My engineering background forces me to make this comment. Why do all these installers splice into the 6/3 50a service line? The right way is to pull new service line all the way from the shore power plug to the inverter and then all the way from the inverter to the service panel. NO SPLICING!!!
@RollinHomies
@RollinHomies Месяц назад
If you can put the inverter at the connection of the splice, then running new wire is not necessary. Except, if you need to increase the awg from inverter to service panel. I personally don’t understand your point unless you’re saying that the old wire is over Experienced🤔

@jeremiiah1797 Месяц назад
I agree and that is what I did - used less wire as well. I disconnected shore power at the panel, and ran that existing cable to the inverter IN - that ran a new cable from inverter OUT to panel - done. But I put my inverter inside my climate controlled compartment.

That is how I did mine, I pulled the existing 6/3 50amp service line off my breaker panel ran it to my power watch dog then a short jumper from power watch dog to the inverter. Then I ran a new line from the inverter to the breaker panel! No Splicing needed!!
@JustWingingit2023

You don't need to splice or go to panel you can do it at the transfer switch. I suppose that is as long as you have a generator

My shore power cable was going right to the breaker box without a transfer switch. I cut the 6/4 cable, ran the other side of existing cable (that is going to the breaker box) to the AC output of the multiplus. I added a new 6/4 wire from the output of my new transfer switch to the AC In on multiplus. The other half of the cut cable (with plug) goes to the input side of my transfer switch (genny on the other input of transfer switch). Presto. No pulling wires to and from breaker box.
@richpetrelli2783
@richpetrelli2783 Месяц назад
Also not sure how I feel about screw terminals that clamp onto the 6/4 wires. Do they need blue loctite or something to keep them from coming loose in these new connectors Chris is talking about? There is a reason why rv manufacturers do not use screw type outlets (like homes use), because a screw can get loose as opposed to those rv outlets that are shallow and have the press on back, and wires that get pressed into a V type channel connector inside the outlet to hold the wire in place on bumpy roads. Not sure what these outlets are called but I had to replace one and it wasn’t fun.

Next chat to hit the forums will be whether you should use ferrules with that style of clamp or not. So many people get the use of ferrule with the type of terminal connect wrong. Personally, I’m a bigger fan of the insulated Morris connectors and pushing in all in a junction box if needed. Most din rail boxes are so tiny you need baby fingers to use them and that point they seem undersized for the potential heat they could generate This box is pretty good size.

@@RollinHomies so far so good, been put heavy loads no issues. I almost went Morris but these had a cleaner fit and look.

You do not need ferrules for these terminal blocks. Some people do because they always use ferrules, but it isn't necessary.

@markratliff7991
@markratliff7991 Месяц назад
If I am not mistaken rhe "single in-single out" connector is from "shore power in" to the inverter in before the split to the two inverters AC in. I did a similar setup (but with a single MultiPlus II) I just took the output from my transfer switch and ran it through a similar connection device to the inverter AC in rather than to the breaker panel. I then ran a 6-4 cable from the AC out of the MultiPlus II to the breaker panel
@ChrisBairKeto
@ChrisBairKeto Месяц назад
The single in and out would be used instead of the wire nuts by the breaker panel, it's to join the line going to the inverter to your existing shore power

Why do you even need to splice anything!!! Unless you have a transfer switch or something just pull the 6/4 power cord off the Main breaker box and run it to AC input of the inverter now your AC output off the inverter you can go into the junction box and only have to use one cable run up to your breaker box!!!

@@CherishtheJourneyy there was zero slack in the cable, seems like this is mostly the case, most RV manufacture aren’t going to through 15’ of extra 6/4 cable in every RV, they don’t tend to waste that kind of money on RV’s, they tend to do the opposite and cut waste.

@charlieodom9107 Месяц назад
@wdafchuck this is where you are absolutely wrong! There are several ways to limit shore power on Victron inverters. The easiest is to just turn one off. The best way to do this is to wire the inverters in series and set the 2nd inverter to accept whatever you want from the first. I have done this in a marine install where the lowest amperage an inverter would go is 26.4a, and there are cases where the boat could only be connected to a 20a circuit, like when on the hard and when at some remote locations. There are also some cheeky things you can do with "conditional power" settings in a series inverter setup that can save you some phantom power by running only one inverter most of the time.
