thank you for posting these vids, duane. As an aspiring technician, I've learned alot from your channel. You are definately "passing the wrench" on a very grand scale! Thank you again!
I own a 98 windstar like this one and this is a known issue for these models. This happens to my van about once a year but I have found a much simpler way to fix the problem that lasts about a year before it needs to be done again. I simply spray some liquid wrench or WD40 into all of the front door, and rear hatch latches and take some fine steel wool and clean the contacts on the sliding door which do corrode over time. This has always fixed the problem and the van is good for another year.
On my 93 lumina sedan it was a door switch that was too short. We opened 1 door at a time and pushed each switch by hand until we saw the door that shut off the lights. You can either put a paper extension or adjust the nut on the switch. Put wd40 to door latches and that switch too if it feels rusty.
question if the door makes a sound every time u open your door but stops when u close it, does that mean it isnt that door that the door ajar light is coming on for
the Cadillac Co.is not able 2 make a key (engine start) 2 turn the car over...with both sides of any key.We have marked the only side of "ONE KEY",that works.we never got a 2nd set.And even though this was a recall on the 2007,Caddy DTS.the WANTED over 1500.00 dollars.
HELLO I REALLY THINK MY DOOR AJAR IS STICKING ON MY 98 FORD WINDSTAR, IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF GETTIN TO THAT SWITCH WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE DOOR?? THANKS
i was wanting to find out how to fix my side door lock its stuck on the inside of the car door and will not open so i am looking to see how is it repairable and its cost?
How come u didn't just use a scanner to access the BCM in order to find witch door was acting up? And seems like just trying to lube the pin switches before removing the door would have been my first option
Hi I watched your clip and need advice on 07 jeep liberty same issue door ajar light in cluster and dome lights on when all doors are mechanically closed if I shut dimmer switch in multifunction switch dome light shuts off after serveral minutes I turn it back on and dome light still off then I open door and close seems to work but when I do this a second time it starts acting up again? Helppppppp.
If i want to remove the sensors comletley, to show doors always closed, i need to conect two incoming power wires or isolate them seperatley to dash showed closed doors?!
some times those switches simply get stuck from lack of use. Try spraying a little WD40 right into the switch itself and then exercise it by opening and closing the door several times. If it starts working right, then it was just stuck.
50/50 chance of a call back on this one. The switch must be a dealer item and not ready available. Going that deep and not changing the part is risky, in my opinion.
Good video,...but,....you don't have to take door out, just simply spray lubricant into door latch, and open/close door few times...and that will do the trick !=)
+Eero Laukkanen I'll try the silicone lube. I already tried WD-40, and a lot of people say you shouldn't use it for this purpose. I have an F -150, but it seems like a lot of Ford models are having this issue.
Then buy a new sensor, door ajar, from ebay, about $26-30 only, open the door molding, and change it, it turns like 90 degrees and pops out, piece of cake, done in 10-15 min, then it works for sure, I just change 2 of them into my buddy's Windstar =), works good !!, very typical Ford problem !
Thanks for the advice good sir! I had a feeling that's what I'd have to wind up doing. It sounds fairly simple, but I'll try the silicone lube first before delving into that.
OK, I have a 2000 Windstar...after watching this...I am just going to live with the door ajar on all the time. Maybe I'll just start squirting some lube back in there first to see what happens. Get lucky. Sixteen year old car at this point. Thinjk I'll spray some teflon stuff. Tri-fow...WD can get gummy.
