New Doom fans: "Oh cool, we fight a gigantic demon for the final boss." Old Doom fans who've already fought this guy on 3 separate occasions: *"How many times do we have to TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN?!"*
i just wanna give a shoutout to the strongest skyscraper in the world; it withstood the icon of sin's incessant pounding and the weight of doomguy's balls at the same time. props!
Fun Fact: The Icon of Sin was originally supposed to be a Godzilla-sized demon, which would be impossible to do on the Tech 1/Doom engine, so they made it a huge wall instead, due to the limitations that the engine could run. It looks like the developers may have reused that old concept for the Icon of Sin in this game.
@@TheBeastUnleashed87 thats actuslly really cool to think of. They really wanted a huge boss for the start, but couldnt. So now they really wanted to go all out
Personally didn't find this guy too threatening. Even the first knight of hell from doom 3 was far more threatening than this guy xD Then again, doom 3 was especially made to be more horror-like.
Y'know, it makes me wonder if crucible has a "hook" design to the blade for that very reason. So that you can break it off and leave it stuck in there.
@Georgy Davydov maybe , maybe not , but hugo said hes a big fan of mech , worked om deltoro pacific rim and how we saw doom guys own mech under construction ... we also know that he didnt killed the titan with his bare hands , used the crucible to keep them frozen with that argent energy , when removed its like that titan was regenarating . Same thing we saw at the end with icon of sin ..... i feel like next doom game gonna be big with titans and stuff . Kinda like kratos going against multiple titans in gow triology . IOS might even come back , After all icon of sin fight does feel like they took the idea from GOW game . Maybe even use mech as an option ...
Originally I thought Doom Slayer will use the damaged sentinel Mech in the Doom Lair (and fix it in some part before the fight), but Slayer doesn't need it to begin with.
The Slayer should've fought the Icon of Sin butt-naked, but that would be even more unfair. But I've always wanted to see Florida Man rip and tear the devil!
I kinda hope they add a Marauder in the Master Level. Once you get the hang of the fight it becomes mostly just about dodging the Icon's attacks and the Marauder would make it hellish again. Even for someone who's beaten the fight on every difficulty.
I just love that lil zombie ending, just innocently playing with someone" toys without asking for their permission and then the owner shows up, that one is big cliffhanger already. Will Doom Eternal have any DLCs soon? Like Im expecting a new spider mastermind as a mini boss.
The Shieldhero In Doom 2, when you fight the original Icon of Sin, it says a garbled voice line. When you slow it down and reverse it, it says: “You must beat me, John Romero!” John Romero was one of the founders of ID and the director of the game. If you noclipped through the body of the Icon, you would see that it is in fact, John Romero’s head on a spike.
@@santiagozuniga1473 I'm actually legitimately curious as to what comes after Eternal? These new games are basically a remake and a sequel both at the same time but after that no sequel besides Doom 3 that they could follow.
The boss fight is absolutely insane, the most intense one I've had in a while. I was already having doubts, but now I'm 100% certain I'll never be able to finish this game on ultra-nightmare like I did with Doom 2016.
I just beat the game on ultra nightmare and this is an incredibly intense boss fight. Having to fight the Icon while dealing with the demons it spawns is crazy. It's really going to be something to see someone take down this guy on ultra nightmare
Icon of sin: use an armor DoomSlayer: did you know who I am? Icon of sin: why do you think im using an armor? DoomSlayer: that won't protect you Icon of sin: I know... We meet each other a loooong time ago *Doom saga flashbacks* DoomSlayer: oh yea, now I remember you... Ready for the round emm... 53? Icon of sin: just kill me already...
Now this is what a final boss looks like!! I played this on hurt me plenty and man does he push your shit in, literally knocking me off the map in the first phase, so much fun tho! id software have seriously done this game justice and then some!
13:51 i think this is one of the coolest scenes for a video game ending in a long time. This game completely knows what it is. So you see the doom slayer in the end killing the Big baddy and thats it , he admires his work for a second with lighting and thunder flashing behind him , just turns back and walks away. The end
@@thewannabemartialartist4613 Oh its easy to know what to do, the hard part is doing it. Sure its easy to aim at the two torso pecs and arms, but while being constantly bombarded and assaulted by demons make it a tad bit harder since you have to multi-task between hurting the Icon of Sin and making sure you have enough ammo and health to make it through
Piper 9080 idk I just wasn’t that impressed with the how difficult it looked. He was wiping out most of the demons with 1 hit so I feel like they were never really a threat. Now don’t get me wrong it looks fun as HELL but it just didn’t look that tough of a fight. I also really hate that they tell you what to do in the fight. That may be a very small thing to nitpick but I just hate that shit
@@Alex-vp7lm and the betrayer is theorized to be Doomguy aka Doomslayer. Since the betrayer got burried under a temple. Where do we find Doomguy/doomslayer. Trapped inside a burried temple. Everyone fears the protagonist for what the Betrayer had done. And in Doom Eternal when the first Meruader who is a corrupted Night Sentinel speaks to Doomguy/Doomslayer. He says and I quote "You were never one of us. You were a mere urspur. A FALSE idol." Which leans heavy on the betrayer part.
THIS is how you make a last boss, a gigantic imposing demon, i played it on ultraviolence and shit gets intense, can't wait to do him on higher difficulties!
So it was Deag Grav who facilitated the torument and betrayal of Commander Valen. Deag Grav and the demons then took advantage of the Betrayers weakness, for the lost of his son. Told Valen that they could bring his son back. And used Valen's son heart to animate the Icon Of Sin. A titan of pure destruction.
It's actually quite poetic to know that the Icon of Sin was originally supposed to be a gigantic boss, until hardware limitations bogged him down to just a fightable wall
Are we gonna glaze over the fact that a regular gun and- sure, some laser blasters were able to knock out chunks of his body? Whatever guns doom guy is using, the military has to get on that.
I love how despite the size difference, by the end of the battle the Icon of Sin has been ripped to shreds and collapses exhausted and literally unable to fight anymore, and the Doomguy doesn't have a scratch on him.
@@godzillakaijuboy ok, then in that case I would have wanted the Slayer to put the crucible into the bfg 10000 and shoot it like an arrow straight to the Icon's head
I expected something a little more climactic, in fact the icon's design was just plain meh and having it just get electrocuted (or whatever) and falling down, well, that was just crap. Oh well.
It's kinda reminiscent of the final boss fight from Mass Effect 2 but better since you actually have to fight the thing instead of just shooting a couple of portable nukes.
I just finished this game 10 minutes ago. There is an argument to be had about the best FPS campaign ever.... this is right up there. What an adventure
Not to mention the hesitance to use Ballista over Plasma Rifle or Super Shotgun over Combat Shotgun, and basically no use of the micro-missiles which absolutely *melt* the Icon.
I finished Doom Eternal about a week ago and the final boss battle with the Icon of Sin is one of my favorite boss battles based on the atmosphere of the soundtrack and how cool he looks.
This was honestly my favorite boss fight in doom eternal. I think this was more epic than the doom ii icon of sin boss fight. The campaign was very challenging but yet I was satisfied with everything. I think Id software really outdid themselves here.
@Nick Gurr I know fighting a huge demon head on the wall isn't much of a boss fight but I was glad they brought back icon of sin here in doom eternal as an actual demon to defeat.
I don't remember having a fight this INTENSE in years! Had my hearth pumping and my mind at light speed, so much gore and action, so violent, so perfect, when I finished I felt so satisfied. 10/10
Ngl even though this is a doom game I kinda wished the final boss was more cinematic than this. Imagine just chasing the Icon of Sin as you swing across crumbling buildings while swarms of demons spawn in. You have phases but all the while before you can kill the icon you must kill all the demons before you get to the damage phase. And imagine taking on the Icon from feet to head
Yess. I wish this was like fighting those titans In the GoW series. You keep climbing up the monster to land the killing blow. This fight was basically Doom 2 boss fight remastered, but the Icon is out of his wall but still there in front of you like a wall to be hit. Still a fun fight though.
Im trying to beat this on nightmare without sentinel armor, and I have to say this boss fight is so frustrating and just so much bs. It feels more like luck than actual skill when you actually manage to make any progress against the boss. This is just my opinion tho
Now while in Doom 2 the Icon of Sin was just a wall texture, sometime in 2013 (before both of the Doom reboots were released) however, a famous Doomer who goes by the name, SgtMarkIV did created a mod for Doom 2 that replaces the original Icon of Sin with the giant monster version of it, similar to what we see here. This Doom 2 mod is called “Real Icon of Sin” and SgtMarkIV made this mod the same reason why ID Software had the Icon of Sin here be a giant monster which is that the Icon of Sin in Doom 2 wasn’t originally going to be a wall texture but had to use the wall texture instead because of limitations at the time of the creation of Doom 2. The real Icon of Sin mod is playable on modern source ports of the classic Doom such as ZDoom-type source ports as these source ports have a lot less limitations than DOS.
unsettling fact: the icon of sin cannot actually die, the only option to 'kill' it is by using the crucible which is a sleeping pill for a titan that will go in slumber. if the crucible blade is removed, they will reawaken once more. just proves that the titans in doom are immortal.
