@@BastichB64K I have a boxed copy too. But I got mine in the 90s when it came out, remember going into Virgin Games store in Oxford Street, London, Got Darklands and Ultima VII for £30!

I used to spend many hours a day playing it, and if I recall correctly, your rivals are more likely to try to assassinate you on higher difficulties, but they’re also more likely to kill the hatamoto/daimyo. If you can get enough honour and land (which can easily be acquired through quests) you can rapidly grow your army and become the #1 candidate. I’m 99% sure that your rivals will still try to assassinate your lord, even if they’re not the ones set to inherit the title. Why bother with the military then? Because your rivals will still try to incite ikko ikki revolts, and oppose you at every step. To see if my challenge is possible, I might record my next run (after I’ve re-learnt the controls).

Lords of the rising sun is a good one to do , I only ever played the Amiga version though so not sure about the DOS one

I had a bootleg on my C64 but it had an error fairly early in the game so only ever managed a few hours in , very interesting RPG hybrid .

One tip I have, for open field battles, is don’t be afraid to use your sword to kill spearmen if you’ve already shot an archer or musketeer. If you’re quick, you can kill spearmen with your sword before they can stab you. If possible though, try to get enemy archers and musketeers to fire at their own. On higher difficulties, it’s a life-saver.
