Bloody hell 7 stone! That's a hell of an achievement mate. Nice one! Interesting list, I had PL fairly low on mine as I felt there were stronger releases musically this year. Dont get me wrong it's an awesome album. Draconian was on of their darkest yet for me. Certainly agree with there not being big riffs anymore. Suppose we have Doom VS for that. Great video, looking forward to the next one and seeing a fellow UK guitarist in a band doing the RU-vid thing. 🤘
Doom VS had an album out in 2020? I missed that! I discovered your channel the other day actually! Watched your top albums of 2020 videos, so I'm aware of where you put Paradise Lost. I can understand your reasons! I like the content, keep up the good work!
@@thegothicviking1388 no I wish. Just those 3 albums by him trump his main band. To me, he kept all the best riffs for that project. Thanks for checking out my stuff. 🤘🍺🤘
@@TheDeathDoomMetalHead Ahh I see! Didn't realise the connection between the 2 bands until now. always love learning stuff like this! Thanks for sharing. I will have to re-listen to those Doom:VS albums soon!
The more I think about it, the more I think I should've put it higher. It came out quite late in the year, so it didnt get a chance to truly burrow into my ears before the year was up
Good list man - you're right about Finntxfroll - it's a good album but I kinda wish there was MORE knowing that it took so flipping long! Checking out Igorrr, Romuvos, Dawn of Solace, Sunken too as a result of this video. Fuck you are right about Countless Skies "Glow" sounding VERY similar to other bands...... not a bad thing but VERY similar.... derivative maybe? Good - definitely. Saw them at Warhorns 2019 and look forward to seeing them again. Tis a great album for sure.
Let me know what you think of Igorrr, Romuvos, Dawn of Solace and Sunken! Although Countless Skies wear their influences on their sleeve, their overall sound and combination of influences makes for a unique experience. I also always want more Finntroll, but best to keep us ravenous and wanting more than to pump out album after album of mediocre material I guess!
I finally got a chance to watch this video! I've got to say I'm really grateful for your video as I've barely listened to anything new (or old) this year... Two reasons: a new family member and, sadly, a degrading hearing. I've only listened to the UtA album in your list but didn't find it as engaging as their previous one. Igorrr are such a weird band, I've not checked out their material in a long time and so I'm looking forward to hearing this one. I'll check out the rest of the records when I can for sure. Not enough to make a top 10 but here's what I loved last year: Sometimes We Make Music - Trail of the Fallen Falconer - From a Dying Ember Memories of Old - The Zeramin Game
I enjoyed Falconer and Memories of Old. Not heard of the other one. Will have to check it out! Igorrr are magnificently bizarre. I love them! It's weird without feeling pretentious
@@thegothicviking1388 Let me know what you think of Sometimes They Make Music (STMM). Such a weird name for a metal band that I almost dismissed them at first when I saw the review, but the album cover was just too good so I had to check them out and I'm glad I did. One of my favourite Igorrr songs is actually a remix by The Algorithm (another French artist mixing electro and metal, though much more straightforward than Igorrr). It's a pretty simple song but I love its broken flow. Caros: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kNOen3mc9dw.html
@@yannattack5971 I thought the same about the name! Kind of off putting... but I will take your word for it!! No way, I love Algorithm! The remix should be called "Igorrrithm" Haha! I look forward to checking this one out too!
@@thegothicviking1388 yeah I mean what kind of name is that? 🤣 I should have guessed you would know The Algorithm haha. I liked his music when I discovered him (could have been with this song actually) but I haven't checked out his recent stuff. His social media has always been pretty great though. Oui!
Ahh yes of course! I need to give this album more listens for sure. It didnt impress me on first listen, but only because I hold their previous albums to such high praise! I'm sure it will be a grower for me :)
@@thegothicviking1388 Same here. The two first singles felt a bit disappointing compared to the songs on The Banished... But damn, the album has grown so much! It has become sort of a soundtrack for 2020 for me :)
Hi Lee, some really interesting points you have made about your top 10 bands. I absolutely love the Paradise Lost and Dark Tranquility. What did you make of the My Dying Bride album (The Ghost of Orion)?
I thought that the new My Dying Bride album was unfortunately very underwhelming and disappointing compared to the other death doom releases of 2020, and compared to their back catalogue. The song Your Broken Shore is very good but the rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired!
Yes! Memories of Old is brilliant! Thanks for reminding me. Of course I've enjoyed Grimgotts material too, but you've been releasing EPs rather than an album.
