If I ever see Doug Walker in person, I want to pretend that I don't recognize him but I want to get within an earshot and start humming the 'Doug' theme song to see what he does.
Should've been a direct to video movie. Oh wait, it was SUPPOSED be a direct to video movie until Joe Roth decided to release it in theaters at the last minute. Yeah. Nice going there Joe.
Brendan Barney Joe Roth worked on the movie??? Wikipedia doesn't say anything, all it says that he worked for Disney in the 1990s among other studios _as an executive producer_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Roth
Disney had this spree of putting most of their planned DTV movies/sequels to theatre during the early 2000s (likely because they were lacking many big hits from their mainstream studio at the time), it was only when Jungle Book 2 bombed in box office that they decided to release them how they were supposed to be. It's just that a lot of them like The Tigger Movie and Return To Neverland did at least look worthy animation wise, while this is clearly a feature length episode of the TV series.
The only reason this was featured in theaters was because the Rugrats movie did so well. And you know Hollywood, “If this one thing worked for that movie, then it must work for all movies.”
In 1999, my dad once gave me the choice to see Doug's First Movie or to continue having fun at a friends' house. I chose the latter, now I have respect for myself.
You know how The Rugrats, Spongebob and other cartoons all got animation upgrades when they were made into movies? Notice something lacking here!? This is literally a TV movie brought to theaters. Say what you will about my other examples but they were given movie budgets and animation standards.
19:23 Seeing this close to death robot struggle so much to take a couple steps because it's worried about something it loves while they just run away isn't just cruel and sad but you know, a character feature that isn't 1 dimentional, this robot deserved more screen time #justicefordougrobo
Agreed. However what’s really ironic is that the theatrical movie we got was originally intended as a tv special, while the INTENDED theatrical movie(the jungle movie) made its way to tv instead.
Don't lose hope on that. Nickelodeon announced recently that it's bringing back "Hey Arnold! " for a TV movie called "Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie." And if it's a hit, then there's talk that Nickelodeon might try to revive a lot of it's old shows, even some of it's old live action ones too like Clarissa Explains it All and etc. In fact, there's even been speculation that they could do a continuation of "Doug" too if they're able to work something out with Disney.
Either way, it just cracks me up that basically shows he decided to never listen to the Disney's Doug opening theme from the TV show. Because it's the same one as the movie
One thing i never understood about this cartoon and the movie is why do most of the characters (expect doug and a few others) have tons of different but strange skin colours like green and purple? Why? Is it a stylistic choice like the simpsons?
Can you really blame him on this scene? Him saying that there's a monster caused by a Political Figure's mass pollution to someone RIGHT NEXT TO A GOOD FRIEND OF SAID POLITICAL FIGURE, and then trying to make that look like a fool by admittibg to having evidence of it is a Grade-A Dumbass move!
Also the writer used the word proof too many times. So the writer is doing a dumbass move by writing redundant dialogue. I mean the word proof is used 3 times (well technically 2 because guy said prove).
Doug was far too boring. Everytime the song appeared I had to rush to change the channel or turn off the TV or else it'd ruin my day and put me to sleep. I don't know how something so boring got popular.
Because enjoyed that slice of life cartoon. It has its sense of humor and story and there's charm in Doug and the crew. I do feel bad for Doug being mocked for being associated with the show (where I'm from, it's the total opposite) but the show has its audience and they really enjoy Doug Funnie.
@ai i The _Nickelodeon_ version of _Doug_ wasn't boring at all. It's the awful _Disney_ version that's boring. The first episode of the _Disney_ version *alone* is a complete clusterf***
I hope they make a CaptainUnderpants sequel I have an idea for it which could really work Professor Poopypants and Melvin create a photocopier that turns people into the characters George & Harold made in their comics creating real life equivalents Of Bionic Booger Boy, Wedgie Woman, Sir Stinks-a-lot, the Alien lunch ladies and Doctor Diaper And George, Harold And Captain Underpants have to stop them from getting the 3rd year anniversary comic book issue of Captain Underpants where they meet their evil counterparts
NOT T- T- T- TODAY, JUNIOR!!!! (Steals the flux capacitor) bye I'm going to go destroy reality now I'm off to kill Marty McFly's parents. HILL VALLEY 1955 HERE I COME!!!!!
A Bat Credit Card? [beat] They gave him a Bat Credit Card? [beat] They had the BALLS to give one of the greatest superheroes of all time a Bat... CREDIT CARD?!?! NO! NO!! DOES NOT COMPUTE!! DOES NOT COMPUTE!! DOES NOT COMPUTE! IT'S INSANE!! [The Critic begins to shout angry gibberish as he is restrained by an unidentified man wearing a blood-stained lab coat. The next screen says "20 Minutes Later..." before cutting back to a much calmer Critic] I apologize for that outrage. It was childish and immature. I just get a little peeved when I see one of my childhood icons carrying [inhales] A BAT CREDIT CARD???!! YOU BASTARDS!!!! I'LL KILL YOU!!! I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU!!! ALL OF YOU WILL DIE AND YOU'LL GET THE GAS!!! [The Critic is restrained by the doctor again, a new screen says "One Hour Later..." and we see him afterwords with a noticeably more disheveled appearance as he clears his throat, inhales and continues...] RAPE MY CHILDHOOD WILL YOU?!?!?! YOU'LL ALL DIE!!! YOU WILL ALL DIE!!! [One more time he is restrained, the next screen says "Seven Hours Later..." and he finally resumes the review with a sharp intake of breath] OK... I'm fine, I'm cool, I'm fine, I'm fine. So after Batman uses the... you know what...
I have the same problem with Hannah Montana. I feel your pain. It is 2017 and I still get people looking at my name tag and say "OH LIKE HANNAH MONTANA!" 2017!!! why can't it die?
When I was in Kindergarden some kid called me Alexander (whatever his middle name is spelled) Bell at the time I didn't know who he was so I took it as a insult (I don't know if that makes me an idiot or not)
@M.L. 'BEWMIE' Wolff God, I think bullies that pull one thing from fictional characters, and use it as a blanket form of bullying, are seriously lacking in any sort of originality. For instance, if Big Bang Theory were more popular, people at school would be calling me "Sheldon."
Huh. I would thought Nostalgia Critic would have really appreciated Doug, for being a simple slice of life show aimed at kids. it wasn't trying to be the most funny or the most impressive Nicktoon, it was just trying to tell genuine stories with genuine characters. Granted, Hey Arnold did this much better, but.
Doug is really biased on things like this, as he himself said (not a perfect quote): "Critics are also people, and they live through the exact same emotional traumas other people do"
i think it's funny how he mentions how forgettable the theme song is because the ABC version of the doug theme always kind of stuck with me for some reason. i honestly didn't even watch the show much, but i didn't have cable TV back in the day so the only version of doug i ever saw was the ABC version with that theme song.
A friend of a friend at college wrote a play about a girl who got raped, and he put in the line 'Is she okay?' He was a theater major and that was his senior project
I remember back at summer camp they used that movie to punish us once. Some kid wouldn't get in line outside the door (like we were supposed to) and started walking into the parking lot to test the councilors. So one said "okay, if Joey here doesn't get in line we're all watching the Doug movie instead of taking a vote." (Usually between three PG rated films.) The campers went from not caring to screaming at him to get on line. He didn't listen, and we ended up watching this movie.
I heard an interview with the creator Doug on the Nickelodeon animation podcast. He said that Doug's First Movie was supposed to be a TV movie but at the last minute Michael Eisner decided that it would make a good theatrical movie.
Ugh.....smooth move Michael......VERY BAD decision because if that movie was NOT in theatres it would NOT have lost so much money and THEN Jim Jinkins could have continued with the show and the fans could have seen Doug get with Patti!! Bad Michael!! BAD BAD BAD!!!
Boy, was that a stupid decision. Releasing a made-for-video film that is even more bland and unfunny than the already dull and unfunny TV show into cinemas, what could possibly go wrong?
"Fucky" town??? coming from Disney, I'm not surprised. maybe they imagined a party full of teenagers "fu**". Dirty Disney. now they're encouraging kids to be promiscuous very early
+329link He's already done three: Kickassia, Suburban Knights and To Boldly Flee. It's just him as the Nostalgia Critic and a bunch of other critics spoofing different genres of film.
+*329link* There technically was a Nostalgia Critic movie. 3 actually, but only one of them is... decent... The only somewhat decent one I'm referring to is called To Boldly Flee.
+Note Worthy yup it really was a rather boring cartoon u should see how bad it is now in the new seasons the animation is terrible and it became even duller
Canaan B OK. I can believe the boys getting excited for Valentine’s Day dance. I can’t believe the mayor not doing anything within her power to stop Mr Bluff. I can believe a bunch of high school students can make a shrinking ray and a robot crusher and not get any media attention for it. BUT!...
It's easy to understand why Doug Walker would have the hang-ups about Doug that he has, but why the Nostalgia Critic? Doug and the NC AREN'T the same person.
You're aware that 555 numbers aren't real phone numbers, right? That's why every single Hollywood movie/TV show has all their phone numbers starting with 555.
doug's last name is "funny"?!...I grew up with the spanish versión and his last name was "Narinas", what does "funny" has to do with "Narinas" anyway?! wtf!
Oh hey do you guys remember CatDog? lol I actually liked the lyrics in that theme song. They got it right. on the other hand I can't stand Dog's Voice..
close.. as well as Dog's Voice. The reason Dog's voice always drove me nuts was because he had a weird accent and a Lisp and was high pitched. his voice was terrible. I hate Spongebob's voice also. Heffer's voice comes the closest to dog's voice.
I think Doug is a pretty decent show. It's not my favorite NickToon but I'll watch it when it's on. Ren and Stimpy and Rugrats are my top 2 favorite early 90s NickToon shows!
Yeah. There are guys who are into dances (primarily to score girls), there are mayors who have the power to stop these kinds of shit but don't and we've seen scenarios where people do cool and underrated things but is ignored over something smaller and dumber. But trying to be convinced that a poorly disguised monster is considered cute is just bad writing and the only way it got in was that people weren't sober.
First two are easy enough to believe, abd I did hear a story about a 14 yesr old that built something resembling a nuclear reactor in his basement a while back.
Acually you are on time think about it you dont go to a concert after it starts and say you are early if you went to a concert before it started youd be early so even if a video is uploaded 1 second ago youd be on time not early
I think he just has a fixation with wanting characters in kiddie films to say the F-word. He repeated this gag years later in his Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas review, when the elves sing "elf and bells", Critic says they're saying "effin'."
