I remember seeing this for the first time in 2007. I keep this in mind every time I see a model. And I never feel so bad about my appearance anymore.

My teacher showed us this video for photoshop class, She said photoshop is to show off how beautiful the picture can be, and not change the picture at all because the picture was beautiful from the start. Thank you Miss. Rodriegiez for telling us this.

I can't believe that people DO that. Sure, it makes her prettier, but no human can possibly look like that, so it means people chasing beauty are practically chasing a rainbow. It's impossible to look that way.

I love that Dove is sponsoring this message! Many young women (and men) are striving to obtain this degree of perfection and sharing a message like this shows that it is just not realistic. The men and women we strive to model ourselves after do not even look like the people they portray themselves to be in advertisements. Great message!

Four years later this still makes a huge impact. Even though I've seen the ad a thousand times, 0:42 (the neck lengthening) makes me gasp aloud.

we watched this video in my computer class. I go to an all girls school, and this video really helped us to understand that we shouldn't try to make ourselves look like the people in magazines or on t.v. Thank you Dove :)

I don't know whether to like this for being so brilliantly done and conveying so much, or dislike it because this is most of the reason why society is so damn shallow.

This is really weird I don't know why, I just find it weird how you can make people look a completely different way by going onto a computer and re-aranging their face shape etc.

When I job-shadowed at a post-production company, I actually got to see this process being done. Believe me, it's more shocking in person.

Really sad, when you think about it. We live in a selfish culture that judges women by outer beauty when real beauty is love, humor, intelligence, responsibility, not artificial hotness. I'm a guy saying this.

True beauty begins on the inside and manifests itself on the outside where no makeup, whatsoever, is needed.

Love this! I am 50, and Dove soap (and more recently moisturizers) are the only things I have ever used on my skin. All 3 of my daughters now use it exclusively also.

I plan on studying photography during college, and I've actually started taking photos now. People criticize my way of thinking that Photoshopped photos are the worst kind of photos. Real beauty is not given by a computer, it already exists in everyone around the world.

I am really impressed with this video. The vision we see in magazines and on tv is not even real anymore, this video really helps us to remember that what we see isn't what we should define as beautiful, but normal and all people are beautiful.

One day when I look at a magazine.I want to see a non photoshopped person on the front cover as their natural self with stretch marks and pimples all the flaws that a human can have.This will send a message that you dont have to be all prettied up or be a certain weight to be or look beautiful.Embrace your flaws! The beauty industry's about selling an aspirational ideal - they create a standard and then make money off people trying to meet that expectation. Photoshopping models to create 'perfection' that doesn't exist just means they can make more money, because it's an impossible standard. People don't realise it though, so they try to meet it and judge others when they don't measure up. The whole industry's based around making people feel inadequate and then exploiting it

I love this video! Last semester in my Woman's Studies class our professor showed us this...beauty is so distorted by the media and it's not even true, natural beauty. No wonder young girls have such a hard time with self-esteem!

Hahaha... I went over the comments and irony is filled every where. Want to know what's fake? In today's movies, EVERY movies out in theater all around the world are, at least, remade 50% through CGI. Even schools' movies which involve only some house and school grounds. You think they really shot the movie in a school? Nah! They made the shot over a green sheet and made the background from a compute, removed all imperfection from the "look-like-18-years-old" actors who actually looks 30-40 even with their makeup. Even worse if it's fictional. The Avenger movies actually only have 22 minutes which involve real people. All other part are made with CGI through 90% of what you see on the screen. (That 10% remaining is, most of the time, their face which is still worked on digitally. Even their body is fake) Irony is that even this video "Dove Evolution" have been edited a lot in aim of manipulating the audience. The lightning of the original was weaker, so they changed the color range of the video to make things look clearer, they made sure that the "model" women isn't too ugly or too beautiful and that, initially, her "imperfection" seems present but still light. They made the choice of picking up a white blond which is a typical of the racial restrictiveness of the advertising. (The impact wouldn't have been the same with a model of another originality). Everything was made to be like a fake story based on reality... a sketch shown to the public. Those who watch are never in control. They are made to believe they are while they will never be. The day they will be in control, they will live in an area free of advertisement of any kind. If that day ever come, it will means that every currency will not exist anymore as nobody would need to sell any service or product to other for a living.

I'm going to keep watching this video until I start to love myself as I am. 40+ views now and I'm no longer wearing make-up. :)

I went to a post-production studio for job shadowing, and saw them do this. It was truly terrifying. I don't want to live in a world of fake beauty.

every picture in printmedia or internet, that is used to promote, is retouched. Mostly when you say "Wow she looks young for her age" you know it's retouched.

But they completely changed how she looked, that's not her! They changed EVERYTHING about her, the length of her neck, her eye size and everything, she might as well have been a completely different person.

When i saw this video...my little sister said: WOW SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL! but i said: she doesn'T exist beauty industry creates her... The beauty industry can hurt everyone

Wow!! No wonders we can as women can never feel we are ever as beautiful as what we see in magazines and everywhere. A lie told every single day, every photo you look at is tweaked in some way to look a in the minds of the creator 'better' The young lady in this video was beautiful before and after they applied her makeup/hair done there was no need to do a single touch up! So making one's neck looks better? Why?

I think she looks REALLY pretty without makeup. Super gorgeous WITH makeup. And plastic as hell after being photo-shopped. The final product was such a turn off.

Perfection is an illusion If you think you can become something, which by definition is unattainable, you will be miserable your whole life.

Through high school my two best friends were both tall, thin and beautiful; both have been offered at least a few modeling jobs. Im shorter and bigger than they are and no where near as pretty, my BMI is perfect and im definatly not overweight. But standing beside those two every day watching them get hit on and complimented constantly, I never once got that treatment. Guys think that thats the only beauty and I have to say it hurt, still hurts.

What's awful was that she was absolutely lovely before the photoshop... she reminded me of an Ancient Greek beauty, actually. Beauty should never be distorted like this.

A fun fact is that both Axe and Dove are owned by the same company (Unilever), so as much as the Dove evolution shows reality of media, they are hypocritical. Axe treats women like objects, Dove pretends to care about self-esteem. Yes, always be confident and strong, don't judge a book by it's cover, but do keep in mind, these companies don't care about us.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I honestly don't understand why girls get upset about this type of thing. And yes, I'm a girl. It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks about you. All that matters is what you think of yourself. If someone calls you ugly and you think you're pretty. You're pretty, your opinion counts the most. Don't call yourself ugly, because then guess what, you're ugly. Everyone on this earth is pretty. So don't call yourself ugly. BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT! :-D

This video was absolutely shocking I was kind of mad because they aren't showing her REAL beauty after somebody has done your makeup and your hair and doesnt like the way your face or body looks then nobody would really know who you are I always been called names at school but I juat yell out thank you I will pray for you because I know I am beautiful and there words do NOT bring me down at all and all girls are beautiful with the beauty they are born with be yourself♡♡♡

what's also crazy is that the best way to tell that a picture is photo-shopped is by measuring the width of you eye (inner-corner to outer) and seeing if it measures the same size as the middle of you eye to the outer-tip of your nostril. if you don't believe me, do it to yourself and you will see... every bodies face looks different but we are all geometrically the same. i learned this is my drawing class! SO to Professor Prince!
