowly, and never seem to get tired of them like with their other toys.

There is a little plastic disk that locks on the end of the bully stick that lessens the choking risk. :)

What about beef cheek rolls? My dogs go CRAZY for them, theyre super digestible, and they last DAYS even with aggressive chewers

Our local natural pet food shop has all natural dehydrated cow skin. They are not like the typical rawhide you see in most pet stores. They stink, have a greasiness to them, and still have little hairs on them. I personally feel like this are pretty safe. I always supervise chewing and i will say we had to teach out pup to keep chewing on the chunk he "thought" he could swallow as this could still be a choking risk!

Though rawhide is not appropriate for every dog, after extensive research I've concluded that a well sourced rawhide, when given as a flat flexible sheet, is one of the best available chews. The same split hides that are sold to pet manufacturers are also sold to the human food industry to make gelatin and collagen. Of Note: Bully sticks( pizzle) like rawhide, are made of connective tissue not muscle. Dogs can most definitely fracture teeth when chewing them.

When my dog was alive, she loved bully sticks. She preferred them then she did with the raw hides mostly because they taste better and that they are easier to chew on. One time I bought two different bully sticks made by different brands to test to see which Sophie liked more. Sophie sniffed and taste tested each one before choosing the one she liked more. It wasn't until now that no two bully sticks are the same as some are made in a way to replicate bully sticks that are actually made of meat. I will be reading the labels on bully sticks much more closely once I get my new dog.

I bought some lamb hooves last week as they looked small and chewy and thought they would be a nice addition to the raw meaty bone part of the meal. My 6 month old German Pinscher spent 5 minutes chewing it until it was small enough to swallow. She followed that with a chicken foot that she devoured in 5 seconds. I'm a little nervous about the lamb hooves, should these be saved until she's a bit older?

My dog loves to chew or try to chew anything! Even rocks and bricks(which thankfully he quickly sipt out lol)

I’ve seen my grandparents dogs eat chicken bones and probably worse taking and nothing ever happens to them and they live to be 15-20 years old. They’re just built different

I have a question sorry it's not related to the video but do you know how much manganese is in green lipped mussel? I couldn't find blue lipped mussel and my cat needs about 0.25 mg of manganese I found green lipped mussels but I couldn't find nutritional data for it :( my cat eats about 265 kcal and after calculating the manganese amount in his current diet I found out its missing almost 80% of the amount that he needs, the manganese supplements that I found are all in high doses

If you feed your dog a premade frozen raw dog food that includes ingredients such as Organic Spinach, Organic Pumpkin Seed, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Dried Kelp, Krill Oil, Organic Alfalfa, Cod Liver Oil and a Vitamin E Supplement, do you still need to add more of these to your dogs diet for it to be balanced?

How about raw beef trachea. I gave my dog beef trachea for dental cleaning reasons

What not to give: DVDs. My 5 month old puppy got ahold of a couple DVDs and swallowed bits of it. Thank goodness she ended up throwing it up. I had to keep an eye on her for the rest of the day.

Would you recommend trying these chews for cats?

The yak chews are as hard as bones they will break your dog's teeth...they are not recommended by vets at least not by my vet...and if it's hard enough to hurt your knee if you hit it with the chew ..it's too hard for a dog to chew on,,, it can easily break their teeth.

No thanks for the Himalayan Chews. I have heavy chewers. It was horrible to see undigested pieces in their poop. It can break their teeth, too.

Why do they make things for dogs that they are not spouse to have fuck it's us dog owners thinking we're giving our dog something go enjoy and that's OK for them and it's not this pisses me off.

I will never give my dogs hard bones and hooves or antlers. That's just asking for a broken tooth

I warn against Himalayan Yak chews because they splinter into razor blade edged shards. You can get the recipe on youtube and make your own, which I've done, and they came out gummy and flexible. Much safer. I'm afraid to give my dog even a light sprinkling of kibbles on top of his human grade food because dog food made in a factory is automatically suspect in my book.

We had to get our 5 yr old Shiba Inu's 2 main big chewing teeth removed because of antlers they sell at pet store. Stay away!!! Doing things different with out 9 month aggressive chewer.

Never feed your dog animal.hoofs my dog had 12 inches of her intestine removed thanks to a puncture ,hoofs don't break down in the gut
