Excellent job! I wish i could have helped you and had you remove the entire assembly as one piece by removing the 2 bolts on each side of the door assembly then the entire window frame and regulator comes out as one piece. But you were a life saver for me it took me a while to get my issue fixed but with this video i was able. My door was stuck shut because someone before me didn't hook up the cable to the outside handle and the child lock was engaged so the inside handle wouldn't function. Thanks again for your in-depth video footage!

Hey David! that is good news to me, I am glad you were able to fix the problem, taking this problem to a mechanic and they want to charge an "arm and a leg". Yep hooking up that cable is one of the trickiest part of this job, but it is doable. Thank you so much for watching my videos and please don't forget to subscribe.

This video is why RU-vid mechanic tutorials are dangerous. You didn’t bother paying for the service manual or an alldata/Mitchell subscription which would of clearly shown you what to do. Instead you guessed your way through job and made it much harder then it actually is. If your reading this DONT do it this way. Remove the 4 t45 torxs screws surrounding door and pull whole assembly out. They have plastic covers over bolts that easily pop off. Remove right side of outer door handle (where lock cylinder would be) by loosening torx screw in door jamb. That gives you clear access to cable.

Your comment is very valid and I have to agree with you but not entirely. I tried to look for tutorials online and I wasn't able to find a single one, so I was on my own. I have to disagree a little bit on your comment saying that by removing the four bolts, the whole assembly comes out, at least on my vehicle there was no way, I had to remove the rivets in order to have access to the inside perhaps some other porches is easier than this one. Also this channel is not for the PROS, this channel is made for the do-it-yourselfers, this is where you do the work at home and sometimes without the proper tools, this channel is for the people who wants to experience the error and trial but Thank you so much for watching my videos. And by the way I would like to ask you a question where do you see the danger on this video? I just don't get it, or are you trying to promote yourself?

Lessons I learned doing the job, the plastic arm between the actuator and door inner isn’t really needed and can be discarded, also you can get the white cover on the mechanism if you put it in the door first before you thread the new actuator in place. Unhooking the short cable from the door handle makes removal and reinstalling much easier, but don’t forget to engage the preload spring which clicks off the first time you use the outside handle.
@TIPSFORDUMMIES
@TIPSFORDUMMIES 4 года назад
@@moakesr Excellent tip, I did discarded the plastic in between the actuator and the door but I forgot to add or mention that on this video. And yes one of the hardest things I encounter doing this project, it was unhooking and hooking that short cable, I didn't realized you can unhook the cable from the door first, thanks for this tip.

Thanks for helpful video. There's another guy with video on how to fix the actual actuator. You can also add in description for touareg and q7, they share similar doors.

Hey thanks for watching my videos! Excellent tip you just give me. Every time I finish a video, I want to include all the vehicles in which the job applies but I don't know how to do the search. Thank you so much I will apply this info to the tags on you tube.

You made your life unecessary difficult. You only have to remove the rivets for the plastic support of the door lock (as you mentioned, no idea how this is installed in the factory) you must keep the bracket and can fix it afterwards with a suitable screw into the holes where the rivets were. You must leave the other rivets on top, as they come out with the full windo frame and windowlifter assembly (2x45 Torx screw on the outer and 2x45 Torx screw on the inside). You were unbelievably lucky, that you did not destroy the windowlifter spool by removing the motor and push the spool to the back. Also the little wire between the lock and the door handle is an super easy task, if you remove the key cylinder first. By the way, if the little cable is not adjusted properly the door may not close anymore properly. I did this job today the proper way as per the repair manual and is super easy.... unfortunately I cannot send pictures here...

Hey thanks for watching my video, are you sure we are talking about the same vehicle/year and model? because on mine I didn't see other way but by removing the top rivets. I have to admit that the hardest part was the little wire between the lock and the handle, if by removing the cylinder makes it easy, I am really thankful that you brought that up here, hopefully other people reads this message so they can remove that cylinder first, however on mine there where not adjustments, the wire will go in one way on the bottom and same on the top(door handle) no adjustments, I there is an adjustment to be made I guess I got lucky because it's been months and the door is working great. Thanks again.
@marcusnietzold4630
@marcusnietzold4630 3 года назад
@@TIPSFORDUMMIES yes you can adjust the tension of the wire but only on the door handle, not on the lock. If the tension is to strong, the lock will not lock properly and the door might snap open during a corner. We are talking about the same vehicle, I had a 2007 Cayenne GTS but from the beginning, Touareg, Cayenne and Q7 were all the same. Remember in your Video it was very tricky to get the lock out, because the frame for the window was in the way? When you uninstall all correctly, it is completely free and you can fix the new lock with the white cover. If you like contact me and I send you pictures via WhatsApp, since I cannot share here. +971 52 977 0313 (UAE number, living in Dubai)

Would it be the same process if the door handle broke clean off the passenger door thanks to a crazy ex? The wire snapped on the door handle and the door handle pulled completely off the door
@marcusnietzold4630
@marcusnietzold4630 8 месяцев назад
You don't have to dismantle anything If only the door handle broke off and is damaged. Just remove the key cylinder and you can take the handle off. However, if the handle was pulled so hard, that it got ripped out, there is a high chance, that the little support frame on the inside is damaged as well (counter part and guide for the handle). In this case you have to open it all up to get access to the damaged part.

Incredibly helpful... couldn't work out if I needed to drill these rivets out or remove the whole door assembly and take it apart.... this is easy enough get some sealant in there after and the job will be done ... one thing I would say is though do you have a patreon or donation link?... I would love to send you some money for a tripod your video was almost unwatchably shaky.... but love you all the same

I think the easier way is to remove the hole frame out. Then you don’t have to remove rivets. Anyway its a nice video.

I got a 06 Cayenne Turbo and my driver's door half the time doesn't want to open so I give it just a little pool towards me or from the outside I push it in and I can hear a little click and then it works it's like the unlock and lock button isn't fully engaging to unlock unless I push the door in a little bit. Would that be related to the door lock actuator anyone else have that issue
@TIPSFORDUMMIES
@TIPSFORDUMMIES 2 года назад
Hey Thanks for watching my videos! Yes totally related with the door actuator, on my vehicle I had to bang the door and I was able to open the door sometimes until it was very hard to open. My suggestion to you is to fix the problem before the door won't open at all, because if you are not able to open the door to fix it, then it would be a really pain in the rectum just to open the door. Thanks for watching my videos and please don't forget to subscribe.

Very helpful, but has anyone got a fix to open the door when both interior and exterior handles don't work to enable starting this lock replacement?
@TIPSFORDUMMIES
@TIPSFORDUMMIES 3 года назад
Hey thanks for watching my videos, yep you have a complicated situation right there. These type of actuators need to reset every time the door is open, the cable from the outside door handle some times brakes or gets stuck and the arm does not reset completely. This is what I would do: first try to bang the door with the palm of your hand right below the outside door handle, do this a quite a few times just don't band too hard so you don't damage the metal, sometimes by banging on the outside it will reset the inside arm and you are able to open the door. If this doesn't work, then you have to put the window down and very careful you have to put a pry in between the window and the door, then try to lubricate with D-W40 all components, this should make the arm to reset then you may be able to open the door. Good luck and please don't forget to subscribe
