I started removing the batteries from items and placing them in a plastic storage bag attached to the item, so they don't corrode inside the item and ruin it. They're also right there when needed.
Yes! There was a power outage in my area. I found that the batteries had died. The next day I changed the batteries, with one backwards and extra batteries in the container. It was useful two days later when they switched out the poles and were not finished by dark.
I stock up on vinegar, baking soda, ammonia, dr Bronners unscented Castile soap, TP, first aid items, household safety equipment. Our tornado shelter is stocked up with everything we need including a way to get out in case we get trapped. We have been doing this for so long, we have put a lot of thought into emergencies.
I use vinegar with water to clean windows. I make my own citrus all purpose cleaner by putting citrus peels in vinegar for a couple months, then straining it into a spray bottle, half and half with water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Both of these work better than store bought and save a ton of money.
When I first moved into my house in 2003, the seller put a list of important phone numbers on the inside of the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. I’ve continued to keep it updated. I always thought it was a brilliant idea!
Paper towel hack.. I bought 200 shop rags.. a big bundle ... back in 2017. We use them for everything, including dinner napkins. Just wash a big load of them each week. Since 2017have probably used about 4 rolls of paper towels altogether. Mostly for bacon 😂.
Fire extinguishers are important items to have on hand, any day of the week! I gave them to our new neighbors when they moved into our brand-new subdivision. I also give them to friends & family for Christmas gifts.
Also the fire blankets that can hang on a pegboard or on a wall in your kitchen are great, especially if you are older and have a hard time lifting extinguishers.
There are bar lights that are motion sensitive. I keep one in the bathroom under a cabinet over the commode. Works like a CHARM! I also keep one in the kitchen. I put the batteries for that one in a bag in the drawer under it. Gave them for gifts to my senior neighbors so they could light their whole path to the bathroom in the night. They stay on 30 seconds if motion stops.
Sorry I missed the last 3 videos, my wife and I got really sick suddenly and I'm just getting to my phone to watch a backlog of missed videos. Still feel like shit, but I am proud to say that we have more than enough OTC meds to help. I'm glad we pay attention and follow you all.❤

I would add a couple manual can openers. I keep them, yes multiple, with the canned goods I have stashed around as well as in the kitchen. Much easier to find what kind you like then get like 3 or so. Just my opinion.
I've been tracking all of the non-food items that we use regularly to figure out how much we use & how long one package of whatever it is lasts. The goal is to calculate how much we would need for 1 year & stocking up on a year's worth of a different item each payday. Then start again til 2 years, etc. Prices are just going to continue to go up, so I'd rather stock up at today's prices.
Would you consider showing people how to make basic hand soap from lye and oils? I’ve recently discovered the process and I love it. It’s really fun and saves a lot of money. A great addition to the pantry preparedness . Your attention to detail would make a great “ how to” video.

Darn near every time I hit Walmart, I grab a package of paper lunch bags and use these to absorb fried items' fat/grease instead of PTs. I also collect flour sack towels for the kitchen. During the pandemic, my husband was deployed, and I had to have 3 spinal surgeries (yes, he came home), and when I wasn't in physical rehab (I ended up in a wheelchair after the last surgery for a year), or at py 3X per week, I learned some new skills. One was making my own hand sanitizer. I got back into making our own cleaning products as well. What a journey. Love this video, by the way.
We use fire blankets and baking soda in the kitchen area. My vacuum bags came for my daughter and I to store the grandkids winter coats and clothes and my quilts. My first aide kit in the car came in handy the other day the granddaughter stubbed her toe and broke the nail down and she climbed in my car and found what she needed to take care of it.
You should have some cash in the emergency kit also, check your bandages at least once a year they do lose their stick, Trash bags are excellent you can place them in your toilet if you don't have water. ( Just an FYI) You should not store everything in one place, you should have multiple places. Thanks Leisa for all you do to help us.
For fire extinguisher, I literally paused the video, ran to check the gage on ours. Folk's that sucker is heavy!!! My husband bought it , so I plan to buy one thats smaller for me to be able to control and hold.
We have a Baby Ben wind-up clock for the bedroom. But you made me think about how dependant I am on the timer on the microwave, especially for canning! I will be buying a wind-up one (or two) today!!
During the lockdowns I started ordering more household items from Amazon. It was amazing how many items they carry which are for businesses but work beautifully in the home. I buy trash bags, batteries, cleaners, sanitizers, and paper towels in bulk and have them sent to me twice a year. For the paper towels, I bought two of those wall dispensers that hold the z fold paper towels and just get refills delivered. So much better than hunting and hauling locally.
A lot of insurance companies allow for refills several days early ( 5? for 30 day rx). Take advantage and start accruing extra medications if maintenance meds
I have a thin decorative tin screwed to my wall looks just like a photo as it’s thin and I keep emergency money in it I think it’s a great idea because even my 2 grandchildren has never even paid attention to to it
In order to stockpile prescription meds, I did two things: 1. asked doctor to issue the primary prescriptions for the maximum number of doses my health care insurance plan will cover - 90 days, in my case. 2. asked same doctor to write a duplicate set of prescriptions in paper form, and had them filled outside of my healthcare insurance plan at a different pharmacy. Using GoodRX, my out of pocket cost for the back-up set of meds wasn't bad -- and the peace of mind is GREAT! There's no harm in trying this. Assure your doc that your intent is not to hoard meds, but rather to protect yourself from the consequences of supply disruptions or another "Change Healthcare" type of attack on the healthcare industry. In short, you're trying to stay out of the ER by taking reasonable precautions to avoid running out of critical meds. The worst thing that could happen is your doc says "no." Then, you contact Jase Medical or a similar provider.
I've managed to get a few extra by asking the pharmacy to "even up" the prescriptions so I'm not running for refills all the time. ( Prince Charming takes 8 different meds for his heart condition & I got frustrated running to the pharmacy on Tuesday for 1 & then again on Friday for another, rince & repeat the next week!) Didn't cost much to pay out of pocket for 8 or 10 pills of 1 prescription, half a bottle of another & I can budget what I'm able to spend. Been doing this several months & have a good amount stached now. (I also rotate them when doc's 90 day prescription refills come in.)
Although I own fire extinushers when a fire happens I grab a giant bag of baking soda that sits on my kitchen floor. Under pressure I do not think of a fire extinisher but that giant bag of baking soda is right in the kitchen floor. Used it a few times to put out fires. Next door teenager came banging on my door frantic she had a greese fire on her stove the flames were touching the ceiling I ran back and grab that bag soda and put it out and told her do not cook on high. I never use hand sanitizer and opt to have a zip lock with a wet wash cloth with soap on it sometimes just throw in a sliver of soap and a dry wash cloth can always add a litte water as I keep that in the vehicle as well. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it absorbs what you put on it. Learning to make your own vinegar and ph test strips would be a very good investment honestly not hard to do either with the test strips you can make sure you have the acidity level you want. I make my own thymol for cleaning, vodka and thyme yes another tincture but it works beautifully and is the active ingrediant in lysol also used in Marvacide and Barbercide used for cleaning tools like hair combs, razors, nail tools for manicured ect...Kills viruses 99.9% way better than any bleach even better than alcohol. I use moth balls to keep the rodents out they hate the smell only thing it wont keep out is spiders. Inside the home as I see you keep your goods is harder if you have a mice problem they hate the smell of mint so sprinkel it around the parameter. U can get the electronic devises that work quite well but if you lose electricity you are back to the mint. It is good to go over must haves. Thank you for sharing❤
May I offer a suggestion? From the Mom, Nurse, cook..well you know! Disposable Dry Washcloths. They are thick, they will hold up to cleaning the goo off of.. For your vehicle- ya know that side pocket that is the trash collection? Store 1 dry pack, 1 bottle of water, 1 small bottle of liquid antibacterial soap, a couple zip lock bags and a grocery bag or 3. Insert wipes in zip bags- pour in water- use as needed. You can also put hand sanitizer on the wipes and clean the goo off!
Great video! I would have cash in 5, 10, 20, 50 and $100 bills, even change. If shtf you may not be able to get change. I also have paper plates, disposable utensils and cups in case there is no water to wash dishes. God Bless!
Another great item is a fire blanket. I give every Christmas "bug out bag" items for every person I buy for. This year, a fire blanket was in each person's gifts. They all loved it too! And they are not that expensive. All these items are a must, I agree 100% TY again, girl for all you do for all of us! I call you out, all the time, and tell everyone to come to your page! Be sure and rotate through disposable gloves. I found a box of disposable gloves in my mil’s house when we were cleaning for an estate sale. They literally shattered when I put a pair on. I couldn’t guess the age but they were probably 10 years old.
I’ve been stockpiling like you for years. I’m prepping as tho we’d lose everything, power, water, gas/heat. I picked up battery operated candles after Christmas. They’re enough light to light a room. We also have everything to cook over our fire pit, plus a 2 burner Coleman stove & picked up a Blackstone on Black Friday(2 burner) plus propane tanks to store. The small ones were on sale at Walmart 1/2 off. I got 8. They’re easy to pack.
I don't have a large amount of food, I have various size batteries (expiry 2031), baby wipes, Vicks, Vaseline, updated Medical kit, bars of soap, Tylenol and Ibuprofen, Cold Syrup. Rubbing Alcohol, Purex Antibacterial gel, various tapes, shampoo/conditioner, unscented candles, foil, plastic wrap, Bics and matches, cleaning products, paper towels, Kleenex, toilet paper, light bulbs, hand wipes, plastic and paper plates, plastic utensils, garbage bags various sizes, rope, twine, both medical and cleaning gloves, masks.
You need about a month’s worth of canned food ( soups, tuna, salmon, fruit, pasta, stews, chili, shelf stable milk, frozen bread, etc). In the event of an illness or emergency, you MUST be able to feed yourself! You can’t eat toilet paper!
Freeze dried chicken rice veggies and such is great for storing for your pets for food. Its long term storage friendly and not only do you know they are getting healthy food you can share a meal with them 😂
My youngest son has been making his dog fresh dogfood for a while. He uses the same ingredients that he would eat. He told me yesterday that the food smells and looks so good, that he tried it himself. Now, every now and again he says they share a meal. 😂 I help him out by buying chicken legs in bulk from a local butcher, and freeze about 4 to a freezer bag to make it easier for him to fix the meals. I also buy various cuts of meat, chop them up, and freeze in small packets. I buy cans of tuna when on sale. The dog and my son will not be going hungry anytime soon!

I have almost all of the items you listed except maybe one or two ideas, like phone numbers in different places. I have a safe room that has a safe! Duh, and other items that are fire proof! I shall also now include a list of phone numbers with my other items as well as a list in my car! I also have items in my car that are a go bag as they call it ! Trying to get my granddaughter to keep extra cash in her car for emergency, but she can’t seem to keep it. To her a trip to chick filet is an emergency! 😂
Our water dept hit a main line today. No water at all!! Yes! I do have water! Barrels and jugs all full plenty to drink and my berkey was full to the top Yep. Thank you for always reminding us! Dishwasher was emptied so I can fill it up tomorrow before I go to paper and microwave
Don’t know this one from any personal experience, but saw a post somewhere where you could use those solar landscape lights (the ones on stakes) to use for dim lighting in your house during an outage. Not bright but more like night light brightness I think. As to emergency cash, make sure you keep small bills, not just 100s/50s/20s. I have switched to paying cash for everything when shopping and empty my wallet of all 5s and 1s at the end of the day and set aside - amazing how fast that adds up.
I use food safe gloves to keep on the back of the TOLIET. Labled BATHROOM ONLY. put the glove on before reaching for toliet paper. When water doesnt exist the gloves will keep your hands clean.
This is a very good video about the subject. I started saving things during the pandemic and suddenly found myself gathering all the things you talked about and we are still collecting stuff, I had not thought about sealing the matches in airtight bags but I do have a lot of them. I bet we still have 30 huge bags of toilet paper and haven't purchased any since the end of the lockdowns. And no we weren't hogging it up at the store, lol, they had a limit of 2 per person, but 4 a month is a lot!!
Liesa, I am so glad you mentioned the fire extinguishers! Also smoke detectors, with fresh batteries, are a great thing to have. I speak from experience. Not just to let you know when the toast is overdone, lol.
Sam’s Club has the best deal on batteries in bulk. YES, I got those Sam’s lights too. I carry one in my car. My car’s packed so that I could survive snowed in somewhere. FirstAid kit, tool bag, jump pack, food/water bc I travel to client’s houses to pet sit. I need to show up. Cash on hand is EXTREMELY important right now! We have some physical gold/silver. We had enough toilet paper in 2020 in my stockpile that we didn’t buy it for a year. I buy a case a month.
Matches, buy in bulk, get the ones for wedding favors. Emergency numbers, put your street address on at the top so if someone is calling on your behalf, they have the street address in case their mind goes blank.
2020 taught me everything for the need to stock up. I still do it. My son thinks I am crazy. I don't care. He understands the prep pantry and the canning.
I cut out about ninety one foot squares of flannel. I want to stitch around each one, so they won't pray.And that will be emergency toilet paper. It'll be just like washing a diaper out from way back when. I also take my empty kitty litter jugs and vinegar bottles, Wash them out real well fill them up with water and stash them.
A couple of years ago I got on Amazon and purchased a package of "bottle-cap bidets" that fit on a 20-ounce soda bottle. During a power outage last year, I had empty detergent bottles full of water that we used for flushing. Didn't rinse the soap out of them before I filled them, either--kept the bathroom smelling fresh! 😁
True, but using pine pellets instead of cat litter for cat toilets is a lot cheaper $7.00 for 40lbs at the feed store. I also found a kit for toilet training cats to use human toilets instead of litter boxes. Would be really nice to not have to clean litter boxes or deal with the smell, and save money too.
Midland, is the best NOAA hand cranked radio, September is preparedness month and Costco, carries them for a reasonable price we have had ours for 8 year's now.
an alternative to a fire extinguisher is a fire blanket, super handy compact make less of a mess than an extinguisher, but that depends on what your extinguishing too.
Learned a couple new things I should stock in my first aid kit. Something called surgifoam, ask me why I know about that...tried to shorten my finger last night. Cutting French bread with my brand new bread knife, my finger got a little bit in the way. Not a huge chunk of me, but it would not quit bleeding. Quick trip to urgent care where they used this stuff to stop that. I'll be looking for that or similar. I chose to use the experience as a learning experience.
I did this recently too with a sharp knife. I tried Bleed Stop liquid. Oh. The. Pain! Finger cuts are sooo painful! I need this foam you suggested and wish I'd had some. I knew about it, but hadn't bought any. I will now.

I have a simple surgical kit just incase. I live in the country and lived in Alaska for years. I took a class on emergency first aid that covered how to do stitches. And some basic trauma management. I never had to use it on the kids but did on the dog and a cow 2 different times. I replaced the instruments after the first time then learned my vet would autoclave them and repackage the instruments for me. That was what I did after the last time.
I only remember my mum's number because she still has it from the 70s, and the family dr office because I don't think it's changed from the 80s. But it's a good idea because in an emergency I may not remember my own number. One of the big concerns now though is that many people don't have a basic landline corded phone, which will still work in a power outage, you just won't have call display. I think covid taught us all to hoard tp if nothing else lol. I have a family of 6 with 4 teenagers, so I now keep a dozen big bags of tp, same with laundry soap but the last time was a happy little accident because a teen was asked how many were left because they're always in the basement anyway, so now there's at least a dozen 4L jugs of laundry soap. Very good suggestions.
First time viewer here. I'm a flashlight guy. I do pest control, so O always have one on me. Coast is my go-to brand. Here's a list of my preferred models: >Polysteel 600 (1000 lumens) >Polysteel 200 (390 lumens) >PX15R (1000 lumens and rechargeable) >G34 (355 lumens on website, mine are the upgraded 370 lumens model) The PX15R is an incredibly bright light. On the 1000 setting, you will blind someone with this light. It's my everyday work light. I've also used Polysteel 600 for an everyday light, and they're a beast of a light. I keep Polysteel 200 lights in each of my EDC tool kits. Probably the perfect light for an EDC kit in a Maxpedition pouch. The G34 is another seriously bright light. The current upgrade is the G36 (465 limens and can run off a Coast brand rechargeable battery and is only $5 more. What I like about either model is that it's the perfect self-defense light for people with smaller hands. And it's all metal. A 10-year-old girl can make a fist around this light. Smaller people who know what a hammer fist strike is, and know how to deliver one, will be able to deliver incapacitating strikes to much larger people if they have this light in their hand. Every light I've listed, with the exception of the Polysteel 600 has something in common: Big lumens, small bezel. That's a force multiplier when you shine it in someone's eyes. Before I buy a light, I test it by shining it in my own eyes. If i disorient myself, I know it's a good light.

Another thing I'd recommend is martial arts training, specifically American kenpo, because you'll learn how to strike properly and how the body moves. Anytime I talk in terms of self-defense and improvised weapons, such as flashlights, I do so on the basis of how I'm trained (I'm a fourth degree Balck Belt). A hammer fist is called a hammer fist for a reason: delivered full force to the side of a man's jaw, it will turn his head into a Pez dispenser. When you strike with your hands, the natural motion is a figure eight. If you're punching through a target's jaw, the natural motion is for that punch to return back, in the opposite direction, then crack them in the eye socket or nose with a backfist or hammer fist (think action followed by equal and opposite reaction). Now visualize that motion with a G34 or G36 flashlight at the end of it.@@joannc147
hi lisa 🤗 all great items. i had a non-food stash before my first real food pantry. i keep a few small bills for purchases. i get trial sizes of hygiene items as well as normal size. yes for contractor bags. i practice using my non-electric items in case the power goes out. i barely remember my own number so a written/typed list is a must for me. tfs
Instead of water, I store jugs, especially in hurricane season! I would have a few days warning of impending storms so I can fill them. Cleaned out milk jugs, Sunny D gallon jugs. End of season they go to recycling center and next summer I do it again. We are on public water so grid down won't affect the water supply immediately.
I live on the Gulf of Mexico coast. We have tons of bugs down here. So, I definitely have some tubes of Combat Max roach gel, as well as some good old fashioned insecticide. I've also got flea treatments for my cat for the next 18 months, and even a few lice treatment kits (god forbid) for the humans.
