Great review! I have a Kanken and a Doughnut, and if people are on the fence, I'd recommend the Doughnut. I got one of the larger models from their "gamer" series (not a gamer, but the black-on-black aesthetic got me) and it addresses some of the cons from the smaller sizes without costing too much more. The Kankens are lovely to look at, but the way those things attract filth can't be overstated. It's like they absorb free-floating dirt particles from the air itself. I can't speak to the longevity of the Doughnuts because I've only had mine for a couple months, but I absolutely feel like I at least got what I paid for.
Hard pass on doughnut backpacks. Zipper pull came off after 2 months of use. Company wanted me to pay $17 for it. Talk about poor quality for a hefty priced bag. Never again! They make it so I can’t review it in their website. SMH
Oh my wife has one that's like light cream pink and has these beautiful pink ribbons on the handle. Really well-made bag and quality materials like genuine leather. And not too pricey too. Doughnut used to make these burly 1000D Cordura rucksack kind of backpacks too, I wish they started selling those again...
The one my wife has is the Macaroon Grace Series Hazy Backpack, which is made of 420 crinkle nylon twill according to the website, and they claim real leather.
@@Nomads.Nation it's probably reconstituted leather which companies are getting around to calling 'real leather.' they take leathers craps and combine it with plastic and form it into whatever shape and voila, 'real' leather.
The backpacks by Doughnut are definitely some of my favorite backpacks, be it just everyday or even outdoor activities. I'm an avid hiker and outdoors person and normally use the more heftier hiking packs (Vaude, Deuter, Tatonka... you name it). I don't remember how I exactly got into contact with the macaroon but I definitely remember doing my first Ultra Cycling Tour with it. Very compact and spacious at the same time and the material definitely didn't disappoint me during the bad weather I had to cycle through. During hikes it's as of now my go to backpack for casual day trips, fulfills all the basic needs without going overkill for a day trip.
Cute bags and at a price that isnt going to make your Partner look at you with that... "Really?" Kind of expression when they get the credit card bill...
I have one of the older Doughnut Macaroons before they changed the logo (I think I've maybe had it 5-6+ years now. I can't remember exactly, but I had it at least a year or two before the Rona) and mine is made of Cordura, though I guess they've changed that now. I still love it, but I don't use it that often anymore as I didn't find it to be very comfortable. And I was prone to putting too many things in the organizational pockets like my phone, purse, kindle etc. and not enough heavier items in the main compartment to balance it out, which weighed down the front of the bag. It kept bending bending the bag over so I had to put a plastic clipboard in the laptop pocket to keep the back of the bag straight. Though thats probably more my poor organization than the bag's fault xD
I just got one actually in the dark purple color! I'm female so I don't like the typical backpacks. This looks more dressier than the Kanken and more inside organisation options. Glad I got it after seeing this review 😊
I really want to get one of these, but the lack of give on the side pockets would be a real let down if I can’t put my kanken water bottle pockets on it. I do prefer to not carry my bottle in my bag bc it takes up too much room internally
Mines arrived today...already its annoying me by not standing up by itself...i have a smoothy a day and its not always airtight...have a feeling it could get messy in there :(((
I’ve had my black one for 2 years and it’s been used daily, it’s still going strong with only a few loose threads to show for it, time will tell, I got 6 years out of my Herschel backpack before the strap snapped.
I just saw a TikTok video of someone putting a 15.6” laptop in this size bag, but there is a slightly larger version that can comfortably fit a 15.6” laptop in it :))
Little small for me, but it looks cool. I'd probably lean day owl if I was looking at this style, simply cause I like a seperate laptop compartment. Its nice to be introduced to another brand like this, I wasn't even aware of them, but it seems they are large.
I've had one for 4 years and still in love. The fabric has held up so well. It's so much more comfortable than a kanken and kankens get really crusty because of the weird plastic fabric. The side pockets having no elastic is probably the only thing I'd change if I could. It does stand up ok if it has something in it. You can solve the dangle by just tying the excess dangle into a loose knot.. oh and that weird loose pocket inside is perfect for stashing tampons 😂
IMHO, Donut Macaroon is generally a woman's bag. Even though some models are claimed to be unisex; the shape, size, buttons and colors still have a feminine feel. Sorry, no offense, again this is just my personal opinion.
None taken - I don’t disagree when it comes many of their most popular bags (like this one). But their new Black series (like the Pathfinder) is quite masculine
@@irenejoly guys can rock it for sure! I still think that the bag is def more on the feminine side, but that all comes down to personal taste. I see many guys in Hong Kong rocking this bag 😎
