@@peterwhite6415 You're not wrong, but it's still hilarious that Woolie doesn't at least try to visit the cabin before going full contrarian mode. To be clear: not dunking on the guy or trying to say he's playing the game "wrong." It's just interesting to see how his mind works sometimes.
@@GoldLight73 I went into the game thinking that the "meta" thing to do would be to actually slay the princess. Naturally, I botched it on the first try and wound up getting The Adversary right off the hop. My first play through consisted of The Fury, The Wraith, The Den, The Razor and The Eye of the Needle. I finished the game and said "how in the hell is this a love story?" haha.
Paige streamed this the night before he did and was saying she couldn't wait to see Woolie painstakingly overanalyze every choice and struggle to commit. It seems the Voice of the Contrarian was whispering in his ear even for that expectation.
Viewers beware, reported sightings of Woolie "love is just chemicals" Madden in this playthrough. He might look and sound almost exactly like the Woolie you saw yesterday, but he is not.
@@TheDrLeviathan "Do...combo", Woolie growls through gritted teeth as he instinctively grabs the pristine blade on his way to the familiar basement door. He knows violence is the only approach. He will just have to react better this time.
"Forgive me, but the lab demands *e x p e r i e n c e* try and block this after the first stab" he said, as he attempted to discern how many different follow-ups he could chain together on her never ending corpse.
Reggie burst into the room, eyes wide like a horse's during a stampede. He grabbed at Woolie, trying to stop him. Woolie turned his head slightly, saying, "All the armpits are doin' it for ya, huh?"
I love how Woolie and Reggie take turns reading the dialogue options. With the whole "multiple universe selves" thing it makes it sound as though the Hero is either 1) having an internal conversation with the Narrator and Contrarian, or 2) gradually unraveling and mulling through these decisions in his head. Especially in moments like 29:13 and 35:02
@@1wayroad935Woolie kinda fits the Contrarian imo since he seems to agree with him haha! (Not in a bad way ofc Woolie). As for Reggie I'd probably put him on Hero since when it's his "turn" to speak one of the dialogue choices they end up being the innocent sounding ones lol (or at least a few of them do)
They have gotten really good at alternating between lines. Even at the very end of this video with the "everything goes dark, and you die," where they split the line in half without needing to decide they were doing it. It's a nice touch, I really like when they do visual novel/text adventure LPs together.
@@Pompadourius Yeah I mentioned that in the video after this one! I love how that was done with no discussion, they instantly knew they wanted to split the line
I was watching the stream and he did almost every path until he finally did the nice guy path and didn't murder her right away. I laughed because I would have done the nice guy path first and was amazed how long it took for Woolie to even try to talk to the princess
@@Gloraxi Hey, look, he says it first thing in the video: this is a game with a stated goal, which is also the title. Are you going to play Jumpman and not jump? Are you going to play Punch-Out and not punch? Are you going to play Grand Theft Auto and not thieve automobiles in a grand fashion? Are you going to play Hitman and not hit people? We got a to-do list here: one slaying is to be delivered to one princess. Although, I guess he does also spend a lot of time trying to not slay the princess by every means except your mentioned good guy mode.
So, this route obviously isn't meant to come first, but you may notice that there's a line acknowledging that near the end. I won't go into specifics, but there is an Easter egg related to it.
Oh shit, didn’t see this one coming. Been following this forever on ManlyBadassHero’s channel. Woolie’s in for quite the trip… and Reggie’s in for quite the also being there.
If this was made into a show, honestly this route would be the perfect pilot episode to the story since it essentially encapsulates what the story is about (sort of) without overstaying its welcome as well as giving a taste and contextualizes the events of what's to come, and Woolie just managed to somehow did found it first by goofing off.
Ah yes, The narrator would be Jonathan Sims, some viewers might recognize his voice from the popular podcast the Magnus Archives, where he serves as both narrator and filling the role of Jonathan Sims, head Archivist and Main character of the aforementioned podcast
Reminds me of when I first went through The Stanley Parable. I decided to play along with the Narrator, never fully trusting him. Up until the split before the final room, the "Exit". And deciding to ignore the Narrator and earn the ending where you 'die' and get to wander the museum that goes over how the sausage is made, so to speak. Interesting to see Woolie get the same kind of experience, though at least this game seems to recognize if you do this too early and go "There's other ending you need to see to even understand what's going on IDIOT".
Thank you for the playthrough, this looks intriguing! The voice of the narrator was really giving me a sense of "I know this voice from somewhere. It's hauntingly familiar." And then I realised: The Magnus Archives. The narrator is Jonathan Sims!
“Incremental progress!” That callback lol Disco Elysium is such a solid game. And that LP is one of the best on this channel. (This one is pretty fun so far too. 🙂)
I haven't played this game myself, but this reminds me of my first playthrough of VLR where I immediately stumbled into learning who the traitor was on my first ending, without any idea of what to do with that massive piece of information.
Me when I beeline the Alt path on the first date and accidentally perceive the girl as a mind-bending confluence of contradictions and indescribable existence: "I think we should slow things down a bit."
Watching 2 different youtubers play this game is wild lmao. Woolie unraveling the fabric of reality from the start, where as the other unnamed RU-vidr just went straight to stabin and didn't even touch an route like Woolie took.
I literally bought and played this game 2 hours ago, and it was very intriguing. Haven't watched the video yet, but I want to see what Woolie's take away will be Oh he did the worst, but most overtly tempting run for the first run
I called it upfront on Twitter. First run was either going to be Woolie (combative), Reggie (heroic), or miscellaneous (I was specifically thinking of this route), and it was the third. I'm keeping an eye on this playthrough, and I hope a finale can be reached.
35:00 Wait a minute... If the message of this game is "Real people are more than just one-dimensional characters and loving someone means coming to grips with the contradictions in your partner's (and your own) personhood..." ...Then I'll be upset Woolie here got to the point so quickly lol
"Okay, time to settle in and catch up with this..." BOLTS UPRIGHT FROM MY RESTING POSITION AS SOON AS THE NARRATION STARTS. "...Is that f'ing Johnny Sims?!" If ya'll haven't gotten in on that Rusty Quill's "The Magnus Archive" horror podcast game, you're missin' out. Add it to your cue.
This route is one that people really shouldn't experience first. Better if it's the second one or later. Dev should've made the turn around option only appear after the first run. Ah well.
Sure, but then again, anyone familiar with choose-your-adventure type games should already know that the "say no to the adventure" choice always leads to either a joke ending or a meta ending. Usually you save that for later and want to get a taste of the actual game first.
The "turn around" option is the source of several newcomer pitfalls. Not only does it get you one of the weirder routes up-front, it's a secret route mulligan if you time it "right" - or a secret premature bad end if you do it twice. The game mostly does a pretty good job of making sure the player can keep going no matter what happens, but yes, this option should have been locked at first to ensure players establish a baseline run up-front.
Its so funny to see, frame one, deciding to pick the stranger path. Though it does make sense, of course youd pick the fuck off ending for goofs if its given to you
I'm not tired of these kinds of narratives, but I feel like I'm supposed to be, I enjoy them while at the same time I roll my eyes at all this happening again, maybe that's some kinda meta statement on it all, that while I am familiar with these tricks no matter how many times I see them they never lose novelty. Try out "Who's Lila?" it's pretty good.
To no one’s surprise, today we learned that Woolie would rather end reality and float eternally in the void than have a prosper interaction with a white woman.
Recently finished this game and loved it. Interesting to see someone fresh to it take things in a completely opposite direction from the first path I took. Hahah
Ack, sad he didn't take the knife during The Stranger. Some funny options missed. Update: Lawd, he missed so much of dialogue in this route by picking action instead of [explore] options.
WOW I was not expecting Nicole Goodnight and fucking Johnathan Sims to be in this. Got a 1-2 punch of NoSleep Podcast and Magnus Archives. Listened to those shows a ton when the pandemic started. Good stuff. I had to pause the video when Sims began narrating cos god did I miss that guy sounding all spooky, so I guess I HAVE to pick this up now. (I was already considering buying this anyways, lol)
43:05 there is no Ending, there is no Beginning. Only and infinity of Choice and Perspectives that She is trapped in…because “you” have to Choose. Perhaps they All can die in this form. And So Can you… Remember, you are the only one making the choices here 😊
Axe-Shoe-Alley as a Princess she is royalty but not the Monarch, that would be the King or in exceptional cases the Queen. Unless this is a Super Mario Bros situation in which case she rules by the strength of her Peach which is just and legitimate
@@cyberninjazero5659 She could also be the sovereign but not have gone through the formality of coronation just yet. Or she could be the ruler of a principality. This could be set in Monaco. It'd explain why the world is so small.
@@cyberninjazero5659 "Unless this is a Super Mario Bros situation in which case she rules by the strength of her Peach which is just and legitimate" I'm sorely tempted to endorse your Gyatt-based society, but I sadly must insist -- as royalty, she is fundamentally a threat that must be eliminated.
So far the only flaw with the game I can see is that some of the dialogue doesn't seem to account for getting that ending as your first encounter with the princess, otherwise it's a wild Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style game.
@@snowythompson2349 Let me rephrase then, since you insist on being hyper specific. 99% of people will go with the game's premise, as it's why they bought the game in the first place.
@@Eidlones I think you mean "Most people won't choose to walk away as the first option" because I think they very much also discovered the actual premise of the game by doing what they did.
Woolie "Love is just chemicals" Madden and Reggie "W O U L D" Reggerstin content their way into an ending that all 'Tubers goof into because "content lol very funny lol".
