Another well explained video. Years ago I was trimming my beard with a Wahl Lithium Ion trimmer, and the guard actually popped off. I ended up shaving the whole thing and started over. Never used a Wahl trimmer again. I’m gonna grow my beard back out a little and always watch your videos for tips, although I may not try the no guard trim on the sides. I don’t have the steadiest of hands.

I go against the grain with the 3,2, and 1 guard when trimming my sideburns. Then use the 6 guard on the sides with the grain. That seems to blend my sideburns back in to where there’s not that harsh line.

I used a number 4 when I wanted to cut my beard the same length everywhere and it was a lot shorter than I wanted it to be. I wasn't really thinking and I guess I was thinking it would be the length of the teeth on the guard. I grew my beard out for 11 months for the first time and really had no idea what I was doing. I realized in my mid-forties I still have a lot to learn when it comes to taking care of my own beard

About two years ago I was making a wheel chair ramp for my dog Max my beard got caught in the drill as I was driving in some eight inch screws. 1/2 drill folks, they don't stop on a dime. Their long winded, takes a bit to wind and a patch of hair doesn't stand a chance. My hand are shaking as I'm recalling that day. lol Boy oh boy. Well anyways I've just left thing alone pertty much for the last two years, and I look it. Beard needs trimmed and I can't trust anyone to trim it, including myself mainly. Pulled out the trimmers today, but can't do it. I'm in a heck of a jam. Shoot. Well so much for doing it today. Time to put the trimmers away and try another day. I just wont look in the mirror, again. Your video was good my problem is more mental I'm a thinking, oh and did I forget to say this mess on my face, my mom isn't to happy with. Thanks for the video

Dude, thank you so much for this. I’ve been doing it wrong for years, and I’ve always blamed the clippers. I’ve tried it up and down, and still could barely make sense of it. Always thought the length of the teeth is the length you’d get for the beard.

Have you ever trimmed your beard with scissors only, and if so, do you have any tips because I plan on growing mine out and was gonna just use scissors to trim it?
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 2 года назад
Not really. Only if I was hunting down flyaways or some that I missed on the bottom edge. My beard is a little too curly for scissors only. If you have a really straight beard, you can get away with only using scissors like Greg Berzinsky does.

I’m here because I used a 13 guard on my trimmer and somehow I trimmed almost all my beard off. I’m never ever trimming against the grain ever again just wow I’m ashamed ahhhhhhhhhhh. I was wondering how it cut my beard so short with a 13 guard on!
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 4 месяца назад
Ooh! So sorry. Yeah if it was 13 mm that’s only 1.3 cm and less than an inch. Going against the grain I only do for my sideburns.

I have one of those attachments with a dial on it that goes up to a "3." It seems to trim closer and different than the stationary guards. Any comments about this? I can't seem to find the guard that's perfect in size.
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 6 дней назад
Sometimes the numbers on the all in one dials may not correlated directly to mm, cm, or inches. Keep experimenting until you hit on what you like. You can always freehand and use a flat home to help you taper. Check out this video- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5alJh3TFbZc.html

I have lol I was cutting mine and the guard popped off and I shaved it bare in one spot I was so mad. So when you do this do you hold it away or do you put the guard against your face and take it all the way down. I like mine shorter and clean but dont cut too short cause of bald spots o n my cheeks.
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 9 месяцев назад
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I’ve tried many different angles and techniques. You have to find what works best for you. I usually start with the guard against my face pointed down and go straight down towards the floor instead of following the contour of my face. I’ll put a video for you below.

When going with the grain, straight down, are you supposed to do the under side of your beard going with the grain too?
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 11 месяцев назад
Once your beard get to a certain length, it will hang straight down instead of curving underneath your chin. Once it gets to this length, you are better off free handing and creating a defined bottom to your beard. Check out some of my trimming videos and you can see a couple of different techniques I use.

Are all beard trimmers 1mm without a guard on?
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 2 года назад
Great question. Most do have a small gap to prevent cutting your skin. I believe that gap varies slightly for different brands. Sometimes barbers will modify their clippers and "zero gap" them so they can make designs or get as close to the skin as possible. Brio actually sells a Zero Blade attachment that eliminates the 1 mm gap. It's usually sold separately and you cant use the guard attachments at the same time. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Would trimming my beard against the grain with a 20mm technically be like trimming it to 10mm with the grain?
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 5 месяцев назад
Not exactly. If you trim with a 10 mm with the grain, you could potentially have hairs that are infinitely long if they are tucked in close to your face. It's more of a hedge trimming technique and creating a barrier around your face instead of getting every hair the same length.
@PapaBlake
@PapaBlake 4 месяца назад
Is it the same if I’m trimming stubble ?
@beardsandbanjos
@beardsandbanjos 4 месяца назад
For stubble, you should use an upwards motion with the trimmer to get all of the hair the same length. Once you get past the stubble phase to the scruff beard (around 2 weeks) you may consider using different guard lengths and have it a little shorter towards the top of your beard around your sideburns.
