I've been watching NBA over 35 years, Joker is breaking new ground as a point center. Joker as a center is waiting to pick up the ball saving the game clock and to start the offense. That's crazy.

if your eye test doesn't tell you that Jokic is playing at a higher level than any other player in the league, then you just don't know ball. he plays so smart, so efficient, and so unselfish. he plays perfect team basketball and despite the offense running through him, you never feel like he's hogging the ball. Luka is the opposite in those terms. he puts up gaudy numbers but he's the biggest ball hog in NBA history. his usage rate blows out the rest of the league by a mile.

I don't know if people in the media understand, but for Nikola Jokic, the season starts after the two following games. We had the Playoff preview against the Timberwolves. Also, I don't think MVP needs to be debated this year. Nikola Jokic makes everyone around him better, his team is in first place, and he has crazy stats. So, the question is, why are they doing this?

Mavs fans are louder right now, but those who have been watching basketball before Joker and now know how much this man helped change the game. The Nuggets decision to build a team around him as a Point Guard Center *_revolutionized the game we enjoy today_* and is the main reason he won his first 2 MVPs. With Joker, it’s not just the stats, it’s not just his impact on _his_ team, it’s his impact on *the league.* And the Nuggets championship just last year was proof of concept that this model could be successful and now every team has had to reshape itself to be able to compete and every tall kid that plays basketball has been given _the license_ and even mandate to expand their game because of this success! Of course, Joker wasn’t the first Center to be able to do what he does, but he’s the first in the NBA to have a team built around him and succeed at the highest level. And for Joker and the Nuggets to not just model it, but continue to dominate the League with it is *_extraordinary and still NEW!_* I know the MVP race is set mainly by the narratives of the powerful, who do not favor him, but I just hope people will _remember_ and fully contextualize what this team and this man are doing, in a “small market,” with no other All-Stars, with a bunch of rookies and OGs on the bench, with an inordinately harsh whistle and more scars than free throws to show for his battles, and with very, very, very little mainstream media support, and every team playing them like it’s Game 7 of the Finals. The Nuggets 2nd year GM Calvin Booth deserves recognition, as well as the one poached by Minnesota. The Nuggets Coaching Staff headed by Mike Malone should to be studied! The Nuggets franchise top to bottom is world class and everything that (no shade to the Bucks) Giannis and Doc have been apparently pointing out is askew with their franchise, though Denver gets overlooked as a small market team in a “flyover city” that was a “poverty franchise” this time last year! For Joker and the Nuggets team to do so much with so relatively little access and support and STILL be on top is INCREDIBLE! And I venture to say the converse is true of some teams that have all the limelight and resources, with little to show for it in recent years, which highlights even more how much Joker and the Nuggs are accomplishing. However the votes go, however the refs perform in the playoffs, and whatever the awards and outcomes of this season, I just hold my head high as a lifelong basketball fan and Nuggets diehard. Joker and the Nuggets are the epitome of beautiful, ethical basketball and I hope the fans enjoy it and history looks back at their era with amazement like I do. Jokic’s impact will always mean more than outlandish stats and accolades, regardless of how the powerful choose to wield their instruments of influence. There is NO other modern player that occupies basketball minds more than Joker! Whether you’re scheming against him (as a coach or media hand), studying his moves, or cursing him for embarrassing your DPOY candidate, THE JOKER is always there in people’s thoughts, the way MJ and Kobe were at one time, though in a different way and without the supportive hype of course. And every NBA player interviewed has said this, in one way or another and those that are reaching and eventually ascending him are doing it largely _because_ they studied and wanted to be better than him! Joker _is_ the standard! He does everything a skilled guard can do with the physical prowess of a Center and lumberjack. He is an enigma and the new prototype for dominance, but he has yet to be beaten or cede any ground! I suspect that the MVP hand-wringing will continue but the vote won’t happen until Joker shows some decline or fails in the postseason, so please remember these truths if/when the narrative is shifted and the MVP gifted to someone else.
