i laughed at “so unless you’re rolling around in the dirt” and then i remembered i’m an archaeologist and i am in fact lying in bed with dirt on my face rn
I can definitely respect that you have to look after your skin if you’re doing that. I bet you have to use a fair bit of sunscreen too, I know I burn so much easier after being in salt water.
I started double cleansing with a Korean oil cleanser followed by a gentle cleanser. It was such a game changer for me. It repaired my skin barrier because I didn’t have to scrub the heck out of my face anymore. Thank you for all the wonderful videos
Same for me! I have psoriasis, rosacea and periorificial dermatitis that flare up with stress or cold weather and double cleansing helped my skin barrier so much.
I got into skincare pretty heavily at the start of the pandemic, as did a lot of people. Double cleansing is one of my favorite things. I finally added tretinoin to my routine about 3 months ago. At 54, my skin looks phenomenal and the best it ever has in my lifetime. Just a few weeks ago, I met a woman a couple years older than me who asked how old I was how old I am. When I told her she was stunned. She thought I was a decade younger. I'll take it! Keep up the amazing videos, I've learned so much from the two of you over the years. ❤
@jillclement morning: brief cleanse, vitamin c, Sunday Riley lactic acid, and moisturizer/sunscreen. Evening: double cleanse, copper peptides, wait about 15 minutes, then tretinoin and heavier moisturizer. I really only have one item that I can't live without, and that's Sunday Riley lactic acid. It really smoothed out the bumps in my skin. I use it daily without any irritation. I use a chemical exfoliant mask about once a week in the evening and skip the tretinoin that night.
I used to double cleanse and had little bumps on my forehead and chin. My derm recommended I stop so I did and all my bumps have gone away. With that be said, I also don’t use makeup at all so I imagine it’s different for people that need to get makeup off! 😊
of you're using spf you really should be using a balm of some kind to take it off. water cleansers don't fully remove them. but if you don't wear spf it doesn't matter
Idk if the doctors mentioned this, but some oils with an abundance of/combination of certain fatty acids can feed a fungus called malassezia, which in normal amounts is fine and found on the body naturally, but off balance can cause fungal acne (looks like small bumps everywhere). I don’t have fungal acne but I do get seborrheic dermatitis sometimes which is also caused by malassezia so I have to be careful which oils I use to double cleanse. Squalane is good for this since it isn’t an oil but a hydrocarbon
For smooth glowing skin: 1 - Staying hydrated is key. It helps. Try to consume at least 2 liters water every day. 2 - Using riceeberry face wash from litleextra daily is part of my routine. Although I occasionally skip this step due to impatience. While it works, daily application is crucial for results. 3 - I avoid any kind of soap etc. 4 - I stay away from junk food. 5 - I do 30 minutes of exercise everyday. Together, all these steps helped me to get good glowing skin without any acne, dark spots and pimples.
I used to have clear skin. However, lately, I began experiencing acne breakouts. I didn't know that the harsh face wash I used was actually drying up my skin. Once I switched it to this gentle cleanser and used a moisturising cream with it, all my breakouts stopped. Thanks Litttleextra ricebeerry.
The key is to do all of these consistently for 6 months at least and NEVER stopping once u get the results. I got the perfect glass skin following these things and so much more (ie no alcohol, sunscreen, raw veggie smoothies every morning, 7 hours of sleep) until I slowly started eating those junk food again and all of it is gone now 😂I still do every single thing here and don't even eat a lot of junk food - just fried food and sweet treats 3-4x a week. Getting that perfect skin is really tough work, unless you're blessed with good genes.
Double cleansing has been a game changer for my very dry 56 year old skin. I love DHC. I also love a grape seed oil, it works great to dissolve makeup and waterproof mascara, and it washes off easily without leaving skin feeling dry.
Peer-reviewed, backed by science, study shows… these are key words that I’ve been looking for by doctors or professionals. In addition with showing said studies, etc. Also the difference in establishing professional opinion vs study or lack of study. Thank you!! ❤
It definitely matters which one you use. Some don’t remove everything, some are too stripping. Really gotta listen to your skin and learn what it likes. I love the farmacy one!
Double cleansing helped drastically with my skin flaking from Tretinoin. I use softymo speedy oil cleanser. I cleanse with this TWICE. My skin feels clean but also my peeling has stopped completely. To me this is a huge win. I SWEAR by tretinoin, but I hate that sometimes I peel on my chin and nose.
I have oily but sensitive skin and double cleansing ruined my skin barrier. Since the oil cleanser was great at preventing congested pores, I now only use a gentle Korean oil cleanser and so far it's been working really well. It's unusual, but I haven't found anything online that says it's a bad idea, so I'm going with it for now.
@@iriname micellar water always irritated my skin, even the Bioderma Sensibio. Oil cleansers seem gentler to me, although not all of them. My favs are Dear Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil and iUnik Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil. Both are very simple formulas and made from mostly plant oils.
Same happened to me. I have oily sensitive skin. Cleaning oil always irritated my skin. So im sticking to my bioderma micellar water as my first cleanser thn i switch between salicylic acid face wash mild gel wash
In a pinch if I struggled to get off mascara, I've definitely used a moisturizer and it absolutely worked. Wouldn't use anything pricey, but a basic moisturizer does the trick.
I've been using moisturizer to remove makeup for decades (over 4!)! Back in the late 70's, pre internet, and pre-sunscreen too, I found that it was very effective at removing my eyeshadow and mascara. They didn't really have a lot of expensive moisturizers back then, and I was unaware of any makeup removers.
I double cleanse with a cleansing oil and then a foaming facial cleanser. Followed by an essence, serum, moisturizer and a sunscreen. I'm 55 and have no wrinkles and can go makeup free all day, every day.
OOooohh I love this video! I love how you guys talked about each study, and esepically in the second one when discussing the survey population and the whole correlation or causation thing. I think these videos are important because it helps people to look at any study, be it in medicine to economics, with a more critical lens. Also I love double cleansing, I started doing it because it just felt nice but my skin feels so glowy
I know it might not be popular but I have used Ponds cold cream for years. I have dry skin and it helps keep my skin moist. I also use Retin a. I have very few wrinkles and a nice texture to my skin. I have started using a foaming cleanser in the morning.
I’ve loved the Hada Labo cleansing oil for double cleansing since hearing about it from another derm! It’s very sensitive-skin friendly, no fragrance, and affordable :)
Great video! Thank you for posting this information. I’ve had a lot of sun cancer and live in So. California so I need to use sunscreen everyday without fail. When I first started applying sunscreen each day, I was not double cleansing and was breaking out in my late 40’s. I thought that it was the brand of sunscreen that I was using until my dermatologist told me that I needed to double cleanse! No more break outs! And, my skin looks so much better 👍🏼
I definitely double cleanse when wearing makeup and in the summer when I’m reapplying my sunscreen much more often. This time of year my skin doesn’t tolerate quite as well. Farmacy does have a fragrance free version of their balm. Tatcha also has a beautiful balm
Personally, I double cleansed when I heard about it. Doing that left little bumps on my skin. Then I happened to listen to Dr Sam Bunting. She said she noticed that in her patients who double cleansed. She said wash with a cleanser suited for your skin type and rinse 10 times. I did and the bumps went away. There are sometimes I do use a face cream I stopped using to get the sunscreen off before cleansing.
I have little bumps, too. I try to keep my makeup brushes clean and never again use contouring pencils. I’m starting to suspect my cream blush. I’m using a liquid shaving bump water made with salicylic acid and also psoriasis cream which is stronger. I’m going to get a professional facial with extractions soon.
@@richellebenton8029 I’m actually surprised nobody mentioned the Clinique cleansing balm because like I said it is the OG of all cleansing balms. I had to put it out there lol And yes there is a reason to why the Clinique cleansing balm has been around for so long!
Could you please talk about red, dry sensitive skin and eczema please? 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Struggling with it and difficult to find good info 😩 Love your videos as always, I only double cleanse if I'm wearing makeup, otherwise my skin would die!
I’m a big fan of double cleansing! I’ve been doing it for decades-before there was a name for it and before there were so many more products to choose from. I used Pond’s back in the day
Yes! I used ponds too then Cera Ve. I needed to rinse a lot. But I’ve been doing this since the 80s! Now I use Clinique take the day off then Vanicream gentle facial wash.
I don't love double cleansing, but I do enjoy cleansing oils, like Paula's Choice ,that emulsify. Lately I've been using CeraVe Foaming Oil Cleanser which removes makeup well but requires immediate application of moisturizer because it removes all oils from any skin.I'll probably stick with this because it's good and easy.
I've been double cleansing since way before it was a thing. When I use makeup, I remove it with an oil-based cleanser otherwise it doesn't really come off, but my skin is already oily and I always need another detergent afterwards to make me feel clean. I can't imagine how my skin would look like if I didn't, but I bet it would be way worse than now!
I had to stop double cleansing, it was breaking me out so bad, just too harsh for my skin, so now I only single cleanse. If I'm wearing chemical SPF, a water cleanser, and if its a mineral SPF, then an oil cleanser.
@@jordillo777 I will keep that in mind. I do have issues with cleansing balms. I have less problems with cleansing oils. The balms are so thick. I’ve even noticed with makeup that anything too creamy (cream bronzer & cream blush) causes issues.
I love double cleansing in the evening! I can feel the difference instantly once I wash it off & am using my water based cleanser! Happy thankful skin ❤ and I'm glad u approve it too
I've been double cleansing for 10 years and I cannot live without it. Cleansing oil is my favorite thing to use because it's very affordable, lasts a long time, and is super effective at removing sunscreen and makeup. For me, micellar water irritates my eyes and cleansing balms are hard to control in regards to how much product you use, so cleansing oils make the most sense to me. Hada Labo and the kose regular and/or speedy ones have been my favorites over the years. Currently I've been trying the Elizavecca olive oil one and it looks like it'll be another one I recommend and will probably repurchase. I have oily skin, so I love a good lather, and the shiseido perfect whip cleanser makes a great thick lather that washes away the oil and makeup residue
Double cleansing has changed my skin, less blackheads, no acne. My skin feels so soft after double cleansing. I’ve been loving “I’m from fig” balm then the tatcha rice wash . Rub rub rub , at least 1 min each. Then layer those yummy k toners
The Ordinary Squalene Cleansing Balm then QV Face Gentle Cleanser (Australian Pharmacy brand and a favourite with dermatologists here), mature dry sensitive reactive skin here, I use tinted mineral sunscreen every single day, mascara, tinted brow gel and lip tint. My dermatologist recommended these cleansers when I had destroyed my skin barrier, I love the process of a short massage with the cleansing balm, all the sebaceous filaments on my nose disappeared within weeks of starting this cleansing routine about 3 years ago.
In Japan and Korea there's another category of "first step" cleansers which are cleansing creams/lotions. I find them less stripping than cleansing balms/oils because they are kind of somewhere in between straight-up lipophilic and straight-up hydrophilic.
What about for those of us with very dry sensitive skin who wear heavy petrolatum based moisturizers and/or ointments and non-water-resistant sunscreen everyday and no make up?
I LOOOOOVE double-cleansing!! It’s been one of the biggest game-changers for me! I do use tinted sunscreen and my skin feels so much cleaner, radiant, and smoother (and my pores look virtually invisible) after double-cleansing. I’m extremely happy that I added this into my nightly skincare routine. I use DRMTLGY Pre-Cleansing oil and it’s been fantastic for me.
I have seborrheic dermatitis, I've been doing double cleansing for years Oil based cleanser+ foaming cleanser and to tell you my skin always flares up but I keep on doing it because I didn't know it's also causing rashes. Then I tried Micellar water+foaming cleanser earlier this year and itnwas the best decision no more flares up & rashes. It really depends on your skin type.
@@AliceVanIsa for me it really works. What I've been using is the Garnier Micellar water followed by B Lab Matcha Hydrating Cleanser. I was really amazed how my skin looks like after. No dermatologist ever told me about that. Twice a year I need to visit my dermatologist to treat my seb derm with steroids but I can definitely say I can control it now. If you are suffering from Seb Derm like me I hope it will also works for you. Avoiding oils at all cost even in cleansers.
Make video about how to treat dry hair.Should you shampoo more or less with dry hair? Also tell what does dry scalp mean. Do you need to oil it more or less?
I want to encourage anyone watching who struggles with seborrheic dermatitis and fungal acne to be very careful as to the types of cleansers they use If you are looking to double cleanse look into oil cleansers that are pure squalane or mct oil, most other oils feed the yeast A specific brand that has worked for me is malezia, it was made by someone who struggles with seb derm themselves so he was very particular about the types on ingredients in his products
thank you for this epi as an esthetician, i double cleanse at night when ive worn makeup and sunscreen during the day and it helps. My derm disagrees but i still do it but only occasionally
ok, here is my two cents worth, take it or leave it......I cleanse twice and I am an old lady. I use a cleanser by Cera Ve, called the hydrating cleanser, then I cleanse with Sal. Acid second. It works great It helps with my pores on my nose. Then after cleansing, I use The Ordinary retinol. My skin is beautiful for my age. I use no make up at all anymore. My skin glows naturally now.
Before I had ever heard of a cleansing balm, a friend taught me to use the thick Nivea moisturizer (the kind that came in a small tin) to remove eye makeup at the end of the day. Game changer for my younger self!!! I now use a cleansing balm to melt all my makeup off on days I wear makeup, but I hadn't thought about using it to get my daily sunscreen off! Good info, always enjoy your content!
Before cleansing balms and oils and micellar water, we used cold cream or cleansing milk for removing makeup. These were effective and gentle products and still they were much cheaper. With cleansing milk there is much less residue left after cleansing and -the oil in water emulsion- leaves the skin refreshed hydrated and clean. Never needed a double cleansing.
I use a milk cleanser for my first cleanse (I don’t wear makeup, just sunscreen). Switching from an oil cleanser to a milk cleanser was a lot less drying for my skin & I definitely recommend for those looking for a gentler option. Currently I use the Isntree Yam Root Milk Cleanser, it’s great
Thank you for sharing the product you use!!! I only use sunscreen too and have been using cerave but it's still very drying! Can I ask what your second cleanser is, please?
@@ScurvyRascal aw I’m glad I could help someone! I’m using Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip. I like it & it makes my skin feel softer BUT it does contain alcohol which is drying if used excessively
I started double cleansing last year and it has been a game changer for my skin. It drastically improved my skin tone and texture. I only double cleanse at night at the end of the day. I work as a nurse and double cleansing makes sure I get rid of all accumulated dirt/sweat. I am fully committed to my Korean skin care routine and recommend Pyungkang Yul cleansing oil or the Axis Y Moringa cleansing oil. I follow that with Klairs Gentle Black Foam Cleanser. ❤
I bought the Pyungkang Yul cleansing oil because of this comment! My rabbit really liked helping me unbox the oil (he knocked it over like 5 times lol). It feels really nice and the smell is pleasant.
This ! I’m so thankful for Korean ginseng oil double cleanser. I’ve been grinding with skincare and always actively looking for products that will transfer my skin until I have my “perfect” routine
Hello! I am a student nurse and just started double cleansing. I was just wondering if it's useful to double cleanse if you're excessively sweaty after wearing masks for long periods or after doing hard tasks or even working out.
@@RoadToAesthetics It all depends on your skin type and how your skin reacts to different products/routines. I suggest to google "Reddit skincare (insert skin concern here)" and you'll find all kinds of threads specific to your skin concern that might offer good advice. Just gotta do your homework, it's taken me years to figure out what does and doesn't work for my skin
Double cleansing works for me but I’m milia prone and I do need to be careful. I love Anua’s pore control in no small part because of its scent. It is light and incredibly pleasant, and makes me feel like getting a professional spa facial😊
I have combi to oily skin. I wear sunscreen and tinted moisturizer every morning. Ever since i started double-cleansing once at the end of the day, never looked back! Really makes a difference with preventing breakout.
I double cleansed for the fist time last night and my face was softer than EVER before after using just a regular cleanser!!! I was a believer right away!
I'm so glad that oil cleansing works for many people. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be for me. I love the nourishment it feeds to my skin and the gentleness of it, but I have a lot of blackheads and congested pores, and it only seems to exacerbate those issues for me
Would love more asian products reviews/ recommendations ♥️ you guys can start off with Korean and Japanese products but i feel like the rest of Asian products also need some love if they have actual potential. 🥰
I have been doing a double cleanse for about 3 years now and my skin looks and feels so much better. I am someone who wears makeup almost daily and I want to make sure to get all of that off along with all the other gunk at the end of the day.
I don't double cleanse but I don't wear make up and waterproof sunscreen. I do change up with what I cleanse. Sometimes I use a Purito cleansing balm for dry skin and it's so soft on the skin. I also use an oil cleanser, a more exfoliating powder cleanser, micellar water or a traditional waterbased cleanser. They all have benefits for my skin and my pores have become a lot cleaner since changing up this part of my routine.
The original cleansing oil was from a Japanese company called DHC! I received a sample and thought if it’s good enough for the Japanese women then it’s good enough for me! 😊 having a combination skin and wearing makeup regularly I’ve done this cleansing system for 20 years! 😊❤
Anecdotally I have very sensitive skin so I just take off my waterproof mascara/brows with coconut oil - a lovely melting massage as I brush my hair, and then use a gentle cleanser, twice. Touch up with a cotton swab if needed under your eyes. Affordable, effective, no BS.
Great video as usual but I think you guys could've done a better job distinguishing the difference (if there is any) of Cleaning Balm vs Cleansing Oil Vs Micellar Water
I wear makeup and double cleansing is a must, oil cleanser first (currently using softymoe) and then I alternate for my second cleanser benzoyl peroxide twice a week, currently using perricone but have used drugstore regularly. I love double cleansing.
Dr, please a video about cloged pores for dry/sensitive/normal skin. How to clean (should/avoid oil cleanser/balm etc) & how to treat cloged pores until achive clean skin.
Double cleansing really helps keeping the pores clean, especially for sunscreen users. MUJI cleansing oil then AVENE micellar water then rinse with water.
I’m a cleansing balm addict for quite awhile, one I really like is Clinique. I actually don’t normally use their products but this is one of the best ones I’ve tried recently, works a lot better than the higher priced brands that I’m used to which is great! I gave them to my mom who’s in her 60s and she has pretty oily skin, she likes it too before using the face soap to double cleanse 😀
Someone who had too much acne double cleansing as in washing the face twice with the same product actually works ...and the funny part being an Indian I started double cleansing with just a soap...and it work really well...I started doing it with soap at 20 21 age and it definitely reduced my acne and also reduced skin oil upto some extent....later I switched to facewash for oily skin and use it to double clense and it is working for me so far......
I have combination skin, oily prone and the sebaceous on my nose and both sides on my chin used to be really bad, lots of blackheads whiteheads even though I did double cleansing (using micellar water to remove makeup and other cleansing gel afterwards). No use. Until I find the wonderful cleansing oil (I used Muji one) and oh my god my skin has been rescued since. Thanks God for oil-based cleansing products.
9:57 for those who want to try this method: I use the Aveeno Calm + Restore Redness Relief Moisturizing Cream as my cleansing balm sometimes, and HOLY SHIT it's a HUUUUGE game changer. You put it on, rub it into your skin for like 30 seconds, and before your skin fully absorbs it, wash it off, and your face will feel soooo clean and hydrated. I've always thought it was weird and i could not find ANY information on this, but holy shit i've actually been accidentally oil cleansing with my moisturizer!!!
