After watching every other video on RU-vid it just seemed more confusing. Your video was the only one showing the actual step by step process explained in simple terms rather than trying to sound like a NASA engineer and spue out a bunch of jargon yourself didn't understand. Thanks a ton.
I was looking other videos before this one, all kinda confusing to understand lol. Thank you so much for make it so simple and practical to explain. 👍👍👌
Thank you very much for this instrumental video. My wife and I purchased a house last month and in the hallway we could smell a burning smell and a buzzing sound in the hallway. So instead of calling in a electrician I you-tube it and found your video. So yea buzzer switch was stuck in the on position and the bell was hooked up wrong. Now I am a new subscriber to your channel.
Sir, thank you for this video. Out of all the ones I’ve watched trying to figure out my wiring system they used for our doorbell, your video was the easiest and simplest to understand. Allowed me to FINALLY get our doorbell to work again after 2 blown transformers and replacing the chime inside the house. It burned up as well. Too much to explain how it was previously wired ( had multiple wires going to the chime with no labels and none were hooked up to the old chime). Anyway, thanks a lot!
Man, you don't find many useful videos on RU-vid sometimes but your video was simple and very helpful. Was able to resolve my doorbell wiring issue after watching your video. Thanks!
Thanks for the vid! Helped me troubleshooting my doorbell. Thought it was a bad coil on the bell. Turns out the transformer was bad. Fixed with $30 doorbell kit maybe an hour of work.
HA! Got you beat! I just learned tonight that the system is wholly AC - I thought it was DC! Explains why my meter wasn't yielding good results... DOH!
Trent, Thanks for this video, it’s quite helpful. I’m going through the troubleshooting steps and find that when I touch the wires for the button together, sometimes it initiates the chime and sometimes it squeals or just clicks. (The chime plays a song, so there’s actually a diode between the two wires as well.) I’m visiting my parents house and can’t get access to the transformer in their attic to test the voltage. Just wondering if this is enough info to tell if the issue is wiring or transformer or something else. Thanks for any info you can provide!
Great video. very informative. One question. Is it normal to have a Hum at the Chime? ..door bell stopped working ( after 30 years in the house)..put new one. I get a noticeable hum that you can clearly hear. Never had that before. Is that normal?...I replaced the chime with the same style as the old one.
If my doorbell is not functioning, and the doorbell light is out, is it possible the transformer? Where would the transformer be located. The doorbell box is on the 2nd floor. One other thing: is the power for the outside doorbell coming from the doorbell box?
Hey pardner. Appreciate the vid. Found the wire to the transformer contact busted and thought I'd have a quick fix (previous owner foreclosed on-thought he cut it). I connected it but still no ding.. noticed the transformer felt a little warm. Is that normal? Thinking it shouldn't be. Thoughts? Thanks..
So if i have a plug in chime do i only get a transformer and 20 guage wire and just connect the red wire to it without the other wires and should I house the transformer in a metal or plastic box ? I know they produce heat but would it be too much for a plastic one
Hey been having some trouble installing a new video door bell, i think my transformer might be not supplying enough power to it. I found a transformer in the basement by the breaker box but only the power cables are connected (black, white, ground) but no low voltage cables on the other side are connected. Bare in mind the current door bell and chime box are working so it must be getting power from somewhere. That transformer i found seems to not be in use. Any ideas of what could be happening here? Thank you!
Can you split the wire to make 2 separate chime connections? My chime burnt out when contractor was working on front door install (but he has no idea what could have caused it; LOL) I wanted to put double chimes side by side to replace old one (increasing DBs in same location); took the wire that was existing that was connected to burnt chime and spliced 2 new wires in (all 3 reds in one wire nut and all 3 blacks in the other). I already had 30amp transformer bc I wanted to this originally but never did. Thanx in advance for the help!
I have an older Edwards C210-W Economy Dual (Front/Back) Door Chime. The wiring plate on the Transformer indicates a 1, 2 and T. Which number corresponds with the Front and Back doorbells? Thank you,
Question. My back doorbell recently stopped working. My front is fine. I took the wires off the back button and touched them together. The bell did not ring. What would prevent my back to stop and my front to continue if it is not the button? Thoughts?
I have 4 wires at chimes...2 blue stripe, 2 yellow stripe. Tried many combinations. Got it to work leaving one wire off, but both doors make same sound (ding dong) but back door used to just do single dong. Put new transformer in. Both bells work...just want single noise at back! Any thoughts?
So tested the transformer got 22V . Checked the other end going into chime and doorbell still get 22V. Idk if its the wiring from doorbell or if the chime is messed up but i still get no power to doorbell.
I fixed my last to doorbells i had they never worked. Im great at problem solving. But now I can't figure out how to make the chime louder. Any thoughts?
I’ve checked the wiring looks ok l, checked the voltage seems good 21.8 at the transformer wiring seems ok but every-time I try to press the ring button it will ring once and then the breaker goes off immediately. Any suggestion ? Is this a faulty power supply? Any suggestions ?
I replaced an old system, even if I plug the transformer directly to the chime it won't go off. I think that I am getting low or not enough voltage. I only have a touch tester which gives me a low voltage reading.
Can you please help me how to wires up for my new doorbell? 2 white wires 2 red wires from wall ( same as your bell ). I have new bell, it has 4 wires, red, black, yellow & green. Which wire is ground and hot ?
I have a unlighted doorbell button and made it lighted by using a light board from another doorbell that dosen’t lite up because of low voltage from a snap circuit doorbell button
I have a old house I have 2 black wires coming from electrical system hooked up to the old transformer How do I hook up the new transformer that has 3 wires 1black 1 green and 1 white ?
First thing you realize in a new house is that the hot and cold are reversed for a sink, took me a while longer to figure out my boor bell was wired in reverse too. I really hope there isn't some other mistake of shoddy workmanship still lurking on to be discovered by fire marshals after my house has burned down.
I’m reading 12 volts on my transformer? I’m reading 12 volts to my wires at the bell. I’m not getting any voltage to my front door bell wires. Could the bell be bad?
after I took the door bell out to clean, but have no time to put it back. 2 weeks later when I come back from work and try to complete it, I see 3 white & 3 black wire, however; could not remember which wire is for center(transformer). what if mix them up? Please help. Thank you.
So when I take the red wire from a pair, hook it to trans, and take the white wire from the same pair and hook it to rear, the chime goes without me hitting the button. What do I need to do?
I wired a new chime with the existing wire that was already there the way you explained. When I turned the breaker on it dinged once and kept humming. When I pushed the front door button it would stop humming. Anyone have any suggestions on how the person who wire the old chime might have switched wires to make this happen? It seems to have power all the time till I press the button! thanks
My doorbell switch used to light up. Now not anymore after disconnecting and doing work in the house. Now I reconnected the switch and no longer lights, but belll still functions. Any idea why? I have 18v on the switch with my fluke
My wife yanked off our doorbell to wall paper she did not mark the 3 wires as to there location. I connected it by guessing. Nothing is marked as far as trans, front or rear. I hooked it up but it rings different now. Before is was ding dong on one, and just a ding on the other. They both just ding.
Great video. I am having trouble getting increased voltage for my new Ring Pro doorbell. I was getting 11v so I installed a new transformer with multiple voltage options. After installing, the transformer shows 18.5v, but now my doorbell is getting a very low amount like 1.5v. Any idea what could be causing that? The wiring is poorly labeled but I hooked it up identical to how it was. Thanks!
our doorbell will work at the front door but not the back. Checked button by touching wires , but no luck. Can I put both on the front door terminal without causing any issues
This is the second home in which ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
