During my 22 year Navy career, I spent a lot of those years on TI. 54 weeks of Electronics Class A School 1966-67. 48 weeks of Advanced Electronics Class B School 1968-69. Instructor Duty at Advanced Electronics Class B School 1969-73. ADCOP Program 1973-75. I lived at 1224F Bayside Dr for 7 years, 1968-75. To this day my daughter, who was born while on TI, has had health problems most likely from the buried radioactive material in the housing area.

My dad was career Navy. My earliest memories in the late 50's and early 60's are of Alameda and Treasure Island. Haven't been there in 50 years. Knew the Navy moved out years ago, but would be very interested in seeing what's become of it.

naval air station Alameda became Alameda point. it still looks very much like a naval base and not much has changed. I'm working on turning it into a veteran community. Treasure island hasn't changed much neither. aside from the abandoned and dilapidated buildings, it looks like a military base as it was before Sept of 97. there is a big ugly steel statue of a woman erected near the dorms. I think they took it down.

Like most world's fairs, the buildings were temporary. They were all torn down when the navy moved in. Except for the permanent building that was supposed to be the airport terminal. The airport was actually built south of the city on the peninsula. The island is too small for the big jets and the long runways of today. Now the plan is to build homes on the island and turn it into a residential area of the city.

Went to the job corps there. Stories by the old timers was that there was several spill incidents. There is definite underground areas but never went in for fear of unknown radiation and getting lost inside.

Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay and a neighborhood in the city and county of San Francisco. Built 1936-37 for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, the island's World's Fair site is a California Historical Landmark. (Wikipedia)

Very nice video, great history and interviews, but when are you going to talk about all the people who live there exposed to radioactive waste for years and Navy radiation cleanup zones in their backyards. Just sayin'
