I saw Donna in 2011 right before she died, and she hit ever single note just like she did 40 years earlier! Amazing!!! She is probably the greatest vocalist ever!!! Thank for all your great reactions to Donna, she still does not get the credit she deserves.
No problem at all. Hey! I’m one of those people who realized how amazing her voice really is late. Her voice was one of a kind. WOW. And she was GORGEOUS. She most definitely doesn’t get the credit she deserves. She deserves WAY more. 💯😊.
Donna always sang so effortlessly. She never strained or broke a sweat when she belted out long notes. She is one of a kind and probably the greatest vocalist of all time.
Donna concerts were parties. You never sat down, unless she was doing a ballad, in which she always slayed! She did not like, nor do I the label of queen of disco, because as you said, this woman could sing anything and everything, and she did ! She did Rock, she did New Wave, she did country, she did standards, she did ballads, she did dance music she did jazz. both live and on record, and did it effortlessly and amazingly well everytime. I miss her so much because I grew up with her. Luckily I saw her life many times, and was actually at the concert that night she recorded her famous Live andn More live album at the Universal Amphitheater here in Los Angeles.
Never missed any of her concerts when she came in town. I still have posters , t shirts and complete music and movie collection. Yes she was more than Disco. Rip my dear ANGEL.
I love that you have found her again in your life 🥰 There's other Grammy Awards where she performed but another one I like is her 1983 or 1984 performance of She Works Hard for the Money and she looked amazing as usual. If you want to try another song that is not popular and showcases her vocals, listen to Whispering Waves. it's more of a softer vocal but I love that one! 🤗 It's from her first album, Love to Love You , Baby.
Great Reaction, Patrick! My fave song from MS Donna too! She gave credit in her award acceptance speech to 'Paulie' that was the songwriter and fellow actor in her movie debut ' Thank God it's Friday! Disco classic. Mr. Paul Jabara also wrote such classics as ' No More Tears' (Enough is Enough) that disco duet with Ms Streisand and the Weather Girls classic 'Its Raining Men' ❤❤❤
The backup singer was her sister whose tone is very similar to Donna's!!!! I thought the same thing about the audience but if you look at the entire clip, the audience gives her mad props where Helen Reddy has to acknowledge the performance!!!! Please react to her performance of Anyway At All on Jay Leno!!!!! Thanks
Such a different era......had that been today it would've been OVA. That crowd would've been crazy wild. God love Donna. I remember I was a kid like 9 years old and wanted to be her. God love her.
Yes Patrick, she was much more than disco and one of the best singers ever, period! While she was the hottest thing in music during the late 70s, early 80s, dominating the charts and selling millions of double album classics, her legacy didn't seem to live on like some others nor was she often mentioned as one of the great singers, but she was that and more!
Patrick 👋🏾 Thank you so much I have no words Being an avid fan of Donna’s since 1976, I love you for loving Donna’s vocal resonance and range the way you do. She changed the game for all her contemporaries and laid down the gauntlet for all the younger singers who followed 20 years down the line….and still she is untouched, unmatched, irreplaceable and sheer Magic 🪄✨. Thank you 🙏🏾 She is 💎💎💎💫☄️🔥👑👑👑
Hi Pat… Sometime, you NEEEED TO ALSO REACT TO: K.D. LANG …When you hear her voice, you’ll understand why! (She’s one of those “effortlessly beautiful” vocalists - similar to Karen Carpenter maybe - except K.D. can also PROJECT like Dame Bassey.) RECOMMEND: “HALLELUJAH” PERFORMED LIVE AT THE 2010 OLYMPICS (When the song’s writer Leonard Cohen first heard K.D. sing this song, he said that no one else should bother performing it anymore… because her rendition is JUST THAT PERFECT.) ALSO… K.D.’s DUET with ROY ORBISON of Roy’s song: “CRYING” (Which - since Roy passed away - she always performs as a tribute to him.) P.S. Just this last wknd, K.D. sang a gorgeous tribute on TV to Tony Bennett after his passing. (She & Tony had also sung together.)
Dick Clark created the Disco category for Donna Summer. It didn’t exist before. The Grammy’s didn’t respect it. So Dick Clark did his thing. Mary is the call and response voice. Her sisters, Sunshine is their name, were Her background singers. There’s a whole other history to the audience sitting. Watch an episode of American Bandstand and watch an episode of Soul Train. Check out her Midnight Special performances. “I feel love,” brilliant.
Powerhouse vocals, that's Donna Summer. I had to laugh at your comment about the audience. They could move a bit to the groove, but I think that's how it is at an awards show, very stiff. I think 1979 was the year they had the "Disco Sucks" movement and they gathered at a Baseball field to burn disco records (so stupid). Last Dance was Donna Summer's signature song. Another song you should react to is, If There Is Music There, from her VH1 1999 concert. Woah baby!
Oh I get it now. But, still no way I would not be on my feet watching her. 😂. Yes. I’ve gotten a few request for that song. I will check it out. Thank you!
President Pat, I am so happy that you have uncovered what an unbelievable performer Donna Summer was. Tagged as the Disco Queen (which she was,) but she was MUCH MORE. She was so underrated, and because of that sort of unknown to younger generations. As you discovered, Donna could sing any GENRE and be the BEST at It! As she stated, "I am an actress who sings." Donna would become the character demanded by the song and totally own it. Her stage presence was unmatched!! Her live performances were amazing. There are so many great ones. This is her performing "Hot Stuff" at the Hollywood Bowl in 1979. Watch how she twirls her skirt and does the "penguin walk" to which the audience goes crazy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jXkLzzxCWuw.html Also listen to her ballads like "Mimi's Song" written for her first daughter and "Starting Over" co-written with her husband, Bruce Sudano, about his parent's divorce late in life. It's impossible to keep a dry eye! And here she is singing a rock medley from the 60s with her future husband and his group, Brooklyn Dreams. She kills it, especially on "Heard It Through the Grapevine!" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WzM5_Wwafrk.html
Thank you so much for the suggestions. I’m so glad I started doing reaction because I truly was fooled about Donna Summer. I would have NEVER how brilliant of a true vocalist she was. She is honestly one of the greatest female singers I have ever heard. Such a talented and amazing performer too. 💯😎.
Patrick PLEASE react to Donna's "If There is Music There" live from her VH1 concert. No question this performance completely puts her as one of top two or three female vocalists ever. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qNL0N5zW3Js.html
