The fact the graphics of Super Donkey Kong 99 are able to be as close to the original SNES Donkey Kong Country games as they are is amazing. Too bad the animation frames and physics took such a major hit.

I don't understand why the animations and framerate are so bad... The Megadrive could do much better. The NES hacks did a better job (especially on DK2)

All they really did was hastily copy the sprites over from the SNES with sloppy posterization. The reason the animations are missing so many frames is probably just because it would have been too much work to rip, modify, and implement them all. The Genesis should be more than capable of a decent DKC conversion, since that game didn’t really use any SNES-specific special effects. Other than Mode 7 both systems have very comparable gameplay capabilities.

Bearing in mind the limitations of the consoles these games appeared on, there are some frighteningly decent games here - the Famicom versions look particularly great, but to give them all a quick play wouldn't be a waste of time. I think perhaps more could be done with the Mega Drive hardware (for instance, Treasure made some incredible MD games that still look great to this day, so there's no excuse for shoddy workmanship!) - but generally, there are some pretty swish bootlegs here. I was going to say 'Nintendo and Rare better watch out!', but I think we all know that Nintendo and Rare can sleep soundly in their banknote-stuffed beds. Thank you for making this video, by the way! I'm a little more savvy now as to what's out there regarding knock-offs - and knowing is half the battle. :)

The ironic thing is that DKC3GB debatably has better backgrounds than the official Donkey Kong Land 3 game. It feels more complete and readable. It's not as heavily detailed, but the detail that exists is commendable.
