DON'T TAKE A COLD SHOWER (before knowing this)

Neuroscientist explains how going at cold showers the wrong way would not have you reach your goals (if they were fat loss), unless you do it right, and in this context the right way to do it is to induce "shivering" which is the catalyst for fat loss.
It should be noted that, there are many benefits of cold showers and you can maximize each of them by taking cold showers in a specific way, this way is only meant for fat loss.

This just crossed my mind after decades. From the time I was born till I move to sunny Southern California early 60s. I took my first cold shower in years last night and was definitely experiencing some shock. My breathing became erratic and I could feel my heart wigging out. I powered through it and managed to go about ten more minutes in which I lowered the temp more and more every couple minutes. The first 30 seconds was longer than the last 8 minutes even though by the very end the water was so cold that the water at the beginning would have felt warm. Maybe I pushed it too hard too soon. And when it’s the time of year when the cold makes me want to get out, imagining the pain from the Feb cold water is actually heat, and Imaging myself in a hot place, it calms my mind down. Same thing with ice baths. It’s all about controlling your breath and that’s how I do it. Progressive box breathing. 5 min on 3 by 3, then 4 by 4 and then 5 by 5. There are many breathing techniques that can be ituilized and after : years of cikd water, box breathing has worked the best for me

Cold shock response is when you involuntary hyperventilate and gasping after air uncontrollable. Heart raise and you will have no chance to control your breath before after ca 1 minute or max 3 minutes. This happens more likely when someone sudden fall into cold shower. If you are under water when this happen or hitting a wave while swimming you automatically inhale water and it is the most frequent cause of drowning. You shouldn’t try to swim before the heavy breathing is normalized. God luck 🚿

After that he would put his fingers in water and move the roots of his hair with them, and then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water all over his body." [Narrated by Sahih al-Bukhari 248.] In the desert, it can actually get cold such as at night or during cooler months. Because deserts rarely have clouds and are very dry, heat is not really retained.

I like the Wim Hof method of doing. 3 rounds of 50 breaths beforehand. Causing my body to heat up and vibrate very intensely. Then I am able to stop shivering , after about 2 minutes of the cold water exposure , sometimes less . You have to expose head to toe to get used to the cold water. And doing the breathing exercises

agreed about head exposure: most people in the pictures have their heads out of the water with dry hair. while keeping cold water from shower out of my ears, still directing cold water to my head at least at the beginning. i do this for both health, and emergency prepping. in late winter/early spring (north dakota), roads are at their slickest, and roadside ditches fill with cold snowmelt several feet deep. so i do this to give self a chance if car ends up sliding off road.

Just make sure there is another responsible adult in case you pass out from this style of breathing. There are a few instances of inadvertent drowning in the cold plunge while doing the WH method.

Wim Hof dangers Definitely don’t hyperventilate before going into cold water. I read that many people have died apparently following Wim Hof breathing and going into the cold. I believe based on info in video link below, that there is also a major lawsuit against him for teaching this! Wim Hof is literally leading people to their death with his breathing techniques and CWI. I have also read of people getting tinnitus from following the Wim Hof breathing technique. Do some research on this. More and more people are starting to realize that following this Wim Hof guy is not safe! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eu5CkkaHB1A.htmlsi=p7_sq0LaPRmVdGZV

If you are less adaptable first step in the normal temperature and then slightly start to increase coldness every 20 seconds and keep breathing deep. It that way your body will adapt easier to cold water. For some people it can be dangerous to just jump in the ice cold water

I swim in 46°F water for 33 minutes today. I don’t shiver when I’m in the water. It starts about 10 minutes after I get out. Why am I not shivering?

What if you switch from cold to hot then back to cold is it better I’ve seen that the heat resets the cold response and when you switch back it hurts more but you know

For me grate start is to take a normal shover with water that is cold but not ice cold. Then when I am done with shampoo i start lovering the temperature until i get to the limit. So this metod is all about improving your starting temperature. My own experience shows that it is grate for beginners. It is probably got for people with hearth problems, but i am not the one with that kind of knowledge since i don't have that kind of problems and i ain't a doctor.

Since learning about the health benefits, I've started taking cold showers. It used to be difficult for me to breathe when I entered the water because of how chilly it was. I'm still curious as to why that was or is. When I take showers, the water isn't too cold (usually around 60-55°). I've gotten used to it to the point where I can almost comfortably take colder showers. i still won’t go ice cold because then i’ll most likely go back into that shock state where it’s hard to breathe.

I've always had poor circulation, and because of that, any time I get cold i have severe pain and then my extremities quickly go numb. I've NEVER been able to tolerate the cold.
