All of Dr. John's appearances on Dave.
The bird network:
1. April 27, 1982. With Bonnie Raitt and Sippie Wallace: "Women Be Wise"
2. March 17, 1983: "Such a Night"
3. September 7, 1989: "Accentuate the Positive"
4. December 15, 1989: "Silent Night" with backup vocalists Tommy McConnell, Kate McGunnigle, and Darlene Love.
5. December 28, 1990. With Charles Brown: "Please Come Home for Christmas"
6. September 30, 1992: "Goodnight, Irene"
Late Show:
7. December 22, 1997. With G Love: "Stepping Stone"
8. December 1, 1999. With B. B. King: "Is You Or Is you Ain't My Baby"
Plus a bonus break music sampling of B.B. performing "The Thrill Is Gone." B. B. gets a chuckle out of guest-sit-in-guitartist Glen Campbell's licks.
9. November 28, 2000. With Christina Aguilera: "Merry Christmas Baby"
10. June 17, 2008. With the Lower 911: "Time for Change"
Note: Dr. John sat in with the World's Most Dangerous Band throughout the February 3, 1988, show, but he had no separate performance. Rather than put together the seconds-length bits from before and after each break, I omitted it here.

Dr. John is probably the most underrated musician in mainstream American music culture. A master piano player and arranger. Who else could turn Silent Night into a jazzy R&B arrangement. If the only records in my music library were Dr. John’s, then I would consider it a very complete collection of great songs and talent.

Man U miss Mac he was a GREAT MAN and we had something in common which was we both lost a Daughter and I met him down on Bleeker st on the L E S of Manhattan and he helped me so much during the grieving process of the loss of my Daughter and he always had wonderful words of wisdom that were so warm kind and Spiritual and I will never forget his Friendship and he has a place in my Heart! RIP MAC!

I had the honor of meeting and talking with Ms. Sippie Wallace quite a few years ago. Magnificent lady, one of the great experiences of my life. I was also privileged to meet and talk with Dr. John a few times, and I've never been the same again. Absolutely one of the hippest, deepest people I've ever met.

Someone missed a bet by never compiling a Dr. John dictionary -- the words, expressions, and aphorisms he created -- apparently spontaneous, out of thin air -- were an art form in themselves, and we'll hever hear their like again.

Dr John was the first musician of my first concert ever in 1972. He opened for Alice Cooper during the "Schools Out" tour. I remember him coming out in his full New Orleans voodoo regalia. Right place at the right time!

larry, any time you were fortunate enough to see Dr John was the right p;lace at the right time. I had at least 50 of those right times, with sippee, Bonnie, The meters and the nevilles. He was a class act and different than ANYONE else. He4 was the tripper that made MANY of my trips enjoyable ones. Hell I dont know what NOLA Jazzfest will be without him, except not as good.

Dr. John is a legend, not just for his music, but for the eternity of our human species. I forgot how much he liked to spice up Christmas, lol 😄. Ha!, I used to play guitar with G-Love & Jeff (special sauce). . It seems like a lifetime ago, or another planet altogether. Maybe I shouldn't have quit. I would've jammed with Dr John on David letterman, lol Jeff plays so great. (Drums) I miss him ... I guess Garrett still plays his music. I'm sure he does

Great post. He was the real deal. Put on a tight show at Tipatina's back in the 90s in spite of the fact that he didn't own nor could perform many of the songs he was known for. Does anyone know if he was ever able to buy them back? Many musicians have with go fund me.

Dr John soaked it all up like a sponge. I dont think The professer actually taught him, he just let him experience it and soaked it up. My life has been better for seeing them the many times I was lucky enough to do so. Jazzfest wont be the same, and it is the best venue and concert in the world as far as I am concerned.
