A cone strike during autocross popped my side skirt off with ease, damaging the ground effects. If you plan on autocrossing your ND, here's a fix to make sure it doesn't happen to you!
It's hard to tell, does your car have rear wheel well liners, or just rubberized spray liner? I've seen both, and I'm wondering if it's a trim level thing? Maybe liners on the GT for sound deadening? Thanks, I really like the detail of the rockers. I'm planning to remove all the trim and spray everything with Rust Check. We use lots of salt here in Canada...
Hello first thank you for share this tip. I would like to know if you have a video of the side skirt screws that you use, or the installing of the side skirt ? thank a lot
Could you guys sell a little kit with these riv nuts and some instructions? I'd love to do this to my car but I'm relatively new to doing my own mechanical work, and would be a lot more confident if I had a tangible set of instructions and parts. Thank you so much for the vid! It's hard to find concise documentation on a solution for this issue.
@@speedcircuit I might look into that then. I just get nervous about drilling holes in my car, I don’t want to create any opportunities for rust or anything like that.
Hey, just a quick question. I installed the side skirt aero package recently and managed to crossthread one bolt. Instead of taking the aero skirt off, I was wondering if this panel would come off with the aero side skirt attached? The aero skirt is fitted with jack nuts, and I'm wondering if the bolts hold both the aero skirt and side panel to the car, or can I just remove the side panel as one full piece with the aero skirt attached? Hope you get what I'm asking you, cheers.
@speedcircuit Okay thanks. I'll try to take the side panel off this weekend and hopefully I'll be able to remove the crossthreaded bolt from the aero skirt. It'd be far less of a headache to take the full panel off the car in one piece so hopefully it removes easily.
Just an update should anyone have the same issue I had. Yes, the aero package side skirt is directly attached to the rocker panel. Meaning you can take the rocker panel off with the side skirt attached. Any installation errors are easily fixed this way 👍
mine came off by a light bottom out over a deceiving pothole, on the driver side. happened when parking for work, and haven’t had time to assess if any damage occurred. hoping reinstalling is as easy as described, here. nervous. really hoping i didn’t damage it
the OEM installation instructions for the Aero package, or ground effects, contains several of these, not only for the side skirts but also the front splitter. You've got the club wheels so I assume your aero package came factory. I bought them straight from the dealer for my GT and can confirm the kit uses jacknuts/rivnuts/whatchamacalem.
I don't think sport cars are meant to run over cones. Also those little black add on spoilers and skirts are hardliy worth the price. They are a profit increasing tactic. I think the grand touring soft top is the best bang for the buck on the ND2 mx-5.
Don’t hit cones! The purpose for autocrosses is to learn the handling and best lines for driving. You need to do a lot more of them if you are still hitting cones. Good luck and keep practicing.
