Read below for the new way of accessing the MacOS Catalina Installer in the App Store. Hey guys, thank you for the support on this video! If you need anymore help, feel free to reach out via my social media (linked in the description)! I have been on hiatus for 2 months due to the work load in college. Luckily, I am now free and able to start posting! I will be posting the iPhone 12 Pro (Pacific Blue + Gold) + Accessories unboxing tomorrow. I’ll also be posting other leaks and rumors, so make sure to subscribe if you like the content and want more, thank you! Hey guys, since Apple released the official version of MacOS Big Sur, the App Store will not show MacOS Catalina, you will need this direct link: apps.apple.com/in/app/macos-catalina/id1466841314?mt=12 This will take you straight to the App Stores MacOS Catalina Installer. Hope this helped and thank you for the support!
Hello! I tried this method and my disk says “you may not install to this volume because the disk has a password” and i know the password to unlock it and there’s no other option.
Thank you so much for your help, Ashkap30! I have a mid-2015 Macbook Pro, & I made the mistake of upgrading to Big Sur. Immediately, everything was waaaaay slower & my battery started to drain like crazy. I was feeling annoyed and discouraged, then I found your video. I followed it step by step & everything worked great, as I was able to successfully downgrade to Catalina. I do have an important warning to mention, though. You see, I created my Time Machine backup on my external drive with the Big Sur OS. Then, when I was back to Catalina, I could not migrate the backup because my Mac could no longer recognize the Big Sur OS that I had used to backup my Time Machine. Fortunately; though, I just so happened to backup my files on icloud, just in case. That was a God-send because all of my files for work were there.
Thank you for this video! I installed Big Sur and instantly had my fan running at all times even when I have absolutely nothing open. Called Apple support, went to the Apple store... they told me someone would call me to help downgrade to Catalina but didn’t get a call.. so this really helped and saved me so much time! Thanks!
Yeah, I saw that . I was trying to put my sister Mac desktop to windows 10 but just kept failing and all I was like WHATS THE PROBLEMS??? Then I realize it was the version because I had no problems and looked some videos and looked through the comments that only Catalina worked.
I don't normally leave many comments, but I have to say this video was by far the best to explain easily how to downgrade my Mac. Bought a usb pen drive and a usb type c cable both for like £12, and with to this video I will no longer be frustrated with the problems I was having from BigSur. Thanks for making this video, was very helpful!!!
Dude you Rock! I had to go back to Catalina because my Dj serato hardware wasn’t compatible with Big Sur and I upgrade before I knew that. Thanks a lot
Thank you so much. You should consider teaching because this snappy step by step and clear method is so rarely found in teaching! You saved my research project because I can't run the app on Big Sur.
Thank you!!! Second all the comments here. This is best and easiest tutorial by far. You explained everything really well. Was able to downgrade without a hitch. Big Sur has been a punishment. Overheated my Mac and drained my battery. Apple support was ZERO help.
There were extra steps I had to take to get around security (took some searching on the support link in your description) but other than that everything else worked as explained. Thanks to you I can get the ONE not working app I need for class to work again!
You skipped the "erase hd" portion (meaning erase your main hd). Thats why Big Sur is still available. Go back and follow final disk utility step. YOU ARE WIPING YOUR CURRENT MAC WITH BIG SUR CLEAN SO BACK UP WHAT YOU NEED OR IT WILL BE LOST.
I just found you and thank God I did. Apple support was not very helpful although I must say that all the Customer Service reps were polite. No one had the time at Apple to walk me through it. You did though and now I have my computer back. Thank you so much.
I have Big Sur and I want to go back to Catalina which my Mac had when I bought it . I don't want to back up any data . Pressing shift+option+command+R can I do it with internet recovery ? But when it says choose a hard drive for Mac OS Catalina it shows nothing and I can't choose anything . Do have to erase first ?
When I upgraded to BigSur, it slowed down my system, fans would always hummm...and killed my battery. With your video, I was able to downgrade to Catalina, and it restored my speed, battery life and the fans have not come ON once all day! Thank you!
@@xxxnvssaxxx Yes. After the downgrade to Catalina I have my batter life back, my speed back and the fans do not come ON any more, slowing down the system. :)
It is because you have not given your Mac to allow bootable drive...it was same to you in the beginning but now I can sort it out; thank AshKap30 for your great tutorial.
Many thanks I also unchecked the auto update and auto install check boxes in settings so apple don't auto update me to big sur again at least not till all bugs sorted , thanks again you are a star
Hi mate, I followed your steps to erase the disk, unfortunately doesn't allow me to complete the action. Its say ERROR ERASING DISK ERROR NUMBER (-698888, 0) did happen you? thank you in advance
Yes I just did downgrade to Catalina. I have Imac 27 with 64 GB of ram late 2017, and my Imac is rather slow, thats not all, it cant find my printer on line I had to specified IP address of my printer and still no luck. On other hand my Mac Book Pro (Catalina Os) doesn't have any issue to find it and print Also other futures are hard to make work. I may wait for a fixes and then I will upgrade.Great video. Thank you.
I followed the instructions from the video and when I select macOS Catalina for booting, it tells me ‘Security settings do not allow this Mac to use an external startup disk’. Could you help me with this?
Re download Big Sur from the second option. Then once all set up go into system preferences or w.e to change it. Quick google search will figure that out. Then repeat the steps to get back to where you were
I delete everything to get big sur again? I can’t choose what o want to install I did everything like you but when I was on the part after deleting my normal device (Mac) I don’t get the option for install Catalina there is only big sur
I'm having a weird issue where the install mac os Catalina isn't copying to the drive. On the terminal it's saying erase disk successful but coping to disk stays on 0% for some time then says "IA app name cookie write failed" Any solution to this ? My drives are over 16 GB in space
I did all your instructions - step-by-step. But when it was time to choose the option at the end where after closing disk utility, I’ll have to click the 2nd option (install macOS catalina) it wasnt like that, it was still showing big sur. I turned my macbook off and turned it back on and now I’m stuck at the startup and macbook wont open anymore 😭 I’m just stuck with the error of a globe spinning logo.
When in recovery mode, can we just go straight to the 'Install Mac OS' option instead of first using Disk Utility to erase the start-up disk? Wouldn't that overwrite everything on the start-up disk and so you don't have to erase it beforehand?
The disk you erased said “Update” but the disk you installed on said Macintosh HD. I could only erase the Update. But on the install screen I see both options. Which one is it?
Jeez, why can Apple make it easy to upgrade without needing to format the disc, but demands it in order to downgrade? This whole process looks so hard for newcomers like me, considering what can go wrong during it. I installed Big Sur this morning on my 2015 mac pro, and the graphic performance is really poor. Even the dock is laggy.
I feel the pain, I was a newcomer a year ago, this process could be made a lot easier but Apple just wants to take the tough root. Now that MacOS Big Sur is actually out, Apple removed MacOS Catalina from the App Store. I’ll post an updated vid on this soon... thanks for the support though!
Thanks for the good vid, really helpful. Before I do this can I check that all software downloads and my music projects will not be erased? Thanks again
After rebooting to Recovery where you get the four options to proceed with the OS install, why did you choose "Disk Utility" instead of "Install macOS Catalina" which would seem to be easier and quicker?
I was wondering the same thing, but then when I actually tried it that way I couldn’t install Catalina because the disk was locked, so I guess that step is necessary after all.
Everything’s went well except the part with the „Option key“ I pressed the option immediately after restarting but It’ll get me back to Big Sur again! Why is that?
Alright, update: had to reinstall it on Macintosh HD. Seems to work okay now. But there is a “boot” folder in Macintosh HD that wasn’t there before. Not sure why.
Hey im having a problem, I am currently on the part where you install Catalina onto Macintosh HD, and the problem is that I don’t have enough space on my disk and I don’t know how to free up some space on my disk
Hello Ash, I am trying this but the Mac HD is grayed out, unless I boot in recovery mode. I don’t know how to proceed in recovery mode after I erase. Any suggestions is appreciated!
