Based on this and other reviews, (Oluv mainly) I just got my Doss Soundbox XL today and it sounds amazing! I can't stop smiling! 😊 First, the 'bad' news, it's made of plastic but doesn't look plastic... matte finish. The volume control doesn't sync, it is not rugged or waterproof, more of a home portable and it doesn't take calls but it does go silent when you get a call or when you have any other audio coming from your phone, like RU-vid or any other site and of course, don't drop it on the ground! The rest is ALL beyond good! The grille is metal and the button console is brushed steel with black round glossy buttons that click easy. Even better than I expected! No hum or rattle! This speaker handles ALL recordings really well! I dunno how! My stereo, which is really excellent, can't do that! Even the highs are good. The bass is great!! And wired to my old iPod Classic, it really sounds deadly! And MUCH louder too! Maybe 50% volume roughly, on the speaker, is enough. On my phone, I keep the volume loud and control it on the speaker. I can use phone volume buttons too. I have my entire cd collection on that iPod (mp3) so it's great, plus I'm yet to buy and try a micro SD card. That may be softer than the iPod as then there would be no preamp so to speak but the speaker is more than loud enough, so... JUST BUY IT!

my doss will give me this very sharp beep but I've no idea at which percentage , I just never run this battery to the ground , I truly enjoy the sound waves from this very elegant black box

There is a solidity and sense of poise and control to the sound of this speaker, with good harmonic detail that can be heard right down low into the bass, noticeable on instruments like the piano. The timbre of piano notes is reproduced extremely well, with good harmonic detail, the type of sound you hear on a live piano. Though the midrange sounds a little recessed, the dynamic range is very good, and this is very noticeable when someone plays multiple notes at once on a complex instrument like a church organ. This speaker unit can separate multiple layered organ notes with very very good clarity. Thus it can be used for critical music listening I believe, and as it sounds smooth, can be listened to for long periods without fatigue. Recordings sound quite authentic. I have also noticed that there is good space around individual instruments and voices, with sounds coming out in a mix from a black background, which means that very high quality amplifiers are used. This is the hallmark of real hi-fidelity. Readers, music reproduction is not just about low bass and high treble. It is about accurately portraying the message of the original performer(s). Don't spend large amounts of cash on speakers that sound bright or unbalanced when you can spend much less on a speaker like this and enjoy different music styles, within its limits, near to as they are meant to be heard.

I got lucky and found a Harmon Kardon receiver for $20 at a thrift store that I use in my garage. It was over $400 when it was new in 1973. Thing weighs 25 pounds Built like a tank. I already had some speakers. Best sounding stereo I own.

The wattage numbers are 100% fiction. They literally do not mean anything. This speaker cannot put out more than 3-5 watts. Even if the numbers bore any relation at all with reality, it still wouldn't mean anything because the sensitivity of the speakers isn't listed. If the speaker really could put out 32 watts, it would need a 320 watt hour battery with 100% efficiency end to end in order to run it full blast for 10 hours. There is most likely a chip inside of it that will have the power output specifications. But all that really matters is that it sounds good and that you like it (or not.)
