Yeah. It's really less of a betrayal and more of a "I'm-giving-you-a-head-start" type of thing.

You know you're OP when the robot holding a demon lightsaber says he "can't kill you".

I wouldn't say Samuel betrayed the Doom slayer he just didn't want him on Mars so he sent him back to hell to fight even more Demons

I thought Samuel will say "Did you got the sword?" "Good, that's one less loose end." and stab Doomguy.

Samuel Hayden was one of my favorite things in this game. Unbelievably badass. The lore texts about him that you find are insane, definitely worth a read.

The moment he was betrayed is the moment he decides to unleash hell in hell.

To be fair he's right, he wasnt the villain. Samuel is just a guy who got caught up in someone else's shit. (Olivia's plan to use the Argent energy to open the gates to Hell.) He was only using Hell's unlimited energy to help fuel research and to provide a clean source of power for Earth's technology. Obviously the UAC isn't full of saints but Hayden was somewhat a diamond in the rough. Cool guy I guess

Play eternal and you will find out who hayden really is and he had a good reason to take the crucible from him

This was the closest someone got to defeating the doom slayer. And still being alive.

When I first saw this I thought the crucible hilt was upside down. It just seems weird to have the bottom of it bigger than the top for a sword like that

This guy is a better Ultron than Ultron was

I like how Hayden fully realizes that in betraying the Doom Slayer, the only chance he has is putting as much distance between him and the Slayer as possible, and then pray.

I personally liked this ending way more than Eternal, including the DLC's. The fact that we still haven't found out where Hayden sent the Slayer after DOOM 2016 is really disappointing.

So we don’t really know what happened from this point till doom eternal starts. Maybe they will release single player content to show us how doom guy escaped hell and came back for Hayden?

When you realize Samuel doesn’t actually say “Alright buddy, I’m going to sh*t yourself” *My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined*

I don't think it was a betrayal, it was more of a "hey, you have something that I need" moment.

I really preferred this Hayden to where they went with the character in Eternal. They clearly changed their mind about what they wanted him to be.

I love that Hayden's speech sounds a little like the og Doom victory text, especially the first part: "You've won. It's over. You stopped the invasion and closed the portal. But it's come at a price..."

When we saw Doomguy's hands shake at 1:35 I thought he was gonna bust outta there and rip Samuel in half.

I have no doubts that Samuel is a villan, but I can't help but respect his commitment, dude finds a world full of creatures and and energy beyond any human's understanding and decides he is gonna exoloit it like an oil well

I gotta say I love where they have taken the doom story and how they have given us enough pieces through free dlc for the much older games to connect the original trilogy with the newest set of games and they just keep upping the anti and I love it so much

Technically, the Doomguy was spitting in Samuel's face the entire game, why wouldn't he betray him? lol

I like how the opening to his monologue reads like an intermission from the original doom.

I like the idea that the “I won’t have you standing in our way.” And the “Until we see each other again.” Go hand in hand, like Hayden is saying that he won’t or can’t kill you until the next time they run into each other

The fact that the ending was the betrayal what a great way to end a game

To the common man, being sent to hell was the worst thing Hayden could do to anyone normal. But to Doomguy, it was paradise.

I don't know what it is, but there is something about his monologue that I really enjoy and always come back to from time to time. Sometimes even repeating it with myself. Really ccol!

Man it really sucks that ID didn't stick with the lightning in a bottle that is 2016. I guess I'm the minority here but Eternal just loses all seriousness and frankly looks like shit. It's just such a damned shame that they took such a massive step down when they already had a fantastic story with fantastic writing, fantastic gameplay, and a fantastic artstyle.

The thing I love about Samuel. He isn't a villain. It's not just a perspective thing, he legitimately isn't the bad guy. He started this operation by stealing energy from hell, and turned it into an infinite energy source. And he is right, without that, it would be worse. I mean, the fallout universe tells us what happens to a world running out of oil. Its war. With the destruction of "The well" there is no more infinite energy he can siphon. Unfortunately the well now powers the invasion portal. But the crucible seems to be an infinite energy source, and the object that can destroy the well, so it's a solution to both problems. And let's be honest, Doomguy would have never handed it over, he would just use it as a weapon to rip and tear. Samuel and Doomguy are both Good guys, Doomguy is trying to kill an external threat and Samuel is trying to stop humanity from destroying themselves. This is made even more clear with Eternal's lore on the ARK. Samuel shows up and almost immediately constructs an armada. I think his only 2 failures are: not detecting Olivia sooner, and failing to realize how quickly the Khan Maker would react to the well's destruction.

the ending of DOOM 2016 was S+ TIER

I miss when Samuel was just a human brain in a robot and not a demon seraphim. Mainly because I feel like haveing every character in a story be closely connected to the main character infuriating.

Then in Enternal they just said "F this villain, we'll just make him destroyed and Doomguy will toss him on the floor".

I want to play at Samuel Hayden in Doom Eternal campaign DLC I want to see the backstory here and how he was destroyed as in half his body gone As well as being able to use the Demonic Crucible

I honestly thought samuel would of been a boss in eternal he has the perfect setup: The bulletproof body the crucible honestly would of been a pretty cool boss fight
