DOOM PATROL (Morrison! Way! The Show! The Comics!) 

I will never forget when I lent a friend of mine my "Doom Patrol" trades and when he gave them back he said: "This guy Grant Morrison ain't a story teller, he's a drug-dealer and he's trying to get me hooked-up on some mushrooms mixed with pesticide or something".

I 🖤 the Grant Morrison Run and the Show . And the Current run from Young Animal . I enjoy the Strange and weird for Weirdness sake.

I just read-as you put it-most of Doom Patrol, and now that there's no more comics left, I'm glad I have season two of the show to look forward to. I'm really upset the comic was cancelled-again!-while the show's going!

Doom Patrol has inadvertently become a major touchstone on multiple fronts for me this year! Its the reason I got to know more about you guys through the live stream book club AND befriend some great people online (Sam Anderson, Tevya Smolka, etc)! The show also managed to save my DC Universe subscription because after the abortion that is Titans I was this close to cancelling! If you cannot tell, I hated (still hate) Titans with a “passion borne not of words, but of deeds!” (FFA-Future Farmers of America in-joke) I was beyond wary of Doom Patrol after they were introduced in Titans but it was one of the best tv series of the year, NOT just comic book based shows, & deserves so many more eyes on it! Thankfully it was renewed for season 2 AND it, along with most of the DC Universe content will be on HBO MAX when it streams so hopefully others will get into it then. I do agree that the entire live action slate of DC Universe has been beyond sophomoric in its use of “no rating”. Every other word on Titans & Doom Patrol is an out of place swear, SHIT & FUCK being the most ubiquitous. DCU is the epitome of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”. Luckily Doom Patrol is a quality show so the adolescent swearing isn’t as obvious but Titans feels & sounds like it was created by a 12yr old that just learned to curse & thinks uber violence & sex is “mature & edgy”. I truly hope Doom Patrol flourishes from this point forward cause its crazy how much “unfilmable” stuff they pulled right out of the comics & made work! We got scenes of giant floating man eating asses & that wasn’t even the weirdest part of that episode! Lmao! No one reading Morrisons DP back in the 90s could or would imagine this show ever existing, it’s just brilliant! Cheers to you guys for making this class cutting “jock” do the reading on Doom Patrol! Kinda glad that nerd Sam didn’t do my homework for me! 😜🥂👍🏾

Always thought I wouldn't be into doom patrol. The first volume was recently on amazon for free and I loved it. Its just so unique, need to get the omni now

Doom Patrol is what got me into comics. Completely by chance too. There were a ton of grant morrisons comics in a big blind box I bought at a comic store. It really blew me away. so funny, so absurd, and very adult at times too. From dealing with Crazy Jane's sexual abuse to the loss of identity with Cliff not accepting Rebis' new personality, it was a real rollercoaster of manic absurdity and emotional characterization development beats. I think the inclusion of Cyborg was a real treat in the show too. At first I didn't think he would fit into "the strangeness" but once they deep dive into his background, he really fits with them as a "broken individual"... even if he has more motivation and ambition than the rest of the Doom Patrol in the beginning of the series.

Milk wars is an amazing comic guys you don't need to read the other young animal books

I'm in the same boat as you guys, i tried the Young Animal run and then i got the Morrison collections read them enjoyed them a bit and then went back to the Young Animal first trade and enjoyed it a lot more with the context. Haven't gotten book two yet but i might this week after watching this episode. Favorite character for me has to be Danny

Titans was on Netflix, really been hoping this would turn up there too.

Great video guys! I'm so happy one of my favorite teams ever (and one of the things I love the most from all American comics) is having such a resurgence. (Also I can't recommend enough the other stuff from the Young Animal pop-up, every series is a banger. Those books have such a peculiar, original flavor... really one of the best things to come out of the big 2 in a while)

My girlfriend enjoyed all of this too and this could've been huge.

This video really reminds me of why they're my favorite team in comics. Seems like you guys came around on a lot of the things you weren't sure how you felt about during the read-along which is great! Also, Doom Patrol had a lot of guest artists in their history, you guys got a favorite? For me, it's Jamie Hewlett.

I watched the video until the end. And then, out of nowhere, I was like " Wait what are you wearing ? Hahahha

I think there must be something very wrong with me, because I have never understood word one of anything that came from Grant Morrison's pen. (or, indeed, typing finger). Everything he's ever written that I've read has just gone WAY over my head, and I know it must be me, because everybody else totally RAVES about him! I mean, the other enfants terribles of The British Invasion and thereafter, like Ennis, Ellis, Delano, Milligan et al, I CAN get with, but with Morrison, I always struggle and end up bitter, twisted and resentful, thinking - this MUST be a case of Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome! Am I wrong? Does ANYONE else feel this way?? Huh???

I enjoyed Grant Morrison’s run but there’s a stretch in the middle with those inter-dimensional insects / kaleidoscope people. It just went nowhere and as it’s happening you know it’s not going to be of any consequence. It’s a shame they cancelled the recent printing of Rachel Pollack’s run especially considering she’s one of the first trans writers/introduces one of the first trans characters in comics.

I only like Robot-man and Mr Nobody, the rest are waaay too woke
