Is it possible Hayden forgot he was Seraphim? Just like when Vega was plugged into that machine and quoted “I see now, I am The Father?” As though Vega forgot who he was, is it possible as time passed the Seraphim forgot who he actually was?
@@icedtea3347 It feels jarring as hell tho. In doom 2016 Hayden knows very little about hell, yet all of a sudden he knows everything in doom eternal? Maybe him being exposed to the crucible helped him to remember? IMO it was a dumb idea to have Hayden and the seraphim be the same person
@@LivedLegna it was a live that someone said hugo said this is the end of the samuel arc because you fight him and now the father took him so thats it, the ancient gods pt 2 is we will fight the darklord
@FELIPE Augusto how can you say Hayden wasn't all that bad, he had a hand in the invasion of earth, not to mention throwing shade at the slayer at the end of 2016 remember? All those dead people he literally has blood on his hands and in the DLC turns into a demon but apparently "he ain't that bad" lmao
So all this time he was pushing for humanity to use Argent, it was all to further The Father's original plan? Even to the point of *betraying* Doomguy, the one being this all centers about.. bloody hell, literally.
Seraphim: "Your gifts are owed to us now!" Doom Slayer: *unf* Seraphim: "kay you can keep them" Hey guys, be sure to leave a like and share this video to push it through recommendations. Have a good day!
The Doom Slayer himself knew, allow the Father to be resurrected and save Samur’s life but preventing him from killing the Dark Lord, or crush the Father’s sphere and fulfilling his goal, but leaving Samur to his ultimate fate. The Doom Slayer may have even showed signs of hesitations when he was about to finish off the transfigured Samur, he was slowly lifting his arm-blade, and he is never slow. A tragedy indeed.
@@bro89174 that was pretty obvious. The hell priest was bound to be killed by Doom Slayer. Samur was just desperately standing in his way to save his own life.
And I do not think he was necessarily slow when killing the hell priest. He was just pointing his super shotgun and shot him until he heard enough of his rant.
Skynet vs Hell... Robots vs an unrelanting army of demons that never stop until the flesh from your bones is between their teeth.... nah, I'll still with Doomguy, an immortal demigod
Samuel Hayden: "Its really a great honor to be blessed by the seraphim, he is a very wise and noble being. I might add that he is strikingly handsome as well" I'm kind of sad that we wont be seeing more samuel/samur, I really enjoyed RESOOOOOOOOOOLVEing conflicts with him.
Omg the nostalgia for Doom 2016 hits hard. To this day, I still don’t understand why he said it like that. “Resooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolve this problem in a way that benefits us both.”
So Samur was first a maykr, who then landed on Earth in a human body (later in his life getting cancer), then transferred his consciousness into the UAC robot body??
Form the way Samuel acts in Doom 2016 and even Eternal, it feels like the human personality was separate from Samur, it was only after he got ripped apart that Samur started resurfacing which is why Sammy now had info he couldn't have before. It was only the transfer back into his original body that all of Samuel Hayden seems to have been purged which also detached him from humanity. Then it was all about saving his own hide with none of Samuel's noble intention left, so tragic.
I think they just originally had a different plan for sam in 2016, one where he was just a regular dude in a robot body, which got thrown out the window during the development of Eternal.
@@UNATCO Interesting interpretation. I hope this will be explained/expanded upon in Part 2, or in DOOM Eternal's sequel somehow (through the Codex maybe? Idk). Samuel/The Seraphim is such an interesting character (imo). I'd hate for this to go on unexplained like it is.
I like to think that ANCIENT GODS aren’t canon. To me after the slayer killed icon of sin he plays doom 1 and 2 in his fortress of doom with samuel hayden telling him all the level secrets
Argent Energy = Hell Essence (derived from mortal souls) + Sentinel Essence/Energy (derived from wraiths) Argent Energy is basically one of the energies of life itself and the tech to manipulate life energies, the Maykrs are quite proficient in.
I like characters like Samuel hayden. Characters that had to guide and/or lead humanity developing them to be all that they can be. Raiden from mortal Kombat and gandalf from Lord of the Rings also had underwent similar under takings. Characters like this go to extreme lengths to achieve their goals and face some of the toughest decisions to make which takes them to a thin grey line between good and evil. They encourage the audience to think deeply about the bigger picture and what they might have done if they were in their shoes. This makes them all the more admirable.
Hugo, please, dont take Hayden from us! Bring him back sometime in the future! Im still wanting to know when are we going to get a new quake sequel tho D:
@@trashbeast I don't think transfiguration is death like we think about it. I think it's transformation into a mutated and mad thing. More like a death of who you were and much worse. They are immortal after all.
i think Samur killed samuel hayden, the leader of the UAC, and took over his persona in order to infiltrate it. he then created a lie that hayden discovered how to transfer his own consciousness into a machine, but it was actually Samur. i remember in the doom 2016 lore it was mentioned that Hayden changed immensely when his consciousness was transferred
The seraphim did a fucky wucky owo, so he became samuel so he could work a lot closer with the slayer Uwu so together they could work and resoooooolve this situation.
Sammy was too tall in Doom 2016, even taller than the Slayer, I knew he was a complicated character with almost no lore at the point he was created and would become a villain in a future Doom game.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 Dude is at least 6'4" outside of armour in Doom 2016 and Eternal. Maybe in the original MS-DOS Doom he/his counterpart was 6'0" (I did see a splash screen of 'Doom Guy' being 6'0" in Quake Arena) but most definitely not the modern rendition.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 I've taken that into account, I was just giving a perspective of the actual height disparity and speculating. I've seen somewhere that he's 6'8" in full armour, probably 6'6" at the very tallest out of armour, but I'll admit that's speculation. If we can go by other prominent ostensibly superpowered characters in full-bodied super armour like Marvel's 'Iron Man' (who's 6'1" out of armour and 6'6" in armour according to Marvel's database last time I checked) we can speculate it's probably a similar situation with the Doom Slayer, just take an inch or so.
I didn't really like Samuel's story, from a scientist willing to do anything to get the job done to help humanity, even sacrifice his own super AI (now The Father), to a crucial member of Earth's resistance, to an egotistical seraphim that was just following the Father's orders
I do have a theory that the Samuel we see in 2016 is not the same character as the one in eternal, and the real human Samuel is somewhere else, or dead. I believe if they want an actual unexpected plot twist, they could make Samuel *not* the seraphim
I kinda liked the reveal of Hayden being the Seraphin because after you explaining that he seems to have more of a character arc than just being known as the "I am not the villain of this story, I do what I do because there is no choice" funny robot man
But they kinda retcon the lore making him seraphim because in 2016 he stole the crucible and likes argent energy and wouldn’t even help Doom now in the next game it’s all cool? Doom would’ve rip and tear him limb from limb next time they met up
Fun fact: In doom 2016 on the research faclity before entering the level with the cyberdemon Theres a portrait of a man named HIS name at the bottom of the stair when entering the level. I remember that when his human corpse is dying, their team have built his robot body to prevent his souls from like evaporate from his human life. Plus in Eternal in Urdak, we found that theres humans shape but they are at stage of a phetus but in adult size I belive that my theory is right
Hugo confirmed that Samur is still alive, but that his Transfiguration is still in progress, and that he will eventually turn into a Cthulu-like monster (as all Maykrs will now that the Father can't save them). So even if Samur does return, it's safe to say that Samuel Hayden is definitely a thing of the past.
It's not "all good stuff", he also messed with the demons and called them to Earth. He is directly responsible for what they did. I mean seriously, there's SO many energy solutions that don't involve rituals to go to hell and syphon the tortured souls of the damned. I mean think long term. That energy, the energy he wanted humans to use, REQUIRED demons to invade and kill and eternally torture beings on worlds, forever, to be sustainable. He also didn't seem to be particularly bothered by the lives lost as he explained how it was "worth it". Frankly, he was awful even before returning to his original body. In any case, this does explain it. Simply put, he put himself in a human body to avoid being discovered and hunted down by the Kahn Maykr, who considered him a traitor. With her dead, he had no reason not to return to his original form. However, I do have one criticism. I didn't get to fight Optimus. I wanted to punch a robot devil, not just another Maykr. Well, he's still out there. Maybe he'll build an even better robo-angel body for us to fight next time! Just one thing. Doomguy was already a powerful badarse BEFORE Sammy enhanced him with the god machine. Samur takes full credit for "creating" doomguy, but all he did was turn him into the Slayer. Doomguy wrecked and ruined Hell's plans 5 times BEFORE becoming the Slayer, and he was already fast enough to outrun his own rockets THEN. Samur, thanks for those gifts, but seriously do you think I was trash before you met me?
You completely forgot that the rituals were carried out by the UAC cultists, not Samuel Hayden. Olivia Pierce was the one who pushed for the rituals. Samuel Hayden had no idea she'd go crazy and form a satanic cult.
You got it wrong. First of all the reason he wanted to go to Hell was to get the doom slayer. He didnt go there or opened any portals to hell to syphon out argent from there that happened naturally on mars, its why he built the facility on mars, to syphon the energy from the breach and oversee its usage because he knew mankind would fuck it up (and they did) without help. Also argent energy contains the souls of the damned because argent is part sentinel energy and part hell energy and its the hell part that contains the souls which leads me to my next point. Remember that samuel had energy filters in the mars base to make argent safe to use and it had red energy going in and blue coming out? What other energy is blue? Sentinel. They never really confirmed it but Im pretty sure samuel was taking out the hell energy out of argent which makes it pure sentinel energy which is nice and safe and doesnt have any souls in it. Also before the ending of DOOM 2016 the demons had acess to The Well which accelerated the build up of hell energy which meant more argent energy as long as the maykrs and sentinels kept making sentinel energy. But the slayer shuts down The Well which forced Samuel to take the demonic Crucible away from him and eventually (my speculation) the Khan Maykr to invade Earth for more Hell essence to prevent her transfiguration through argent And so what if he used argent? What do you think the ballista fires? The doom slayer is willing to use it to achieve his goals the same way that samuel is willing to use to save mankind. Hes a super intelligent beeing created directly by God, if he says theres no other way to solve the energy crysis then there isnt one
Invasion by hell was being prepared long time ago by three hell priests also with cooperation by that litle girl from mars (That got betrayed and killed, woohoo!) Dont forget that north of earth was full of burried ancient warriors connected with other worlds.
The one thing that's consistent about Samuel is that he will do anything to make Hell lose, or at least not become the dominant power in the universe. He went against all tradition and sanctions to turn Doomguy into the Slayer which broke the Siege of Taras Nabad, he made off with the Father to keep the corrupt Maykrs from getting their hands on him, and he basically went undercover as a human to prepare humanity against Hell and to get the Slayer out of his prison in Hell. Don't forget that, Samuel went WAY out of his way to get the Slayer out of Hell, because he knew that he was the best weapon to use against Hell. Once 2016 starts and the Slayer is freed, he continually assists the Slayer to stop Hell's incursion. Samuel took the Crucible because it has Argent Energy, and he needs that to reinforce Humanity. Fast forward to Eternal after Sammy got rekt in battle and got backed up to the Slayer's fortress, he helps the Slayer stop the Khan Makyr from assimilating Earth. He helps humanity because those are the Slayer's people, and the best way to create a kind of association with the Slayer and to give the Slayer motivation. Samuel NEEDS the Slayer in play to win. Now the Ancient Gods is when we see a shift in his priorities, so far it seemed like he wanted Humanity to prosper, but that coincides with wanting Hell stopped no matter what. Hell has taken over Urdak, and that has shifted the balance of power way in their favor. Samuel's plan was to restore The Father and The Father would restore balance to the universe, thus Hell doesn't take over everything. Has the slight upside of also saving Samuel from Transfiguration. Slayer has a different plan to stop Hell: resurrect the Dark Lord and kill him. Hell would be as strong as ever, but if they are vanquished in that moment, they are vanquished forever. And he's fucking Doomguy, you already know what he's going to choose. Samuel cannot abide this, as this leaves him and The Father left out to dry. Plus, Samuel thinks if the Dark Lord is resurrected, not even the Slayer could stop him, which means game over. That's why Samuel stands in the Slayer's way. These two characters have had an alliance full of disagreement from the very beginning, so it being resolved by a fight where Slayer obviously wins but spares Samuel (tho sparing him to a fate of Transfiguration is pretty rough) is the natural way for the arc to end. I think they could have done a much better job tying it all together. I think all the points are there, all the reasons Sammy does what he does, but they're not tied together, they seem alien from each other. His actions as Hayden and helping humanity and as the Seraphim and restoring the Father seem like two different people, but they share the same goal of defeating Hell. However, Samuel has different priorities and is willing to make different sacrifices from the Slayer, which is where the conflict arises.
I'll say this again, Samuel from 2016 was a man of his own accord. Didn't fear the slayer. I don't like how they turned him into a boi in eternal. He had some solid story. They should have let him have his glory or atleast die with that stubborn will. Samuel 2016 > Seraphim 2020. Seraphim began spitting words like "If I had not created you.","where would all this be", "our gift". it's just rubbish. A being like the seraphim had a calm voice when it said "They are rage. Brutal. Without mercy. But you. You'll be worse. Rip and tear. Until it is fine." It's a blessing. It shows his divinity without the need to assert. Here in 2020 with that fry voice he's stubborn and that makes him look like a mortal. He literally stepped down from his own grandeur. Samuel 2016 had attitude. "I do what I do because there is no choice." Anyone who can stand up to the slayer is a major worthy character. The best part is Samuel is more closer to human than Seraphim. Humans are still badass. Egotistical humans driven by their own desire are far greater for than some god who's crying about Slayer taking the Father's power and how he has to owe it back.
@@j.dviant but King Novik has nothing to do with us being on Mars right? When we are locked inside the coffin with the mark of the slayer, it just sounds relatable for it to be the Seraphim since the voice is actually the same guy as the one who voiced Hayden if I'm not wrong.
@@vinomsnake im pretty sure the guy in the intro to 2016 is not hayden. Sounds nothing like him. It is basically revealed to be king novik in eternal who the person is in the intro to 2016
Samuel becomes cocky because he is affected by transfiguration or he is always cocky. Whatever the reason, he gets to his senses after getting crushed under slayer boots
I hate how id software completely ruined the story like that. They should've kept samuel hayden as a human cyborg and vega as an artificial intelligence. There was no reason for the doom universe to have its own god. Doom 2016's lore was good, Eternal's was kinda good, But the dlc took the lore WAY too far. I hate that.
yup as much is i will forever love doom games, i will just think the lore of the eternal dlcs just didnt happen. after killing icon of sin, he just went onto a big sleep and thats it. no evil doomguy copypaste and no "seraphym/father" ruining samuel and vega
@@jumpbreak99 or, if you're like me: The Doom Slayer is eternally killing demons in hell after having killed the dark lord, who is not the creator of the multiverse, neither is he an exact copy of Doomguy, he's just another a big demon with big guts, but a bit bigger this time. And also the Doom Slayer still has his original Praetor suit because it looks better imo and it makes more sense lore-wise.
Is this the end of the doom franchise with hell’s leader finally being defeated will The Doomslayer become the king of hell and rule with an iron fist.
I think what will happen is that the doomslayer kills hell’s leader and leaves it for good. Leaving hell to cave in on itself, eating itself alive until nothing of hell is left. Hope that made sense. I really want to see hell destroyed for good, in real life and in the game. Which would bring the doom franchise to an official conclusion story wise. The fans will continue to bring new user generated content to the game whenever they decide to get that up and running in eternal. This was a story that was 27 years in the making after all. I think it’s time to officially conclude it.
@@chonkycat841 your right, I forgot about that. Well then that means more doom for us. Which is a good thing. Yeah my thought of thinking it should end after this was a pretty dumb one now. Yep very stupid take on my part.
@@cwp24 Well I mean your suggestion is pretty likely. It would make sense to have an epic boss fight where you have a 1v1 with the dark lord and kill hell. Maybe, however, since there's a multiverse, there are other versions of hell. With infinite universes, the possibilities are... Eternal.
@@MP-li2yk okay, that makes sense. I’m right, it will be end of THIS particular universe. But we would have others start as well once that one is concluded.

The thing that annoys me a bit is that Seraphim is a plural. I always assumed that Hayden was a Seraph, part of the Seraphim. It's a bit triggering hearing this misuse of grammar constantly.
MIDNIGHT, I got a theory!!!! In the beginning of Ancient Gods part 2, we'll have a boss fight with Davoth. The boss fight will be purposefully unfair, and your supposed the lose the fight. Once you lose, a cutscene plays where Davoth is beating the crap out of the Doom Slayer. He beats him so hard, Doomguy's helmet breaks and we can see his bloody face. Before Davoth kills Doomguy, Internguy teleports the slayer back to the Arc Carrier. The Doom Slayer is furious that he lost the fight to Davoth. Suddenly, The Seraphym appears and scolds the Slayer for his reckless actions. He explains that Hell is more powerful than it's ever been, and now that Davoth is resurrected and in control of Urdak, the multiverse is at stake. Samur Makyr's rage is at full force. Samur also explains he collected all the life spheres at Ingmores Sanctum, and the Slayer needs to absorb each life sphere to gain enough power to destroy Davoth. The Slayer needs to acquire a certain paranormal item that will allow him to absorb the life spheres. I really want Davoth to win in the fight because usually, the Doom Slayer usually wins against all his enemies. Doomguy losing will give the story more of an importance, and ultimately will be a more interesting storyline. If Doomguy wins every fight, it's gonna be kinda boring. Tell me if you like my theory!!!!!!!
@@simonsenaviev7541 Yeah, but that's kinda lame. If he's immortal, It really doesn't matter what he does because he'll always survive. Him being able to die raises the stakes.
Wow your teory is great. But I think that the fight between Davoth and Doomsalyer maybe should take place in the end of DLC 2. The Doomslayer is unprepeared and loses the fight (but not die). Then Davoth resurrects the other hell gods in the sanctum of Ignmore. So, in DOOM 3 we have to hunt those gods and kill them. Then go for Davoth. Maybe the fight ends with Davoth and the Doomslayer both dead, and the humanity saved. Something like GOW3
@@ligma6496 Kratos doesn't die in GoW3(assuming that's what you meant), though. He was severely weakened when he stabbed himself with the blade of Olympia, which is why he isn't nearly as strong in GoW4 as he was in the previous games.
Wait i have a question seraphim (samuel hayden) wants to destroy hell and dark lord, then in boss fight with doomguy why did he took help of demons🤔to kill our doomguy
You know, who was the third maykr? You see 3 maykrs in the scene when steven marine (the doomslayer) is putted back to rest. Vega the father, Seraphim and a third one. Who was that?
Those weren't Vega and Samur, Vega is still an AI even if he is in Urdak and Samuel fall into transportation. Those 3 Maykrs are likely just random guys that were loyal to the Father (Vega), at best they were same Maykrs that helped with the resurrection of the Dark Lord.
All I want is to meet the Doom 3 marines (Lost mission,ROE and the real campaign)And also he will be alive if he wasn’t killed by demons, because he would be a couple of years old,he would still be alive if he didn’t get overwhelmed by the demons
This is a " What If " . What if there are other Devoths out there in other dimensions that are waiting for this guy to Kick the Bucket and then take his place.
He went on a mad one in hell and they couldn't beat him so they managed to trick him and seal him away in a tomb....now that I think about it why didn't hell kill him??
I think his original robo-body got destroyed as we saw in the main story, which couldnt be repaired because it's of alien (maykr) design. thats why he stayed as a vega replacement for the final act of the campaign and for some of the ancient gods until he was returned to the seraphim body
considering that his OG body is still technically in the Slayer's fortress half destroyed and that this DLC probably takes place not too long after the main campaign, I assume that there was no time for a new body and besides that the human scientist mentioned when you were picking up Hayden's left over body, that it's "too alien" for them. Second of all is he probably had to switch back to his body for some reason.
wait wait wait if no maykr could enter hell, then how did samur put the 2 life spheres in ingmore's sanctum in the blood swamps (i.e. in hell) in the first place?
Not to be THAT guy but I really liked Samuel Hayden (if you abbreviate his name you get S. Hayden which sounds vaguely like Satan - funny coincidence!). This entire robot but with human intelligence thing and the way he calmly talked to you even though he should be pissed out of his mind over you basically destroying all his work in 2016 was super interesting. And now he's seemingly this transfiguring alien angel who was there since the beginning of time. I mean yeah lore wise it makes sense how he knew so much about Hell being the Seraphim and all. I just enjoyed his overall design as a robot more. That plus his voice lines as robo-guy were just so much more entertaining than his declining self as a Maykr. I'm not gonna say "wasted potential" or anything. I couldn't do as good a job as id Software writing the story to be fair. But I miss the *RESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLVE* I got when talking to Dr. S. Hayden. :(
In doom 2016 and Doom eternal samuel hayden was exactly as he is written “man born from wealthy family, head of mars UAC, discovered hell portal” in Ancient Gods they erased everything they knew and said “heyy what if we made samuel hayden into an angel and made VEGA the AI into the god, i dont care if doom story doesnt make sense now”
So since the doom slayer and the devil look the same, and the father says “he’s their version of you” does that mean that the doom slayer is earths primeval (earths god) and that’s why he’s so feared and powerful
I have a question: What are the little orbs on the mountain where the life sphere of the father and of the dark lord were being held? Are those life spheres of lesser gods or something completely different? (Sorry for any mistakes)
Intersting that we also learn on the origins of hell, I guess he also brought him back to help kill the khan maker because he knew that she was being corrupted amd needed to be removed to save other dimensions from the makers treachery
Am I the only one that hopes this doesn't end as a simple 5 minute boss fight where we kill Davoth and gg all is gravy, I really hope they give this story a cool end.
Many had theorized this due to seeing Samur's (shrouded; face obscured/untextured or not even modelled) head, removing the hood, and seeing the similarities of it and Samuel Hayden's machine-head. I was among those who took note.
@@koldraxonofthefirstseven5718 I don't know about the other's seeing the model but I take that as one of the reasons they're the same, but somebody theorized that they're goal is almost the same like "What if Samur is helping DoomGuy to kill the demons and before that, The Seraphim have done it too by giving him godlike powers" and here we are, they're the same
@@AsPlayBox They also spoke similar or had very similar lines of dialogue that caused the speculation - namely ones regarding gifts (Divinity Machine and when Samuel Hayden gives the Slayer a sample of Argent energy for his Praetor suit).
2 scenarios: 1. They resurrect the father and he seals hell, but eventually Davoth returns as bith Samur and the Father were incompetent at keeping hell controlled before. From this point everything could go down to hell or the Father finally lets the Slayer kill Davoth. 2. The Slayer beats the shit out of Samur for stepping in his way but doesn't destroy the Father sphere. Davoth could find the Father and absorb his power, so it was dangerous to keep it, but if he doesn't find it and The Slayer manages to defeat him, little would change except that there's the possibility that someone else resurrects the Father and saves the Maykrs. Samur and the Father wanted to rule over the universe, they seem to deeply love earth even over Urdak, for some reaso. They would come and raise a cult for themselves in a Argent D'nur fashion, but instead of the corrupt Khan Maykr, the "wise" Father. The problem is that they were both incompetent at containing hell and they would probably make the same mistakes.
if samuel haden knew the slayer well enough he would know the slayer will not do what you tell him to do the slayer does what the slayer wants and if that happens to be what you wanted thats your fault
Did anyone else notice that the Earth is destroyed in the Holt? In the pinky blood punch room at the end the earth has been split apart (facing Asia)... I think Samur did something before meeting us in the Luminarium.
So I was playing UAC atlanta today, and when I dived into the water, instead of trying to find my way in I looked around... There is a big tentacle monster coming out of the seafloor eating a ship, I love doom

Hayden is probably the seraphim, because when you entered to the holt and see seraphim, he would say "hes the one who gave you power" even though he never had hayden back then when he went into the divinity machine.
