It has become a world where we buy and throw away and in terms of Alicia it's often repetitive items which says to me that they don't look after what they have. I get my niece and nephew an average sized egg or an egg with a cup or drink bottle in a theme they like. I don't think that you need to spend so much money all the time as I don't believe in buying someones love and time spent together is way more important and Alicia just doesn't give her kids that, it's impossible with that many kids. I'm very lucky that my niece and nephew don't get given things all the time so they appreciate every thing they get.

@@alexandralawson9578 I’m one to go bigger than some for Easter but Easter is always stuff I want to get to enjoy outdoors as a family so they get a new swimsuit, cover and sandals and then they get a big family gift so one year it was a trampoline, one year was a bounce house, one year was kids canoes for the lake etc To each their own but I personally don’t regret getting gifts for us to make memories together with as a family all spring and summer. I also do other things to make sure they are grateful and give back which is key no matter how much you spend for holidays and which ones.

For my daughters first Easter, we bought the nice pottery barn basket with the liner with her name on it. We’ve used it every year for her. I put it away and pull it back out when it’s time, same with her Christmas stocking, and advent calendar. We try to stay away from garbage- it’s just not worth it, as she gets older she will have nostalgic feelings about it. We also reuse the eggs, the paper grass, and the majority of the decor. When I was a kid, my grandparents filled eggs with change and dollar bills. At my cousins house this year, the kids did an egg hunt and they just had candy in them, we dyed eggs with them. It was a lot of fun.

I stopped it as well. All 3 of mine are teens and I had always told myself I wasn't going to stop until they are all out of school. My youngest is 15 and she actually asked me for a basket this year. I felt a little bad but the thought of spending so much money on a holiday meant for something bigger has always bothered me. I did end up buying 3 of the more expensive chocolate bunnies because I started to feel bad. So they did have something waiting for them when they woke up. I just read people were expected to spend 24 billion dollars on Easter crap this year vs going to church.
@whitleygail25
@whitleygail25 Год назад
@L My daughter is 9 and when she asked I just explained that this is not what the day is about at all. It's the day Jesus rose from the dead. No eggs or bunny's were involved. Jesus didn't have a basket waiting for him outside the tomb. All of this was literally made up and has been kept going by the companies that sell the stuff. I want to truly open her eyes now to the truth so hopefully she carries on the real reason for season into her adult life. And I have a 17 yr old that I did ALL THE HOLIDAYS for.... and today... he can't recall not even one.

I stopped as well. I felt really bad because this is the first holiday that came up I didn’t partake in or get anything for my kids. My 9 year old didn’t care too much and my three year old doesn’t even know what’s going on so he won’t miss anything as he gets older. It really made me feel like a grinch or something but by the end of the day my oldest had a bad attitude and I was like yah I’m glad I didn’t try too hard for this holiday 😂😂😂 these kids don’t even care and holidays just aren’t the same as they used to be. Companies just produce crap to produce it. So many pieces of toys and dumb little plastic gadgets that go to waste. I don’t want to be part of that consumption. It’s just mind blowing how much is constantly being made just for these holidays. It’s just a cash grab and money won’t fix the worlds problems. It won’t fix all the plastic in the oceans. It will only create more garbage for people to buy to waste.

Lots of people who have swimming pools in their backyards include a new bathing suit, goggles and pool toys in their Easter basket in preparation for summer. Crocs is a great idea too. Nothing on Alicia's video was over the top with the exception of the $.The most we ever hid in an Easter egg was $20. Even if I could afford to hide $100 bills, it seems excessive to me. I've also been reusing Easter baskets since my kids were young. Sure, they don't match but kids don't care about that. Not sure why Alicia wants them all to match all the time, maybe for aesthetics purposes. Hopefully she donates these or reuses them next year.

@@mariab7453 that makes sense. I have never owned a pool so I wouldn't know. I still have my basket from. When I was a kid and my kids still have there baskets too. I didn't think people actually bought new baskets each year. The more you know I guess.
@mariab7453
@mariab7453 Год назад
@@Kellydalebob Yes, I started watching Alicia over a year ago and remember how much time they spent in their pool. We no longer have a pool but we used to, so I totally get it. Plus all our relatives and friends have pools and we go to the beach most weekends in summer. There's also summer camps for the kids where they swim or have fun days with water inflatables plus family trips, water parks, boating, tubing, kayaking, whitewater rafting...anyway, there's just A LOT of water activities in summer and goggles get lost and bathing suits lose their elastic. As for Crocs, they have growing kids with growing feet. Like Alicia's kids, my kids also wear Crocs all year because they also play sports and are not allowed to walk on and off the field wearing their cleats. They change into Crocs or slides on their benches or by the sideline, before and after each game.

This is on my mind because my boyfriend and I are currently planning our wedding and of course that means also thinking about the future and traditions we want to start. I've been talking a lot about how books are the best gifts and one thing you can't possibly spoil kids with. I think when I have kids and Easter comes around it will be a little bit of chocolate, a few practical things that they need like hair accessories, toiletries etc. and a book! We had the same Easter baskets from birth through college; if we didn't get the basket back to mom in time, we didn't have a basket for the next year. And we never had to experience not getting an easter basket because we knew our mom was serious. 😄 (as older teens we knew she wouldn't let us miss out on an Easter basket, but as kids we knew she meant what she said and it wasn't worth the risk)

So i have mine and he prematurely owns his.😢 Its definitely something that adds to it, is your own basket, same every year❤

My girls are almost 21 & 15. They’ve had the same Easter basket 🧺 for years. I bought a personalized basket from Etsy that we could use again & again. This year I had my first/only grand baby (8 months) so I bought her one from Etsy, too. They are a little pricey but if you break it down to cost/use the money spent is minimal. My girls always loved seeing their same basket every year. It also sparked memories of Easter’s past which kept us talking/laughing all day. I’ve always done summer themed baskets for Easter. New bathing suit 👙, towel, goggles 🥽, sunscreen, sunglasses 😎, sandals 🩴, etc. Lush is so over the top & and wasteful!! I’m also one of those people that has Easter baskets for my 2 dogs, too. They also have their own separate egg 🥚 hunt which they absolutely LOVE ❤

I used to work with a woman who was very wealthy. She lived in an enormous home with her husband and daughter. The front lawn went on forever...her home was at the top of a hill. Her coworkers called it Tara.. She would have a big Easter party and invite over 100 people plus their kids. The first time I went I noticed there weren't any Easter goodies out. I thought that odd, especially with all of the kids. Then she explained she was having an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids. The kids were so excited. She'd had someone hide over 200 plastic eggs. When the time came she handed baskets to the kids and they went wild. After the eggs were collected they came back to the patio and began opening the eggs. They were empty. She said she didn't like her daughter to have alot of candy so instead of candy in the eggs there were 3 prizes awarded for those who'd collected the most eggs. Ofcourse she didn't mention this beforehand. You should have seen the look of disappointment on the kids and adult faces after egg after egg was opened with nothing in it. One of the parents yelled "the eggs are empty, don't bother opening them." The adults were fuming. Everyone left after that...what a mean trick to play on those kids. Boggles my mind to this day.

Point…..it’s an OBSERVATION. Her shopping habit is clear, clothes are bought for a holiday and family pics sit on a shelf not to be worn again (assuming yet most likely), collecting dust on a shelf.
