For me 9. Endless Forms Most Beautiful 8. Human II Nature 7. Imaginaerum 6. Dark Passion Play 5. Once 4. Angles Fall First 3. Century Child 2. Ocean Born 1. Wishmaster
Just subbed to your channel, mate. Fortress was awesome this year. My first year going, enjoyed it so much, already got ticket for next year. I will be doing a video review myself as well. I need to check out your band, and apologies for not coming over to your stall. I will have to grab a copy of your latest album. 🍻🤘
I bought your CD at the festival! Asked if anything at the stall resembled Ellende and there you were to suggest your own work. Love that. I think it was you anyway, saw the thumbnail and thought i recognised you but could be wrong, lots of faces there
Yes I remember, I hope you enjoyed the album! I only suggested my band's CD as I thought you'd genuinely like it based on what you were looking for! Thanks for taking a risk and buying blind!
@@thegothicviking1388 you were absolutely right to mate. You were both very helpful so it felt right to support you and get good music in return. Hope to see you there next year!
Don't mean to rub it in, but I managed to get a spot front and center to see them, they absolutely killed it, John is one hell of a front man and super friendly as well, ran into him randomly on the first day of the festival, agreed for a picture and talked about his music for a bit, guy couldn't have been nicer
Awesome job, and great list. I had to check if the Gothic Viking was hiding under my bed or something because this list is so similar to my own that it's almost creepy! 😀 Living in Denmark, I've seen Sunken live several times so I can confirm that you're in for an atmospheric treat. I can't think of a festival with a better lineup this year
Haha, we must both have great minds because great minds think alike! I just saw Sunken in London, brilliant show. Can't wait for Saturday to see them on a bigger stage!
my ranked álbum form nightwish as: 9. Angel Fall first 8. Endless Forms Most Beautiful 7. Century Child 6. Human 5. Ocean Born 4. Wishmaster 3. Dark Passion Play 2. Once 1. Imaginaerum
Great Deep dive into your 10 most anticipated bands to see at Fortress! I was also blown away with Sunken when I heard them in prep for the fest. Also my kind of Ambient Black Metal, just beautiful. Have a go with Celestial Lineage of Wolves in the Throne Room, it's my favourite but also have a listen to Malevolent Grain EP, you might be surprised with the EP 🤘
Sunken just have that immediate hook that draws you in. I can't describe it! I will eventually give everything from WITTR, but maybe I'll give these a go on my train journey up to Scarborough
I agree sooo much with you about thy light. I was at cosmic void too and the concert was mesmerizing! Eager to repeat that experience. Btw... you really should listen to the early Fluiteraas albuns. Greetings from Portugal. Btw2 - Lamp of Murmuur sounds like Immortal just on the last album. Every album is different. Try Submission and Slavery and you will be quite surprised 😉
I can't wait to see Thy Light again. They have a very high bar that they set for themselves! You are going to Fortress? Ahh I didn't know that about Lamp of Murmur. I will listen to some older stuff before deciding to skip them, although I will need to eat at some point 😅
Also devastated about Dodsrit, they were my most anticipated band. So many others I'm looking forward to and you've given me a nudge to get listening to Sunken and Der Weg einer Freiheit some more in preparation! See ya there
I'm sure Dodsrit will be booked for next year! They're too good not to be! I just saw Sunken in London, you really must watch them at Fortress, they were fantastic!
Also really appreciate the mention about the Ocean Room, overlooked that aspect as my mind still is enjoying the size of that room last year. Also the nod to leaving if you're not there for that band@@thegothicviking1388

Hey man thanks for the comment! Very kind words indeed 🙏 You can email us at cistvaenbanduk@gmail.com My vinyl collection has grown since this video. The latest addition is Svalbard - The Weight of the Mask
@thegothicviking1388 awh thanks so much for the reply! I just have a few questions for you guys and was wondering if I could send them there! thank you Lee! :)
I disagree about the days of grays.I think is a good and honest album. Much better than The ninth hour that is so boring . But i also agree with lot of things that you talk
For me it is.. 11. Talviyo 10. Stones Grow Her Name 9. Clear Cold Beyond 8. Days of Grays 7. The Ninth Hour 6. Pariah's Child 5. Winterhearts Guild 4. Unia 3. Ecliptica 2. Silence 1. Reckoning Night
Just based on the the comments and other countdowns I've listened to, AYDY? is their most divisive album. I love it, I think it's literally perfect, but other people hate it, I think, because it signaled a change in sound and that they were going to put out another Hatebreeder.
Weird similarities… My 1st favourite metal band was Dragonforce, in 2005 when I first saw the music video for TTFAF on the Scuzz music channel (UK). Then in about 2007 I saw a RU-vid video about how bad they sounded live, which compared them to Sonata Arctica’s live performance of “8th Commandment” on the “For the Sake of Revenge” live DVD. I was then obsessed with that DVD and the band. In 2007 ish I bought “The Collection” compilation album and Unia, and since Stones GHN I’ve not been into them as much.
Don't think the lai lai lai lai singing is exclusively Finnish as Arkona of Russia does that too. Possibly a slavic influence as Finland was a Russian territory for a time.
You mentioned Unlike the waves being folky but opposite end of the spectrum from Korpiklaani. I feel that folk metal can be split this way between party cheese booze galore drinking folk metal diggy diggy hole types, and the serious stuff that is more nature derived and closer to traditional folk melodies. Ashes against the grain is definitely my favorite Agalloch album as well, probably not of all time, that goes to Moonsorrows Kivenkentaja. But definitely top ten. It's tied with Woods of Ypres best album The Pursuit of the sun and the allure of the earth.
Yes! I just listened to it the other day for the first time in so many years because I completely forgot about it. I didn’t really like it before. But when I heard it the other day I was like damn, this is actually really fucking good.
I stopped watching as soon as you pronounced it "Bodumb" instead of "Bowdahm" Just kidding m8!! Fortuitously I came across your channel, going to revisit many albums thanks to you
Thx for sharing! My first Sonata show was for the Reckoning Night tour and that album will always mean the world to me. My ranking would be as follows: Stones Grow Her Name Talviyo The Ninth Hour Pariah's Child Days of Grays Unia Silence Ecliptica Winterheart's Guild Reckoning Night
I flew to Helsinki to see "End of and Era" I know later they made a CD/DVD out of it. That concert is the one of my life which I will never foget. I tell you why, THE CROWD. I have seen Genesis, Collins, Hackett, Gabrel, YES, and the list goes on.... I have never seen a more passionate crowd than in Helsinki. The best concert EVER. Tarja nailed it, and the boys were out of this World.
I do not dislike any of their albums, but some of them simply hit harder than others in different parts of my life. 9) Angels Fall First 8) Human Nature 7) Once 6) Endless Forms Most Beautiful 5) Wishmaster 4) Dark Passion Play 3) Oceanborn 2) Imaginaerum 1) Century Child I discovered them via the huge Once advertising, but soon got all their albums back in 2004 and found to like their older style better. Quite interesting to see different tastes. Regarding the singers: I love all of them for their own songs. I didn't like Anette singing Tarja stuff but I also don't like Floor singing Anette stuff that much. Floor sometimes exaggerates on the distortion in her voice which sometimes don't fit with either of her predecessors
Ecliptica has all the classics man, always number 1, and yeah tony plays all the keyboards in that album, there is some footage where you can see him playing everything live (sonata arctica at tavastia 1999)
People shit on Bloodrunk, but it has my favorite COB song in it. Banned from Heaven. Banned from heaven has such a good verse riff. Hellhounds ROCKS too. Same with the title track, Tie my Rope, etc. it’s my favorite album of theirs
Supposedly there's talks of a new album in the works. Saw an article where Tony says the new album is going to be closer to what the fans want. He said similar things for the release of Pariah's Child and maybe another newer album I think. I am trying not to get my expectations too high, but their older albums are going to be very tough to beat, or even meet the standard. Heard some talk that they are going back to Mikko Karmila for production/mixing.
