The transmissions from the other marines were pretty eerie as well. You just knew whilst you were making your way back to HQ, they were getting torn apart "THEY BREAKING THROUGH THE WALLS!!!!"
@@aaronkenyon7112 Agreed. I remember the first time I played through Doom 3, those radio transmissions damn near gave me nightmares. But then again I was only 9 at the time lol.
I always liked this guy in a way. It was the first time in a Doom game I'd had any real extended contact with another Marine. In a way, his presence in the game felt almost symbolic, his occasional radio transmissions made me feel safer as the base was still normal, almost kind of like his continued presence is like training wheels as you get more used to fighting demons. *SPOILER ALERT* And then, as the game gets scarier his transmissions ultimately stop, and of course, then you fight the corrupted demonic version of him, tragically severing the bond and sort of master-apprentice relationship you had with him. It was at that point as a kid I really knew I was all alone as far as Doom 3 was concerned at least; the final link you had to anyone or anything that felt like civilization or safety or a friend was gone. I still do not know to this day if he was always working with Betruger or if he was just corrupted at some point after the initial section of the game. I like to think he was genuinely concerned about the player's safety most of the game as that sort of makes sense, he might have even told you to send the distress signal out of a genuine desire to get help to Mars for the few remaining people there. I kind of wish Id would confirm either way, I'd like to finally know after all these years.
@@nicholasperez1907 That has basically been the subject of much speculation since the game came out. Was it always or just after a certain point. People speculate that it was right after you send the message(or don't) for reinforcements. If you don't he sends you a message and he is interrupted by something.
Nicholas Perez I honestly think Sarge had nothing to do with Betruger or the demon horde. If he was on the same side with Betruger in the very beginning, he would’ve done everything in his power to send the distress call himself. Even as soon as the invasion started. Which he didn’t. If he and Betruger were on the same side, Kelly wouldn’t have been cut off from everything and everyone else. When it came to sending the message, Kelly desperately needed reinforcements to try and regain control of the base and to have a means of rescue while Swann wanted to quarantine the base until they knew what they were up against and to prevent the demons from reaching Earth. Honestly. I think all 3 were on the same side. Sarge, Swann, and Campbell. At least that’s my view of it. Sarge was your friend all along until Betruger found him and turned him somehow. Swann and Campbell were your friends cause they were trying to destroy the main portal in Delta (failed) and we’re trying to destroy the second portal in the Caverns once the fleet was on the way, But were ambushed when Sarge (Sabaoth) found them, leaving Swann to die in the Delta office and Campbell dying in the CPU Complex before they could get there. Sorry I’ve been playing this game for almost 15 years now lol
The way he handled the beginning of the invasion was quite commendable I think, if I were a marine during that time and weren't immediately killed. His calm, controlled, and confident tone really helps keep the spirits up.
Maybe betruger hidden his true color, and asked for escort to sgt kelly and his marines. When the invasion began scattered marines were down one by one but some of teams could be survived but not mentioned on the game. But the marines were in delta labs with betruger and kelly lasted long as far as i can imagine. Maybe betruger ordered the demons to possess UAC security forces first, and concentrate the attacks on the civilian only. But when we got to monorail, betruger turns a marine into Demon Commando. on this point, he decided to show his true color and turned all remaining marines(including escorting marines)around the delta labs to the commandos. (Thats we can see many commandos after the monorail. Especially in delta complex.) And took the sgt kelly and turned to Sabaoth at last.
For me, 2:10 to 2:14 may imply that Sgt. Kelly was captured at that point....a lot of ambiguity. Could also indicate that he doesn't need to keep his "buddy buddy" act up with the main character when he was already a demon puppet. I do think it most likely that he is captured after you send or do not send the transmission in the communications tower.
@@ttpbroadcastingcompany.4460 Ah I didn’t even pay attention to the vending machines. When I first got Doom 3 in 2004 or 2005 I actually hated it because of how different the pace was compared to past Doom games. Fast forward to 2020 I decided to give the game a second chance due to changes on how I now view games and I’m making up for lost times.
That's actually a separate thing from his radio transmissions. He has two video calls as well, one in the revisited Mars City level and another in Delta One.
That's why there's a theory that he was Evil from the start, and actively working against those under him to deliberately order them through the worst parts of the base.
@@gabrielarchange4680 Delta was the worst part of the base that was the demon hub of the invasion, if anything he could've sent all of the squads to delta if he wanted to kill them, marine command was likely the best option for them to rally together keep in mind he underestimated the invasion and didn't know what they were up against and treated the demons if they were simply insurgents and terrorist and bandits and not creatures from a different dimension i doubt he was working with hell and betruger.
I think he was against us the whole time..what was he doin in delta complexe during the invasion? First hes at matine hq then he send the new recruit in a base he knows nothing about then he goes to delta complex he tell every unit to go back to marine hq and they all die there thats where marsec zombies are the most then he tell a guy to go to his last know location and tells him 'we'll find you' he tells a unit to go back to the nearest station..it just seems like he sends everyone to die
I think in most of the game he was an ally , but then he got posessed , he ordered all the marines to regroup to get strenght in numbers , not to mention i think he didn't know about that the security guards turned to zombies , then he tried to get the marine to link to Bravo team cause it would get more firepower and send the message to get the reinforcements but then i guess at some point after we send the message he get posessed by a demon and become the boss
@Imperial Guardsman When Sergeant Kelly is angry at you for not sending the transmission, his radio cuts out. I think that was when he got possessed, or when Betruger corrupted him. Either way, he was turned.
this is your last chance to--- finally he gets cut off sheesh he bugs too much about the transmission that could destroy all of earth and the fleet in this doom game world
I mean, to be fair, that would've been their only call for reinforcements, and it was likely Kelly had some plan to do something to the main portal in Delta 4, given a previous bit of dialog in the level. "MARINE, I believe the source of the invasion was the main portal here in Delta! After you send that transmission, get here as quickly as possible!"
I truly believe Sergeant Kelly was still human during the Demonic invasion and he wanted to get reinforcements because it is a standard protocol procedure in the military hearing his voice was very symbolic I remember being scared and Afraid playing this game and then hearing his voice brought me back to reality to focus on the overall mission great leader "all remaining Marine units this is Sergeant Kelly I am unable to reach Mars City from my current position move to Marine HQ to regroup and await further orders".' this is specialist Wilson my team is gone they're all dead I'm running blind here what are my orders over specialist Wilson this is Sergeant Kelly stay sharp son moved to your last know RP and fortify your position will find you
I like to think that as the game goes on, Kelly gets tired and eventually gets overwhelmed by the demons who corrupted him and transformed him into the tank monster.
@jack masri Remember those red visions during the game? Well, IMHO those are Hell's failed attempts to turn you into a zombie. It's very likely Kelly had similar experiences, and wasn't strong enough. Eventually he got corrupted by the forces of Hell, and became a boss enemy.
