Vinegar! It is an excellent disinfectant for surfaces, is great for rinsing clothes and hair. I also keep Starsan and steramine for that purpose. Several years ago I bought a reusable enema bag/hot water bottle. 'nuf said. I also have a small "surgery kit" - scalples, needles, etc. I am very fortunate in that my granddaughter is the head nurse in the wound care unit of a local teachings hospital. I get her advice on everything! Don't forget first aide for animals. I have cats, dogs, and chickens so I keep basics for all of them. Same g'daughter was a vet tech for several years before going to nursing school. Yes, I am that old!

please keep in mind, vinegar does NOT disinfect surfaces. What you need for that is either alcohol, peroxide, or bleach.
@PulpParadise

@@peter5.056 Vinegar, in lab tests, has been shown to kill many forms of bacteria, including e. coli, but not all varieties. If you don't have alcohol or peroxide or bleach, you can use vinegar. It's effective enough that the CDC has a recommended cleaning method for fruits and vegetables with vinegar.

i saw a video a lady shared of how she deals with kids that need to potty on the go. She had a child toilet, puts a plastic grocery bag down in the bowl. Then opened a diaper and laid it down in the bowl. Kid poops and pees. She closed the diaper up and then picks it up in the plastic bag and ties that and disposes. Would work for adults with a camp toilet.

Overlooked items are rags…used socks (washed of course), cut-up old tees and towels are all good in emergencies. Sure folks use them in garages etc. but, they are perfect for emergencies, pets, food prep and are reusable. Once soiled, simply discard. Socks are perfect for spraying and cleaning, then throw them out! Keep doing what your doing (new subscriber)!

I stockpile hydrogen peroxide. I have about 500 liters of it, and some of it is 12 years old, and still works. (It takes me about 7 years to rotate through all that.) If kept cool and dark, it degrades at a rate of about 1% per year, so even after 10 years, 3% peroxide will still be about 2.7% active peroxide. I have asthma, and cannot use chlorine based bleaches. Peroxide is especially great, because if you have a dirty surface, you can spray it with 3% peroxide, let it sit for a minute, and just wipe. It leaves no trace and doesn't need rinsing. You can deodorize and sanitize clothes with ease, simply by spraying until wet with peroxide and allowing to dry, rinsing optional. It is, I think, the single most versatile disinfectant there is. It's entirely food-safe too!

I bought those silicone menstrual cups for every female in the family and a couple extra for bartering. Also have cloth and old cotton blankets to make reusable pads (just haven't had time to make them) Stocked up on tampons too but the cups will last much longer and being reusable, they are a win-win! Thought about grabbing a couple diaphrams or cervical caps for birth control because I wasn't sure what the shelf life of condoms was...decided to just mention it to my girls and let them decide if they want to have them on hand or not...

Battery operated shower in case the water goes out. They are sold on Amazon as camp showers. We used one during 2021 in TX. They are also great for bathing dogs that don't like a big shower noise. The camp showers are very quiet but they do put out a good shower stream.There's probably other uses as well, but these are some that I have done. Always have extra water on hand for washing and drinking/cooking. If it's warm out and it rains, grab a bar of soap. If it's cold with snow on the ground, scoop it and melt it. Boil for the recommended time for drinking or just melt for washing. Keep extra fuel for whatever emergency stove you have and follow safety guidelines. We've cooked in our fireplace and on a butane stove. Mr Buddy can also be used safely inside but we still kept a monitor close by. Makeshift potty and heavy duty trash bags, cause. Tarps and tents for inside to section off rooms and create smaller spaces that are easier to keep warm. Solar lights and extra battery packs for phones, in case cell towers come back online. Amatuer radios if you are close to repeaters. They do try to keep them going but also you can use an antenna that you throw up in a tree. License is required, as well as some training and study but during emergencies you can radio for help.

Specimen collector pans and 4 gallon trash bags. If you're unable to use and flush your toilet for 'solid waste', you can line the pan with the trash bag and place it in it's correct place. That way you can do your business in your usual place and just take the trash bag off and throw it away. Vet wrap and Medipore tape (in various widths) are another good thing to keep around.

I'm not one for sports metaphors but that hook knocked it out of the park, LOL. Nice. 🙂 Dish soap, specifically the original Dawn dish soap, is used during oil spill cleanup to save the lives of contaminated birds and wildlife. Good call! A few years ago, a co-worker suggested Dawn for something I spilled on my shirt. I'd never thought of using it that way before, but it worked like a charm and I haven't bought laundry stain remover since. Dr. Bronner's soap is good for so many things. Use it in a spray bottle with a washcloth to clean your body in between showers (we shower WAY too much in modern times, leading to skin irritation, dry skin, etc.). This also reduces your water usage significantly. I recently discovered that you can make washing soda from baking soda and it only requires heat and a little time. Washing soda is great for laundry, especially grease and really dirty laundry. Search RU-vid for videos on both oven and stove top creation, depending on your situation. Baking soda and vinegar are also good for so many different things. You can also make your own vinegar and use food scraps to do so. Search RU-vid for videos on this as well. I refilled my Arm & Hammer body powder bottle with a combination of cornstarch and baking soda, once I realized that those were the only two ingredients from it I needed. I use about 2:1, but you could go higher on the baking soda if you want. The baking soda is the deodorant part of the equation, but don't go too high or the alkalinity can cause a skin burn. I found that out when I first started making my own deodorant. Deodorant - coconut oil, baking soda, and cornstarch. You can add some essential oils if you like. Search Google for more specific recipes, just don't use too much baking soda, as mentioned above. Remember to keep any old T-shirts or other cotton shirts you have when they get too stained or torn to use. They make excellent rags and can also be used to pre-filter water you're going to purify for drinking when collecting from sources outdoors. This keeps filters from dying when people just pour pond (or other nasty source) water into their filter.

@PulpParadise
@PulpParadise Месяц назад
Go "no 'poo" instead. Use baking soda diluted with water to wash your hair, rinse, then use vinegar diluted with water for your hair rinse. It will not suds, but it will get your hair clean. Also, after a month or however long it takes to get the buildup of chemicals out of your hair from commercial products, you will only need to wash it about once a week after that. I dip a comb in vinegar and comb it through my hair on non-washing days to help maintain cleanliness. I've been doing this for years without any problems.
