It may sound silly, but do you know how to properly breathe with exercise? Many aging adults don't know how to properly breathe with exercise which can cause pain or cramping if not improperly. Many active agers are now starting to exercise for the first time and one common mistake is holding your breathe while exercising. It may seem as though it makes the exercise easier, but you are depriving your muscles of the oxygen it needs. Breathing helps to bring oxygen to the muscles so that the muscles can do it's job.
It is also important to ensure that you are breathing from your diaphragm. How to breathe with your diaphragm you ask? In this video I share a simple trick that you can do to help retrain your breathing. First you place one hand over your tummy, and your other hand over your chest. You want to inhale and allow your tummy to expand without your chest rising up first. The best position to start practicing this technique is laying down, then progress to sitting and then learning how to properly do this with movements.

This is really gonna help me I’ve been going harder recently and I tend to hold my breath I’m working towards a couple pull-ups so I can’t hold my breath for that long but I have now I have a little chest pain and air hunger from trying to breathe with my nose but hopefully I’ll feel better soon

I have always wanted to run. It's something that always look so enjoyable but I seriously can't run or jog more then 10 feet with out my lungs hurting so bad. I have been like this since I was in 7th grade. Sometimes even walking to school I would have to stop to catch my breath. I am not over weight, in fact I was called popotes (drinking straw) because I just way too skinny. I loved playing soccer but I couldn't do much because of this issue. I've always known it's because of the way I was breathing. I hope this can help me because I've love to be able to run and do some exercise with out a coughing fit.

I hope this can help me out some and I can learn to breath when exercising , I try to exercise because I know I need to and I am trying to lose weight because but I become winded extremely quickly (even a single flight of stairs at work will do it) and very easy and I know its not because what I am doing is strenuous because it happens with basic warm up or as I said a simple flight of stairs, I actually forget to breath and hold my breath and I am trying to correct it so I hope this helps me to remember to breath when in movement

i have the same problem here. but for months i thought i have some serious heart problem or alung disease or asthma and it gave me hell lot of anxiety. i get fatigued fast too. like when i went to gym, despite my kinda muscular physique, i couldnt keep up with other newcomers and 30 reps of push ups made me devastated. happy to know it can be corrected this easy :D

Because I see the last thing you do is exhaling lifting the dumbbells and then later you put the weights down without inhaling. That’s my question, your final breath should be an exhalation lifting the dumbbell up and then after that u just put the weights down without inhaling. What is the last thing you do when executing bicep curls? Breathing out while going up or breathing in while putting the weights down, but don’t you have to exhale when the weights are down for the final rep. My confusion is about what to do in the final repetition please. Thank you.

I used to incorporate my diaphragm into my daily life so well while I was a singer in a choir but then my ability to breathe from my belly diminished as I started working and was forced into a pretty sedentary lifestyle. I am trying to regain my ability to breathe from my belly and this video was so motivating to watch. Thanks!

When doing bicep curl, don’t u have to inhale before u lift? And then exhale when lifting and inhale when lowering? Because I don’t see how u can exhale without inhaling first

The only way I can start breathing in at first it’s if I start with the dumbbell up and that way I can lower inhaling and lifting exhaling

It will depend on the exact moves being performed. A good rule of thumb is to EXHALE on the hardest part of the move. Thanks for watching! :)
